Secret Six.
Secret Six was fantastic. I picked it up with no expectationa at all - little to no familiarity with the characters or the creative team - and it quickly became one of my all time favourites.

My pick would be Ed Brubaker's run on Catwoman - the best writing of that character ever, and a million miles above the dire New 52 series.

Honorable mentions for Sunstone and V for Vendetta.
Honestly I picked it up with one expectation. Lesbians! I had no idea how awesome it would get, and everything about the series blew me away .
Scandals encounter with pistolera was super memorable, and helped show the secret six were more than mercenaries.

I just wish the last arc ended better.

Speaking of catwoman I really liked the gotham city sirens series.

The Maxx ... It's the first none Marvel Dc book I read. I laughed I cried and cringed in existential dread
I also loved the Maxx. The art style was interesting and the story was different than most.
I love all of his work, Four woman and Zero Girl are both recommended. I actually picked up the first Sandman collection because Keith drew the first few episodes.

The Walking Dead didn't become a TV show for nothing.

I'd also recommend Bone for middle school nostalgia and light/darkish childhood fantasy too

Just finished Lucifer - absolutely brilliant. Honestly preferred it to Sandman (Sandman started good, but lost me towards the end completely).

Runaways and Secret Six are up next.

Chalk me up for another Calvin and Hobbes fan. I read the shit out of the book collections as a kid.

A close second would be Bloom County, with its madcap absurdity and hyperactive anxiety. The only problem is many of the political jokes are dated now, what with it being a product of the Reagan years and all.
