It deppends on what you're after, yes Mass Effect 2 is more streamlined compared to the first game but since your on PS3 and can't play the first then it shouldn't be that noticable to you. But if you really don't like the idea of it being streamlined you should go for Dragon Age, otherwise go for Mass Effect, as good as Dragon Age is Mass Effect 2 is better.
fixed.
you should go for Mass Effect 2 if you want high quality dependable action and storytelling
you should get DA:O only if you have a brain like a supercomputer and play tapletop role playing games like there's no tomorrow

Dragon Age.

The sequel is coming out in a bit, and you'll have plenty of time to grab ME2 before ME3 drops this Fall.

Depends on what are you looking for. Personally, I enjoyed ME2 much, much more.
ME2 is Bioware's best cinematic RPG-ish game.
BG2: SoA is Bioware's best hardcore cRPG.
DA:O tries to do both... and it's average at both.

Dragon Age Origins. Mass Effect was superior to DA:O but ME 2 is just a FPS basically. The NPCs are there and some are cool but in DA:O are much more defined and have way more lines.

I didn't play them on PS3 (I'm mostly a PC gamer) so I can only express it from that point of view but I really couldn't call ME2 an RPG (which is what you wanted). (I may be lynched for this opinion however)
DAO however was a pure rpg, much bettter for replay value.
Wait what? You can say a lot about Dragon Age but the replay value is almost zero. Who the hell wants to go through the Deep Roads more than once?
There were sections I hated in the game, the deep roads andthe fade. But it was fun playing a DW rogue, archer, warrior and mage. Unlike ME2 where it was always duck behind cover and shoot. ME2 gameplay wise was a gears clone, and lets face it aside from paragon/renegade there is no reason to playthrough it again, unless you like doing the exact same thing again and again.
i will agree to this, the gameplay needs to vary a bit more i think, especially depending on what class you pick, so between that and having maybe a few more choices here and there depending on your class/moral choices, the game could have been better for re playability.
Moral choices dont matter in ME. Mainly ecause the devs decided to make everything black and white. Or Red and blue. And add they neverpunish paragons. And the punishment for renegade in 2 was looking like the terminator, and thats just the start. Thats another great thing about DAO they grey choices. look at horrowmont and Behlen for example.
yeah somewhat, but i dont think thats necessarily a horrible thing. (talking about your first sentence) they should have punished paragons a few times at least, like for being too noble the bad guy would get away or you wouldn't get the best gun or something.

ehh you can call that a gray choice, but i personally will always side with horrowmont every time. behlen can lick my human noble nuts.

Judging by the ME2 demo, Dragon age. Best RPG i've ever played (although DA2 looks set to blow it out of the water if it gets the companions and immersion right.

My favorite game (both BioWare and overall) is Mass Effect 2. People might say it's not an RPG, and I don't really care what genre any game is in as long as I like it.

I like all their games that I've played. The one's I haven't played are their contributions to Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate.

Knights of the Old Republic and Dragon Age Origins are similar in gameplay. Out of those two, I prefer Knights of the Old Republic. I like Dragon Age a lot, but it has some sections I truly hate (The Fade subquest of Broken circle and the first half of the Deep Roads). The Deep Roads has a boss I find truly revolting to look at. Ack, I don't even want to think about "her".

The best one?

Um...I say mass effect, it's DLC is amazing. Dragon age Origins is good (DAMN good) But it's have some flaws mostly with the PC (Player character)

He have very little emotion and sit there slack most of the time
Combat is easy as hell even on Nightmare mode.
Mostly, Mages are overpower damn it, which sort of make sense, since Mages in-game caused the first darkspawn.

You haven't played Bring Down the Sky?

Also, people are totally wrong when they say that Paragon and Renegade are Good and Evil, respectively. It's more like Fair and Merciful or Dirty Harry.

Get ME2. DA:O on the console is kinda' shit.
Not really. Maybe it isn't to your liking, but I've played the 360 and pc version and prefer the former.

FPS stands for first-person shooter.

OT: Depends on what you're looking for.

Mass Effect 2 is an RPG (haters gonna hate - no, the combat isn't based on stats, but it's also a hell of a lot better, no there isn't much of an inventory, but that was total shit), just not in the old-school sense of the word, but it's much more about snowballing consequences, so you should play the first game too.

Dragon Age: Origins is more punishing and tactical in combat (and I wouldn't recommend it on a console), and can drag a little at the start, but it's just as engrossing as Mass Effect 2 and there's massive variation in your final save.

If I had to choose, I'd go with Mass Effect, but it really is a tough call. You know what, the genre doesn't even matter for Mass Effect - it is what it is and BioWare took it in the best direction for the series in the second one.

Mass Effect, by far.

DA:O, at least on the 360, was terrible. I got 40 minutes into it and immediately returned it to Gamestop, and I'm a Bioware fan.

I don't know if it was just the port, but definitely avoid it. Mass Effect 2 is the far superior option.

Depends on whether you like trad RPG with voluminous inventories, skill trees and turn based combat. If yes, then Dragon Age is the better of the two. If no, then Mass Effect.

If you're indifferent (as I am), it's a toss up. Both have fairly good stories, but also a lot of talking head sections which are mostly exposition (to be fair, ME2 tries to soften the blow by use of cinematics). And for some reason, Bioware seems intent on shoving one incredibly flawed section into otherwise great games: Deep Roads tedium, Mako instability, and the ever popular Planet Scanning of ME2 (aka the metal detector simulator).

I'd disagree with the phrase "dumbed down" wrt ME2. All the games have a decent enough story, for a videogame at least. If the term RPG hadn't come to mean specific types of game mechanics, it would be a great example of an RPG. But again, if you're looking for things like being able to outfit each character in loving detail, DA:O it is for you (and to a lesser extent, ME1)

They're both great games, and that's really hard to argue outside of personal tastes.

For the sake of it though, I'll recommend Mass Effect 2 because you're playing it on PS3. I really wouldn't be able to stand playing Dragon Age on a console, as it's a throwback to the lineage of traditional-hit RPGs like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. They're meant for the PC.

Mass Effect 2 is kind of "dumbed down". I was pretty miffed when I first realized there was no more items to be dropped, and a streamlined inventory/skill system. That's okay though, the game is still an RPG through-and-through, and it's a rich experience for sure.

Especially considering that it's in third person.
TPS then, my apologies.

I only meant that I don't really consider it an RPG. Not due to gameplay (which I liked, honestly) but due to NPCs and the way Shepard was presented (there were choices of conversation that gave the same response and whatever you said only (or mostly) mattered for paragon or renegade). It was mostly Role-Watching than Role-Playing and I felt as if I was only driving him around instead of melding with the character.

I know people liked it (hence me saying that I will probably be lynched) and I can understand why. It just wasn't what I would call RPG.

While I prefer ME2 by far, perhaps you should take DA:O since ME is a direct sequel to it's predecessor. But then again if you don't care about the story go ahead... In any case I played them both on PC so if there's anything to be wary about on console versions, I can't tell you about it.
