American McGee's Alice series.

The two games are years apart but in both cases its easy to get lost in the dark twisted interpretation of Wonderland.

Journey is both aesthetically and technically perfect in my eyes, barring the occasional frame-rate drop.

And props to the Uncharted series for pushing the PS3 to its limit, some truly spectacular vistas and set pieces to be seen along with some beautiful cinematography.

The bright lights and abundance of colours is just insanely pretty. This game needs more love not only for its aesthetics but because it's pretty damn fun too.

Killer 7 is probably the only game I've seen in person that is endlessly enjoyable to look at. The game is the perfect example of unified aesthetic design.

EDIT: its one of those kinds of games that has to be experienced in motion and simply cannot be defined by a simple screenshot.

Okami, Bastion and, in a very very weird way, Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Okami was just beautiful. Absolutely stunning with a (At the time) Unique Art Style. It caught my attentions due to it's gameplay and it's lovely aesthetics. It's probably the best looking game I've EVER played. '

I can't really say what makes me say Bastion, but it's just beautiful. It all meshes together so well.

Fallout 3 and NV are good looking games because they help to create the atmosphere of the post-apocalyptic world. I don't know exactly why I love their Visuals, But they are just beautiful for me.

Best in what sense? Graphics, art design or both? What about games that go out of their way to look bizarre or macabre? What about 16-bit games? The list goes on.

Sure, we can agree Journey is aesthetically pleasing, but what about a game like - say - Catherine? Very impressive animation, incredibly imaginative boss designs, and the in-game graphics aren't too shabby, either. It isn't aiming to be a pleasure to look at, but it has a unique look all the same.

I have to echo Witcher 2. That game really does just look stunning and is the first game in years to leave me just staring at my screen in wide-eyed visual awe, and I wasn't even running it close to what it would look like on its highest settings.

Screenshots really just don't do the game justice, watch in HD.

The character design in Witcher 2 is also spectacular, with characters wearing clothes that are both stylish and practical. Not the stupid shit you often see in jrpg or the boring crap you'll get just as often in wrpg.

I remember playing a clone of it, poor laptop.

OT: I don't see why some people deem the X360 of Metro 2033 ugly, it is only missing the DX11 features but otherwise I do think it's one of the best looking x360 games without being bloomrape. And Journey on the PS3, amazing game and also eye-candy with lot's of attention to detail.

Artistically:

The tech may be outdated, but they went overboard to make every single polygon count. I just love the style that it's done in, cartoonish in a dramatic way that combines the whimsical with the dark almost seemlessly.

Technically:

Ok maybe it's not the mostest fanciest bells-and-whistles engine, but I think they do the best at "Making best use of the engine". The lighting in particular is just brilliantly done, making the dark-lit corridors or harsh sunlight feel hostile and imposing. All the machinery details and the way things work is well thought out.

I really like how BlazBlue looks. I've always been a bigger fan of character design over general area design and a game like BB has a LOT of quality character design as well as the overall art style.

The stages are really well designed as well, with Makoto's stage being my favourite.

And of course Persona 4 but really, What DON'T I love about Persona 4?

Didn't we just have a thread like this like a week ago?
That's just what I was thinking.
And I'm going to put the same answers.

The new Devil May Cry has some really unique level design and aesthetics.

And I haven't played it but from what I've seen from footage and playing it's demo, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron looks to be the most beautiful game I'll ever play.

Now UNLIKE last time I actually have a new game to add to this list:
Bioshock Infinite

Well, Okami's been taken already. No need to beat that horse any harder.

In my opinion, Zelda: Wind Waker will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, never, ever look bad. Same with Skyward Sword (to a lesser extent because the low resolution seems more pronounced in that one).

I'll give another mention to Mirror's Edge, too. It fell flat on a lot of aspects, but the art direction was handled almost flawlessly.

Let's go for something less obvious.
Persona 4: Golden. It looks so colorful, vibrant and yet so simple.

No one has mentioned Wind Waker yet??

And don't forget about the HD re-release coming out soon:

Such a gorgeous game. You can keep your realism; it's all about the aesthetics.
