Now here's my problem with this topic, even if you're 60 or 70 years old you still have on average a good 40 or 30 years left in "your lifetime," so even if we say "well, Crysis was the best game ever made," the statement is unfounded because your lifetime will extend far beyond any future you could possibly hope to predict.
This. I'm 25...I have a good 70+ years ahead of me (And hope to play video games till i physically can't...then I'll watch people play them)
We'll probably have direct cortical jacks in a few decades.
So saying WoW or Team Fortress 2 is the best of my lifetime would be a waste of typi...aw damnit.

So far... X-Com I guess. There is a reason it regularly tops those best games of all time lists.

Armored Core series hands down. Was a huge fan as a kid and still anticipating the next installment. The only good mecha fighting game there ever is. And hard as hell.

A tie between Thief 1 and Thief 2. A shooter turned on its head into a sneak fest.

Add the excellent fan made content and you've got enough gaming fun to keep you busy for the next ten years.

This is a tough one.

Nah, Counter-Strike: Source it is. For multi-player.

I'll throw Civilization V for single-player.

But I never think that a game can't be topped.

So far, probably Skies of Arcadia. Nothing, for me, has really managed to top the feeling of vastness it created yet - that and it contains Cupil.

The Pokémon series.

No other game has me buying the latest installments on release day every time.
Seconded
This, or Timesplitters 3, unless a fourth comes out sometime.

The Secret of Monkey Island. Because I was young and naive, and that game knew all the right things to say to me and left me a bitter cynic of today's industry.

It was either than one or Sam and Max: Hit The Road.

After that, the runner-ups would be Bioshock and Persona 4.
