I'd say Jade Empire is up there; not necessarily for the epilogue but the last few gameplay sequences which were pretty damn awesome.

I'll second whoever said ME1, which was topped off by an awesome song playing over the credits.

Bastion. I literally cried. I have no idea why, but the emotional impact, since I
took him with me
, was just amazing. I cried, then I got to the ending, and I did something I never thought I'd do.
I chose not to save the world

"I sure would like to see the look on their faces, when we dock this thing right on their doorstep." as well as pretty much everything Zia says. Simply beautiful.
Second that. Just finished it last night. It was awesome.

I made the same choices you did. That final gauntlet was beautifully done.

Bard's Tale

Option 1: Fight for the princess you've been trying to save this whole time. Boss Fight.

Option 2: Princess might be evil, don't save her. Boss Fight.

Option 3: Fuck it, I'm leaving. The world's gone to hell but I don't give a shit. No Boss Fight.

Best one's option 3 though the ending from option one is pretty good too...

I made the same choices, that game is amasing. It was hard controlling the guy and wiping my eyes at the same time...

IF they hadn't kept Kratos alive and kicking in GoW 1, I would say that's my favorite ending because it would have enough criteria to pass as a greek tragedy, which is awesome.
.
Or even it they'd left Kratos as the God of War and not made any stupid sequels.

The ending to Persona 3 very heartbreaking, a culmination of the games central theme, and the ending song is spot on.
I do believe you mean P3FES... Or maybe the original P3 ended differently than P3P. I dunno.
Though I raged at Aigis at the end of P3P. "WE JUST SAAAAAAVED THE WORLD" "YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAAAAAAAAAAVE THE WOOOOOOOORLD TO FIND A PURPOSE IN LIFE"

I was thinking, "THAT'S WHAT YOU JUST DID YOU STUPID FUCKING ROBOT WHORE."
Seriously. I hated Aigis and her complete lack of a personality.

Anyway.

Best ending to a franchise I've ever seen would be Ed, Edd, 'N Eddy. No, seriously.

Best ending to a game would be Gungrave. Oh, it was nothing special. Pretty basic plot, pretty basic ending. But there was one thing, just one thing so great about it, that it stands out in my mind even now.
Basically the plot is, "You were some mobster dude named Brandon Heat. Then your dick of a best friend shot you out of a window because you didn't like him being a dick. You are an eight foot tall zombie armed with armor piercing handguns and a coffin full of machine guns and rocket launchers. Burst into the douche's office and kill him."

So what happens is at the end of the game you fight the final boss (who could be qualified under the trope Giant Space Flea from Nowhere) and then you're in a cutscene! Do you know what YOU, the PLAYER, do in this cutscene? YOU have to push the fire button. You have to push the square button, one last time, and that's the end of it all. There are no prompts. It's just you, Grave, and Harry. Push the button, and you end everything.
And THAT'S how you make a video GAME ending. Make it interactive without fucking quick time events. Or at least do like No More Heroes 2 did where you could go make a sandwich mid-cutscene, then come back and push the damn button.

COD 4 had the best ending. after roughly a week i finished the game, and i loved the ending. i remember screaming "nooo!!!" when gaz and griggs died, and i thought price was dead too. but i avenged my buddy gaz by shooting ivan zakheav in the face. and then i was all "boom headshot" and then all i remember is kamarov rescueing us and price was still alive! ahh... great memories... i remember shooting terrorists with a machine gun... COD 4 was the best COD campaign wise, WAW is the second best, Black ops is worst when it comes to campaign... everything else.. not so much.

I have two:

1. Terranigma.
Re-create the world. Help fill it with life. Explore it. Then, save it. The whole 'one last day thing' still resonates with me.

2. Outcast.
Rapped up the plot, provided emotional closure, packed an emotion punch and still left room for a sequel, all without feeling cheap, rushed or resulting to the cheap 'cliffhanger' ending.
I'll continue to protest for the sequel this game deserves.

Portal 2's was the most fulfilling I've seen in a long time. Fairly emotional too, without so much as them even reaching for buttons to push.

I'll just ignore the people who say Red Dead Redemption. That game has so many pacing and writing issues that it just irks me when they view the ending as the second coming.

I really loved the ending to the Legacy Of Kain series. What happens to Moebius was particularly fitting.

I love Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core Ending, Portal 2 ending and Sims 2 PSP. That was my favorite.

Rose @ franchise best
That's cool. I keep forgetting spambots can post on topic (mostly). And I have to agree with Sims 2 PSP. That was an emotional time in my life, and I connected with that ending so well. Now I'll write a sentence about ham sandwiches and see if it somehow responds to that. Then this would be my favorite thread ever with ham sandwiches. One more time for good measure, ham sandwiches. Ham sandwiches.

Also, I broke the HTML on that link so you all can see it advertising nypizzeria.com.

One game, but released as two, so technically a series. Syberia 1+2. Solely worth every item I couldn't find on a screen or every time I was stuck with a puzzle (damn you radio, I still remember you!).
It was a great mix of sadness, satisfying and soothing feelings. Loved it.

For me its metal gear solid, I mean the end cutscene is 30 minutes long at it all has such purpose and meaning, It has me feeling so connected to every character and to all the events. And somehow they managed to make an ending that did such a great franchise justice.
I was going to say Max Payne 2 but then you come out of the gates with that...that was a great ending after all. I still think MP2 ended really well in that it was trying to keep everything tightly wrapped up so as to prevent new sequels but the Metal Gear ending was pretty damned epic.

god there's just so many awesome ones...

I'll say final fantasy x gave me a tingle of sadness.

Kingdom Hearts 2 made me cry... beautiful music aswell. (Btw KH3 is shaping up to be the most epic end to a franchise ever :p)

Final Fantasy 8 ended... and I was like: 'Now what do I do with myself?!' I'd been playing it for so long, and I was so invested in the characters... It helped at the time that I knew they were making a sequel... Only it never came :(
THEY WERE MAKING A SEQUEL TO VIII?!

All I could think about while watching that dog ending was this:

OT: I'm just going to go ahead and jump on the "Portal 2's ending was amazing bandwagon".
