my favorite game ending was fable (the lost chapters).
My hero standing alone in the chill of a land far from home scarred, frail and gray barely manageing to fill his armor. Standing over his great enemy slain for all time, he casts that darkness aside that had stolen a life of hapiness from him and he is empty. And the journey is done, my sense of completion is so much so i don't play on or reload a save file. Its so sobering to feel my hero had no joy only the pursuit of evil and vengance which amounted only to standing there in the snow a scarred husk of a man testament to a life of a singular devotion which is gone. I am purposeless a hero without a villain.
(of course this is tinged with nostalgia)

Final fantasy 9 and Red Dead Redemption for me. FF9 because the main character's development and growth throughout the storyline leading up to the events of the final battle make it bittersweet and RDR simply for the same reason, though it's more tragic :(

The ending to Prince of Persia The Two Thrones was really good. It tied up all lose ends and had a nice cut to the first game. The ending of Sands of Time was good too.

That being said. My favorite ending is still that of Baten Kaitos. So good...

I love how everyone always takes him seriously, no matter what he does. He makes Xu Zhu lool normal.
Not everyone, Xiahou Yuan is quite aware of Zhnag He's...uniqueness.

Mother 3. Im really suprised no one said that. It wraps everything up in a nice sweet bow and is really a bittersweet ending.

Bigger surprise: would have expected a mention of Planescape Torment with that avatar.

Atleast Planescape had a decent story and that's also one of the preciously few endings that doesn't just live happily ever after.

Heroes of might and Magic had a pretty nice end(the series located on the planet with Erathia,Enroth and Antagorich)with Gelu wielding the armagheddon sword fight Kilgor wielding the sword of frost, big clash the world is destroyed. And then the opening of Heroes 4 with people passing through portals on a new brave world(to name a very famous map). Nice ending and pretty nice beggining.

god there's just so many awesome ones...

I'll say final fantasy x gave me a tingle of sadness.

Kingdom Hearts 2 made me cry... beautiful music aswell. (Btw KH3 is shaping up to be the most epic end to a franchise ever :p)

Final Fantasy 8 ended... and I was like: 'Now what do I do with myself?!' I'd been playing it for so long, and I was so invested in the characters... It helped at the time that I knew they were making a sequel... Only it never came :(

There's tons of others... I love a good ending :p
Tetsuya nomura has said that he will continue with the franchise after KH3.

I'm with you, one of the few ending to make me want to cry, I also enjoyed both endings to Infamous 2

Forgot about KH, I liked those endings too, but has there even been an announcement for KH3?

Portal 2, Mafia, Dragon Age: Origins, The Sands of Time.

They wrap things up, they resolve character arcs, and they don't sequel bait. I'm tired of sequel bait endings where the writer tries to be clever and makes a terrible, unresolved, ambiguous ending.

You could probably count the number of decent game writers on one hand, so I wish the rest would just stick to telling stories well for now instead of getting ahead of themselves.

Yeah but he has also said it will be the end of the 'xehanort saga'. So Afterwards it will probably be some other kind of over-arching plot and maybe completely different characters.

Mario the lost levels on super mario all stars for the snes, why? because I finally finished it last night after almost 18 years of failing. Ok thats not quite true as the last time I seriously tried it was 5 years ago but still take that stupid level D-4, yup that one screen with a few lines of typed text was sure worth it.........nah it wasnt im lying to myself now.

Other than that lately as said Alice Madness Returns had a great ending but I still think my favourite ending is Valkyria Chronicles on PS3 both uplifting and saddening bit like the rest of the story but I thought they capped off the feel of the game perfectly with that ending but that Dynasty Warriors 5 ending comes damn close.

This is clearly the greatest ending ever...

Good grief is that supposed to be a guy?

Also, while we're on the topic. I also really enjoyed Halo: Combat Evolved's ending.

That final bit, racing through an exploding ship on a Warthog is iconic in itself, and lots of games have tried to copy the high octane feel of the ending because it worked so well (among other things they copied from the game). The game really ended on a high note and I enjoyed the ending level.
I loved Halo CE's ending, if just because it took me about 2 years to finish it so I was just so relieved and amazed to finally get to the end. I also liked the way it didn't have any Boss fights, and the Warthog run managed to be fun while keeping the suspense.

I absoutely loved Halo Reach's ending as well; the whole idea of the series coming to an end, finishing not with kickass triumph, but a hopeless last stand, and yet setting up the glimmer of hope with the beginning cinematic of Halo CE was pretty awesome.

What, a guy can't wear pink, have long hair and like to dance?

Zhang He is one of the funniest and most enjoyable characters in the Dynasty Warriors series, DW3, 4 and 5 were when he shined the most. The DW games just wouldn't be the same without him, plus I'd rather have a character like him than some bland, manly soldier who grunts a lot.
