I love the [REC] series of films. Well, the first two are really good, haven't seen the third yet, if you can handle subtitles or understand

There is! But like I said, haven't gotten around to seeing it yet. The second surprised me with it's quality, didn't see how they could make a good sequel after the first one, so I'm holding out some hope for it.

I can't believe I forgot that! Amazing film, and definitely horror, that's a must see for any cinema fan.

No 'The Wicker Man' (1973)? It's weird and a little slow in parts but that ending. It stays with you.

And if you can appreciate 80s horror then you should be able to appreciate 'The Innkeepers'.

Yeah, not a huge fan of the Wicker Man. Perhaps because it's an unexpected musical. I will say that the ending is good, I'm just not sure it was worth it. I'll have to check out "The Innkeepers"

Since you ask for obscure horror movies and seem to have a broad definition of "horror":

I've seen Cronos, and it's pretty good. I've heard of Ichi the Killer but I haven't gotten around to watching it yet. I'll have to check out Dance of the Vampires.

Not entirely sure it would count, but given some of the blatantly not-horror movies on that list I'll say Delicatessen.

Altered States is actually on the list. I've been meaning to watch Delicatessen and Andromeda Strain. It's funny how many people seem to have a large discrepancy over what is and what isn't horror. I've seen horror movie lists that include, Monster Squad, Pan's Labyrinth, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Donnie Darko, so I know my view certainly isn't the broadest.

I didn't see Inside, Dream Home, Martyrs and Grotesque on your list - not sure if you didn't know those or if you did not like them, but all of them go with a big warning - they are definitely harsh films. Though if that's what you're looking for, knock yourself out.

Weirdly, you included Predator, I am Alive and Freaks. I wouldn't call any of those horror films, but whatever: Irreversible. No horror film either, but goddamn.

More obscure stuff would be Subconscious Cruelty, Philosophy of a Knife (semi-documentary, if you know Men Behind the Sun you know what it's about, 4 1/2 hours!) or infamously, Begotten. I don't recommend these, just point out that they exist.

There is probably more stuff if you want to, but that is the stuff off the top of my head.

Edit: Oh yeah: I think The Thing (80s) and Alien are my favourite horror films.

I saw Inside, and it was okay. Great start, but it got a little silly towards the end. I'll have to check out some of the others you mentioned. I heard Martyrs is good.

Dead End (the only horror comedy I've seen that successfully blends pants-crapping terror with light-hearted comedy.
Penny Dreadful (not everyone likes this film, but I thought it was pretty scary)

It's on the list. The Japanese "Ju-on: The Grudge" is my favorite, but the original Ju-on and "The Buffy Grudge" is on there as well.

Well, to recommend something not so obvious and well known, I'd say Rec 1+2.

It's easy to be cynical about the shakycam gimmick, but it's well used, and both films have a great script and sense of tension.
