I am aware that several escapees are sports fans, and would like to know your favourite sporting moments in history, be they inspirational, funny or just incredible.

For me, even as a newcastle fan, the champions league 2005 final has to be one. It showcases what English football should strive to be. Fans that are entirely dedicated, players striving to do their badge proud, the atmosphere.

As a volleyball fan, and a libero, one of the most impressive displays of skill was Sergio Santos' setting for brazil, but in particular this-

Sergio stop being so nawty, that was pure filth

and finally, the crouch robot

I'm a Minnesota Vikings fan so our best sporting moments are nothing but pain and agony :(

I haven't been watching football for that long (2008 or so) and I feel like I could really get into hockey if the Minnesota Wild wasn't on cable and soccer if American TV ever decided that yes, soccer fans in America DO exist.

So the problem I have is that I don't know a lot of sport moments like that that I got to see Live and I feel for it to count, it would have to be live. There are three moments off the top of my head I can think of with two football and one soccer.

Odell Beckham Jr becomes a superstar

If you're a football fan, you've seen this catch and you will likely see it for as long as football exists. Just an absolute monster of a catch that shouldn't have been possible...

Brett Favre game winning touchdown against the 49ers
As a Vikings fan, it was this moment that made me think that we actually had a chance to make something of ourselves that year (and contrary to current times, the 49ers were pretty good that year). A killer running back, a brand new awesome rookie WR, and now a killer quarter back? LET'S GO!

Of course, that eventually ended in an "across the body" heartbreak but still...

Women's Soccer pulls off a mini miracle
It was a brutal game to watch. A game that we really should have won and I remember it being ESPECIALLY frustrating as the Brazil gal spent what felt like fifty minutes rolling around on the ground at the end like she was just shot before popping right up and mysteriously being perfectly fine once she got off the pitch. Even if the Women's team pissed away the opportunity they gave themselves in the next round, it was still absolutely epic to see.

A must for any 49er fan. Montana to Clark in the 1981 NFC championship, the hated Cowboys and starting the 49er dynasty that lasted until the mid-90's

Here's one I saw in person, from the Cal rooter section at Memorial Coliseum the five lateral play from the Cal Stanford game in 1982. It won the game and k John Elway from going to the Rose Bowl

This happened before I was born, but its from my favorite athlete, Willie Mays
The ball was hit 420 feet and kept the runner on second from scoring.

I'm a Giants fan so I'd be remiss to not mention the David Tyree catch.

The Giants just barely, barely made it into the playoffs. The other team, the New England Patriots, were undefeated. People were calling them the best football team in history and, frankly, that was not hyperbole.

Less than a minute in the game, the Giants need to storm down the field and get a touchdown - can't settle for a field goal (kicking the ball through the goalposts) because that would only give three points. I remember my mother could barely watch.
I root for whatever team is playing against the Patriots, since I hate Tom Brady and their first Super Bowl came at my Rams' expense.

I will never forget watching this live until the day I die. The feeling of watching a not-so-great team spoil the Pats' perfect season on the biggest stage in football still gives me a warm fuzzy feeling seven years later.

OT: The $6,000,000 Echo Slam. I don't even watch pro Dota and this got me pumped UP.

As a Liverpool fan there have many amazing sporting moments or near heart attacks as I prefer to call them. Put it this way, whenever we are in a cup final no matter who we play we never to it the easy way. For neutral it is amazing to watch, as a fan it can be intense.

A few notable examples

We do have a knack for classic games in general. Including a few the OP may appreciate :p

That's an easy one, at least as far as football is concerned.

The hand of god doesn't hold a candle to our German titan.

His explanation: I'm a goalkeeper. I thought I'm allowed to use my hands in the 18-yard box.

But my all time favourite is less a single moment and more an entire match.

It's always a delight to watch it.

That's not the Hand of God, that's "The Goal of the Century", which happened later during the same game.

Just four minutes after the Hand of God goal, however, came The Goal of the Century, so called because it is often claimed to be the greatest individual goal of all time. Midfielder Héctor Enrique passed the ball to Maradona inside his own half. Maradona then began his 60-yard, 10-second dash towards the English goal, passing four English outfield players - Peter Beardsley, Peter Reid, Terry Butcher (twice) and Terry Fenwick. Maradona finished the move with a feint that left goalkeeper Peter Shilton on his backside, before slotting the ball into the net to make the score 2-0 to Argentina.

I want you to know that I bear you no ill will, and I do apologize, but I do have to post this.

I'm an Atlanta Falcons fan (so also much pain and misery), so our lone really great bright spot was when we went to the Super Bowl in 1998, thanks to Gary Anderson, the Minnesota Vikings kicker who hadn't missed a single FG or PAT all year, missing a fairly easy kick. I can only describe it as a miracle (for us):

Jerome Simpson's utterly bat-shit insane flip over the defender and then landing on his feet. Good God the athleticism on this guy is just bonkers.

There's probably a dozen Julio Jones catches I could put, but I love this one because of just how fast the pass was when he caught it:

For sports, the most amazing thing I have seen will probably always be Fedor being freaking Zangief suplexed, but surviving and eventually going on to win by kimura submission.
It feels like it is straight out of a videogame.

And since I am a hockey guy, any Datsyukian deke.

And I suppose lots of good hitters like Scott Stevens, Rob Blake, Tim Thomas...etc.

For e-sports, anything involving Kuroda and Third Strike. The dude is so freaking good at the game. He has some really good fights as Q, as well as this crazy showcase against a good ken player.

I don't have any classic 'true' sports moments to link but I do have this:

For those unfamiliar to the game, each of the attack hits made by Chun-Li here had to be manually blocked one by one and if even one of those hits resulted in damage Ken would have been KO'd that round.

Maidana beating the snot out of Broner would be a great recent memory example.

Showed his opponent no respect, and then paid for it.

I could probably go ham with Kobe clips, but I'll just do 2.

So damn smooth.

And one from the other end of the spectrum.

Take your pick from this, the guy is unbelievable.
