<spoiler= The finest Shooter on the PS1, by miles> http://www.calshop.biz/gol_2005-2006/immagini/Psx/FICHE%20A/COVERS/Alien_Resurrection_Pal.jpg Sadly no one bothered to play it because it was a movie tie in. You can thank this game for the dual stick controls so beloved of Halo players, not to mention the motion tracker. At the time people criticised the control for being overly precise! Ten years later and it's the standard scheme.

Hugely atmospheric, the closest any game has ever come to the first two films. It's brilliant.

<spoiler= The game that invented the recharging shield method of health>http://www.calshop.biz/gol_2005-2006/immagini/Psx/FICHE%20S/COVERS/Silent_Bomber_Pal.jpg Another one that vanished without trace. The game was a laugh and had the earliest application of regenerating health (in a shooter) I can remember. It even made the 'vvrrrrruuuuummmmmmmm' noise Master Chief armour makes when it's recharging.

Although Grim Fandango and Psychonauts are better than both, these two irk me most because the ideas they introduced are credited to a franchise that doesn't have an ounce of innovation in it's entire series.

Mine is definetly Fallout 1, i hear the sales were bad when it came out and since i found fallout collection for £5 i guess that didnt sell too well either.
I picked it up because i heard my teacher and some students talking about Fallout 3, but im glad i played fallout 1 first.

Also i dont even know anyone that has properly played through FF1, although it probably sold loads back in its day. Probably a generational thing

There are a few games which always come up in threads like these, such as:
Chiefmon said:
Psyconauts
AmrasCalmacil said:
Grim Fandango

And, to add my own to the list: Shadow of the Colossus.

The trouble is, the argument is slightly flawed, particularly on this forum. Ok, I'll be the first to admit that the vast majority of gamers didn't play any of these games, which is a pity and a tragedy, especially in the case of Shadow of the Colossus. In my opinion, it's one of the best games ever made, and one of the things I love most about it is that there is nothing else out there which you can compare it to. It is that most rare thing in the modern gaming industry: a unique game. But I digress: while the majority of gamers may not have played these games, pretty much everyone on the Escapist loves them to death, so we probably need to find some more unsung treasures.

I still cannot believe shadow of the colossus is a prequel to ico.and that is the conundrum, any game that is unsung is gonna be mentioned and become known and played at one point. If its not, then it is not as good as one might think.just sayin.

My game would be the first Overlord. It was a great game, screw the marketing team with its lack of advertisement to the general public. I know that this game series has developed a fanbase and allowed for the installment of two more games, but still, that didn't come out until later.

It is nice that you never said video games, leaving you open to my KILLING BLOW!

I do something called tide dodging. See, you find a beach with a really rocky shore, and at high tide. Then you try and walk across the rocks from one end of the beach to another. If you touch the sand or the water, you have to start over. It's like Parkour for Lazy People. It's good exercise, as you have to move fast, and it's fun. Bring some music, because if people are on the beach the incessant movement of their vocal cavity may bring some dismay.

I'd have to go with Ogre Battle on the old SNES. Yeah, yeah, everyone here is about to go "I played that!" Seriously, the only other person I know who's actually played this great game is my brother and thats because I handed it to him and told him to try it. He still has the game too.

Toribash. One of the best fighting games ever. Rather than just button mashing, you need to be able to anticipate what your opponents will do, and combat that while trying to still win the match.
