I was listening to some music today and thought about how song intros can draw us into songs.

For instance, I absolutely love
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhYT-7bzHis - Through Struggle by As I Lay Dying
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ov5SSVobm0 - Lost Reality by Mercenary (and freaking EPIC)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hqDGbtx8E4 - Head Down by The Showdown
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0x5TS4GxJs -Lay Down by Prestess

So, what's your favorite song intro?

Obviously a great song will have a great intro, but there are also many songs that, through not amazing overall, suck me in immediately with the introduction. Such as:
Concrete Jungle [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KHXT37wFoU] - Megaman 9 soundtrack
Cell Transforms [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-7jMo5pa8w] - Bruce Faulconer (Dragonball Z soundtrack)
The Final Countdown [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaN7RwckVIQ] - Europe
Corneria [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXc2vUQKWCQ] - Star Fox soundtrack ('Brawl remix cause it's better)

One- Metallica is pretty good, along with Enter Sandman, Ride the Lightning...... to shorten this up I'll just say practically every Metallica song has a great intro.

In gaming, I like S&K Doomsday Zone theme and the level 1 theme from Doom.

Actually, there are a couple. Best parts of the songs, in fact.

"<url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6oNE2lT8R4>Fly" by Blind Guardian
"<url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNDJAS3RzN4>The Fire Still Burns" by Dragonforce

No one's mentioned the intro to Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria?

The rest of the song, where he's singing, I can barely stand. But my god, that intro is amazing.

For those about to care, I'll contribute with a song or five.

Ayreon - Day Six: Childhood - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Cog5WOaamM
I just need the first... 'tones', if you can call them that, and I'll have goosebumps. The eerie/sad feeling they give you pretty much impersonate the mood of the entire rest of the song.

Billy Talent - Burn the Evidence - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C9mkolloeE
A repeated guitar riff, but nevertheless one that sucks you right into the song.

CunninLynguists - Don't Leave Me (When Winter Comes) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TfUfNaTQRo
A combination of the two previous songs - a repeated background loop, but nevertheless leaving it going for the first ~20 seconds or so sets the mood for the entire song.

Fort Minor - Kenji - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ckvmc_486U
The first bit of lyrics to this song are
Let me tell you the story in the form of a dream,
I don't know why I have to tell it but I know what it means,
Close your eyes, just picture the scene,
As I paint it for you

And I have to admit that's exactly what I did when I first heard this song. It struck me pretty hard back then.

Streetlight Manifesto - Riding the Fourth Wave - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHZtUJDdHoM
I don't suppose you can call it an intro as the whole song is basically one riff that's repeated by several instruments that constantly change a part of it or solo along/over it, but it's nevertheless a grand song.
