Multiple Emmy Awards, the villain is voiced by Mako Iwamatsu (aka General Iroh of Avatar: The Last Airbender) what more do you need?

Those are good clips but... I think you're forgetting the best:

Ohh, that was a good episode.

I tried to find the Winter part of 'The Four Seasons of Death' episode but it isn't on youtube and the 300/Spartan clips all had music overlayed on the top.

I did find the entire 'Tale of X9' episode on there, so it wasn't a total loss.

Ah, great list/lists(s)

I know many , but not all of those shows (and like a lot of them) So i feel myself validated.

There should be some qualifacations though.
Some shows are greater than others... and for different reasons.

For example:

Venture Bros. is great because of flawless marrying child-like adventure, nostalgia, cynicism and mature storytelling and making it FUN.
Duckman was great for making you laugh like a madman AND making you cry manly tears in the same episodes and being overall just GREAT.
Batman: TAS was great for doing style, atmosphere and storytelling RIGHT, pushing the medium forward.

Also i would like to add something to the list. Of course having trouble with nostalgia and the "kids like everything"-problem. Which was really great? I was rewatching a few series, but had not enough time to watch it all.

But yeah - i would like a second opinion:

Ulysses 31 into the list. For retelling/expanding stories uniquely, for being grand and weird but fresh. (And man, i still remember that scene where Ulysses was in Chronos' realm, climbing the clocktower and then had to push back time with his hands to save the children, while being hunted by robots. Awesome)

Galaxy Rangers - They at least TRIED breaking out of the 80ies children cartoon formulas: You had loss (The Family of Zack), dreaded enemies, people dying (if i remember correctly). An overall moving plot. All while still having the "Adventure on this planet of the day"

P.S. Agree with Gargoyles. For having GREAT Villains and great villain-backstories.

i would say american dad deserves a place up there. unlike family guy, it's been pretty consistent throughout its run.

south park is still hilarious for the most part. there are some episodes which really aren't that great, but there's so many there's usually something for most people. also, the fact that the thing is still going is pretty impressive.

drawn together was a really good show. picks up some classic stereotypes and puts them in a big brother situation, what's not to love.

metalocalypse, because it features the best band in the world. if nothing else, the fact that nearly every season has had an accompanying album with at least 20 tracks each on them is good enough, but the amount of work brendon small puts into it is really something. writes the songs, writes the scripts, does a big chunk of the voice work, and then even goes on tour with a fictional band... great stuff

Family Guy? Or will I be crucified for even mentioning it in this thread?

Okay, how about Dora the Explorer, that's pretty good.
family guy has had its moments, but its gone hugely downhill for me. i think of it as a bell curve personally, but the fact that it's still going down is why i wouldn't put it on the list. a quarter of an episode should not be a country song, or two old guys slowly fighting... that's not entertaining at all

I find your lack of Transformers disturbing...
If not the original cartoon (which to be fair, suffers badly from 80's writing) then atleast either Beast Wars, Transformers: Animated or Transformers: Prime!

If we're just talking about North American/Western cartoons, how about Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes from Disney XD? The cast of heroes was made up of Iron Man, Captain America, Ant-Man/Goliath, Wasp, Thor, Black Panther, The Incredible Hulk, Hawkeye and, there were a ton of cameos/ special appearances of characters like Nova, Spider-Man, Luke Cage & Iron Fist ect. The show had (I think) 3 seasons and played out a variety of stories from Secret Wars, Secret Invasion and, I think they touched on the Civil War a bit (it's been a while since I watched this but I think it's still on Netflix).

other cartoons that I would mention without going too geek would be things like;

Angry Beavers (Nickelodeon, 90's)
Beast Wars (the 90's Transformers remake thing...cartoon network I think)
Dark Wing Duck (Disney, 90's)
Gargoyles (Disney, 90's)
Goof Troop (Disney, 90's)
Looney Tunes (shorts from...I have no idea, 40's through 50's?)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (original series and, current run. I haven't watched any of the early 2000's but it seemed cool)
Tom & Jerry (shorts from...once again, no idea, 40's through 50's)

Jackie Chan Adventures.

Well I liked it anyway! Although maybe not some of the later bits of season 2.

I liked it mostly because I watched it when I was a lot younger, it's themes of the Chinese Zodiac magic and Kung Fu was something I hadn't really seen before and so it appealed very nicely. There were also some genuinely funny scenes that made me laugh and still do.

As mentioned above, the 2nd season goes off the rails a little and becomes a bit more focused on Jackie's niece, Jade, and isn't quite as solid but is still worth watching in my opinion.

That list definitely needs some Beast Wars and Reboot.
I'm still mad that Reboot never got finished.
There was another 3D animation one I really liked too. I think it was called Shadow Raiders or something. It was about a giant planet that could eat other planets or something.

Dragon Zero

No one of note

Courage the Cowardly Dog - surreal and creepy while also getting genuine laughs as well. Plus it has some really awesome music in it.
Ed, Edd, n Eddy - good humor and just plain fun

I have returned, also I've been getting PM's and questions within the thread itself regarding shows that were aimed at Adults (South Park, etc), since I'm unsure what to do here I will simply make a sub-section specifically for that).

How can there be a definitive list of cartoons without someone mentioning Looney Tunes?
Seriously, guys. That is the grandpa of most of those shows, and better than 90% on that list.
You're gonna need to mention specific shows (because I'm being a douche), also I'm going to say that they should only be ongoing series and not just shorts (It matters not that he killed the wabbit, KILLED THE WAAABIT!)

Not the best of my favourites, I just always wanted an excuse to use that montage. Glad to see Gargoyles is on here too.
Other such favourites not yet mentioned:

Earthworm Jim
The Tick
Cyber Six
Talespin
Shadow Raiders

Finally, the most obscure of them:

Ooh... this is such a nostalgic thread!!

For older shows, I'd like to nominate Extreme Ghostbusters. I mention it because of The Real Ghostbusters which is on the list. Extreme was basically a new generation of people fighting ghosts. Really diverse. A black dude, a hispanic dude, a girl and a white guy in a wheelchair. All mentored by Egan! Good times.

For more current... Huntik because that's just the shit. The animation, the storyline, the voice actors.

Most everything else I could bring up is already on the list.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - C'mon, do I REALLY have to explain this one?
Yes, yes you do.
That fight was completely bad ass! Now I'm going to pick up samurai jack on DVD/Blu-ray, because I never got to see the entire series.

Since a GOOD CHUNK of shows on that list I would have said beforehand, I'll just say a show that hasn't been put on the list already (as of typing this): Dan Vs

This cartoon stars Dan, as he has a tendency to hate irrational things sometimes to the point of wanting to get "revenge" on them in some way, shape, or form. He used "forces" his friend, Chris, into helping him with these "revenge" schemes while Chris's wife, Elise, not only reject's Dan's way of thinking, let alone her husband tagging along with Dan, is a secret government agent than Dan kinda knows, but just doesn't care enough to "care" in the slightest...

The comedy is very dark for a show that the family would watch (given how the show came to be), with both "jokes" and social commentary that a kid would chuckle at and an adult would laugh at, especially when you learn more about Dan's philosophies on life while it clashes with rational Chris's stand on reality...

It was shortly lived, but the series was well worth the watch for a comedy that could have been on Adult Swim, but instead ended up on the Hub...

Here's one you might not be familiar with:
Downtown (1999?2000)

An animated series by MTV about a guy named Alex as he moves to his new apartment in New York. It's primarily a comedy about him (the geek trying to grow up and get the girl), his younger sister (the popular teen party girl) and their friends going about their lives. It focuses on subcultures (which are somewhat exaggerated and might be offensive to some, but that's comedy to you) and urban myths, which are brought in what I would call a unique art style. All in all I find it to be a good show even today, let alone 14 years ago when it came out.

Here's a quote to give you a feel -
"Hey could we all just quiet down here... I played starcraft last night, I would've beat it too if it wasn't for those meddling aliens."

It reminds me of Daria, but the humour is less dry. Unfortunately the show has been cancelled after the first season (13 episodes).
Put it under adult.

Here's a link to the show on youtube

In addition to a lot of the shows mentioned in the OP, I watch a lot of:
Addams family
The grim adventures of Billy and Mandy
Dilbert
Aqua teen hunger force
Ren and Stimpy
Lucy the daughter of the devil
The amazing world of gumball
The regular show
Bob's burgers.
I watch a hell of a lot of cartoons, for me, nothing can lower stress better than flopping on the couch with a cup of tea or coffee and watch a cartoon on my laptop. Pure bliss.
