The almighty search bar has informed me that this topic hasn't graced the Forums in more than a month, so I'll give it a go ahead. Which game or game series has, as you believe, the best music or soundtrack. This, and I can't stress this enough, does not mean that you have to praise the entire game, or condemn the music because the game is bad. As for my opinion, I would say a tie between Medal of Honor (especially European Assault), and the Halo series. May all those who chose to post a comment please, if possible, add a video or description, or even lyrics to such post as evidence of the songs awesomeness.

I really don't know.

I enjoyed the radio in GTA IV (especially Radio Broker!) but the whole soundtrack to Red Dead Redemption is kick ass. It is equal or greater than Morricone himself!]

EDIT: Dammit woman what is wrong with yourself! I forgot about JNR and Liberty Rock Radio!

Also, my favorite song in the game:

Shepard's Shadow

edit:

N3 and Dragon Age have good music too.

edit 2:

My favorite from N3.

Ruling out the music games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, I'd say Assassin's Creed 2. This had really great music, and really added to the mood of the game.

Also, Prince of Persia 2008, while being an awful game overall, had some great music.

I've been namedropping FreeSpace for a while now, but I'll do it again. The FreeSpace series.

The first two Dooms had some good ambient tunes that sound better when filtered through older MIDI filters a la DOSBox.

I'm currently playing Chrono Trigger and some of the music actually made me introspective and depressed, which is hard to do. Of course, most of the themes were uplifting/battle tunes and whatnot, but they're good ones.

The Alpha Centauri games have some great musical moments. You've got the war drone of the Spartans, the industrial drones of the Hive and Morganites, the eerie drones of the University, and the peaceful organic chimes of the Peacekeepers and the Gaians. The Alien Crossfire theme would fit in with a post-apocalyptic world perfectly.

Oh, and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. The final boss theme made me feel like I was facing something beyond Satan or any evil deity.

A bunch of other games don't have great soundtracks, but have some very memorable ambient moments, like Mass Effect, Resident Evil IV, and Rayman 3.

I LOVE the music in Super Mario Galaxy 2, just because it is so upbeat.

Halo-series (for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_mHpkg-R5E), Deus Ex (for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1ei9o3m9Zg) and Metal Gear Solid-series (for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXkgn3QUA2w) get my votes.

Of course there are many others too, but those came to my mind first.

Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 1 and 2 and the Orange Box all had great soundtracks.

BioWare. Every soundtrack is great. If they made it easier to get them (I prefer a real disc to digital copies, call me old-fashioned) I would love them for life... great they already own 1/14th of my immortal soul and that is likely to increase if they keep putting out such good stuff.

Seriously this track makes may spine tingle with that kind of... you know the Indiana Jones music? That feeling of just wishing a Nazi was around so you could punch them in the face. Well that makes me want to just fire the galaxies biggest Mass Effect weapon into a Reaper.

Agreed, great games, great music. I thought the soundtracks were sold on discs? Or are they just MP3 downloads?

Well, I'll give you a bunch of hints. It's the theme song of a certain game.

It's a first-person game, but it'd be wrong to call it a 'shooter'...

There are a lot of primary colors involved in the art style...

It was a really weird and unusual venture for the studio...

You play as a woman, but not an oversexualized one...

The song's name rhymes with Pill a Dive.

If you guessed "Still Alive" from Portal, you'd be...!
Wrong.

Well finding a solid copy in Ireland is a nightmare for most things that aren't MTVable or otherwise noteworthy. Some niche places would probably have it but they wouldn't think twice about charging me double. Buying a copy online is something I can't do since I don't have posession of a card(ATM but not credit)... Just checked I don't think there are any actually disc copies of the ME2 soundtrack being made, looks like it is only digital.
