Ratchet & Clank series (minus the first...)

Okami

Jak series

Okami
!!!

The first was the best!!
Too much plaforming, no having the vastly improved controls of the sequels, no leveling system, no funny arenas, more minigames. Yeah, it was the best alright. [/sarcasm]

The sequels just had better aiming controls, better metagame (things to do after beating it), upgrades and levels for guns and Ratchet, customization, less minigames (although still enough), armor, arenas, arenas, and arenas.

Silent Hill 2 has a secret co-op mode. To unlock it, you start the game in the dark with no contct to the outside world, then when you get scared you give the controller to the other person.

Definitely get the Ratchet and Clank games up to Gladiator if you haven't already. (Which would be, 1, 2, ,3 then Gladiator) the rest are on PS3. Seriously, if you haven't played them, at least give them a try.

Also I don't think you need to be told about Metal Gear Solid. Do you? Please say you don't.

A little off the beaten trail, some Onimusha wouldn't go amiss, WipEout Fusion is still good fun, Okami has probably been mentioned but go with it. What else can I say? Take £40 down to any local Game / Gamestation (Or Gamestop if your an American, also that'd be $90) and you can come home with bags full of good time that will last longer than any fine young lady/man of pleasure.

Also the Ratchet and Clank games have different names if you come from the land of pretend money. So up to, Deadlocked rather than Gladiator.

If you're looking for something really weird (and very Japanese), pick up Robotic Alchemic Drive. The story's bland and bizarre, the voice acting is atrocious beyond belief, and the levels are repetitive, but it's the best giant robot game I've ever seen. You don't play as the robot- you play as the kid on the ground (or on a roof, or on the robot's head) with a remote control. It actually makes the robots feel huge and menacing, rather than like men in robot suits fighting in a tiny city.

Yeah, I'm with most here:
The "God of War"s
"Jak and Daxter"s excluding "Jak X"
"Ratchet and Clank"s excluding "Ratchet: Deadlocked"
"God Hand"
"Okami"
"Viewtiful Joe"
"Killer7"
The "Metal Gear Solid"s
The "Silent Hill"s
The "Yakuza"s
Those are great for single player, for multiplayer, co-op or otherwise:
"Killzone"
"War of the Monsters"
"Timesplitters 2" and "TS: Future Perfect"
"Tony Hawk's Pro-Skater" either 3 or 4
"Metal Slug Anthology"
and a fuck ton of 2-D fighters such as "Street Fight Alpha Collection", "Street Fighter Anniversary Collection", "Samurai Showdown Anthology", "Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus" and many more!

PS2 is a treasure-trove.

God Hand is a single player game but pure awesome.

Edit; The last 30 seconds just shows Gene the main character getting beating up alot, which is pretty much what happens in the game first time you start playing, this game doesn't hold your hand.

THIS!!! THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH GOD THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most awesome game for the PS2 of all time! WITH THE POWER OF MY GOD HAND!!!!! The game is so hilarious and just pure fun that it deserves to have a spot on the top 10 all time best PS2 games EVER! But sadly it is a very rare game.. Good luck ever finding it.. The last copy i saw of it sold for 80$.. I own a copy myself but i spent 50$ for it and that was just a year ago! THIS GAME IS THE BEST PS2 TITLE EVER!!! + has some of the best music of all time!

So many great games for that console. I've yet to play many of them, but some I have and remember right now:

Shadow of the Colossus
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 3
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories
Zone of the Enders [sub](okay, not that great, but worth playing for the sequel)[/sub]
Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner
Silent Hill 2
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X [sub](it's kinda like campy, but in gameplay[/sub]
Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Psychonauts
Dragon Quest VIII
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy XII [sub](I usually give bad rap for both these FFs, but they are still worth playing if you into RPGs at all... No way in hell I'm listing X-2 though)[/sub]

I haven't played Ico, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Prince of Persia, Killer7 and Splinter Cell for example, but I've understood they are pretty good too.

Noone mentions The Warriors? Shame on you people!

The Warriors work for both single player and co-op, it's a fantastic mission-based brawler. If you've ever seen the movie (with the same name) you'll get the basic idea of what this game is about.

Twisted Metal: Black works in co-op, but truly shines in singleplayer with it's fantastic story (if you live in the states that is, the euro version got mugged).

Maybe a Smackdown! game? It got multiplayer and is fun even if you just want to play around. Here Comes The Pain was probably the best one.

If you like combat flight sims, you can't go wrong with Ace Combat 4, 5 and Zero.
