I seen turkish star wars online a few years back by that very title, it is about a guy training another man to fight an evil sorcerer, and in order to do that he has to first get a mystical sword (which happens to be made out of plywood).

Now that I think of it didn't the Japanese also do some sort of their own version of the Powerpuff Girls? Or something. Meh I dunno. Good episode as always.

Now if you excuse me for some reason I want to go listen to Rammstein's Amerika. Excuse me.

THERE DOING A TIN TIN MOVIE?
my life as a six year old was all about tin tin.
and lady terminator sounds like a fun movie!
The trailers for it have been circulating for a while. Looks like its a bit of a mash-up of the first few books.

But let's get one thing straight: they're going to have to drop the drugs from the movie. From what I can recollect in the seven years since I have read Tin Tin, more than half of all the stories involved some level of drug smuggling, most often opium. They're probably going to cut this from the US films to avoid controversy. Otherwise, the CGI art style seems to be an interesting adaptation of the original ink and paper and I look forward to seeing it.

But that's not what I want to talk about...

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium 1, for some people) was a beautifully dark Sweedish movie, and the two sequels in that did a wonderful job of adapting the stories to film, even if they changed up some parts. Daniel Craig is an excellent choice for Mikael Blomkvist (the main character) and Rooney Mara's list of past roles [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1913734/] suggest that she could potentially pull off Lisbeth Salander (the title character) with the right director behind the wheel. Seeing as David Fincher also directed The Social Network, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Zodiac, Panic Room, Se7en, and Fight Club, I think we have a winner of an adaptation here...

Ah Tintin movie. Man that brings back fond memories. Plus Mrs April O'Neil anime style is making me blush, first female character I had a crush on.

Spider-Man being the godfather of the Super Sentai (Power Rangers) craze?, lady Terminators?, Turkish Star Wars?, El Santo teaming up with Captain America!??, killer guinea pigs eating eyeballs!??, an anime TMNT that I never saw!???.

I remember tin-tin as well from the books that were like hard cover comics.

I think it had a cartoon show as well.

Has there been a reboot of Asterix & Obelix yet?

I do love Tin-Tin but an Asterix & Obelix film would be awesome. Not live action, no no no.

If you think Turkish Star Wars is weird, you haven't heard of Brazilian Star Wars.

Many countries like Italy, Nigeria, Turkey, Brazil, and Korea have been known to take properties from bigger countries and make their own movies out of it. And I mean remake them entirely, sometimes shot for shot, often with their own spins on the movie.

For more information on Remakesploitation, visit The Cinema Snob and Deja View.

Bob, you missed a golden opportunity to use the Ninja Turtles theme as the closing credits there. I am disappoint.

On a more serious note, if anyone out there is intrigued by the notion that Spiderman inspired Sentai which inspired Power Rangers, I think it'd .be worth your time to give Sentai a shot. From what I've seen, it's more serious than Power Rangers, at least to the degree that the characters know to keep their mouths shut during the fight sequences.

Although be warned: you're going to have to settle for English-subtitled Japanese footage, not every series is going to be as good as the others (I've watched all of Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, for example, and loved nearly every second of it, but I've seen two episodes of it's successor Tensou Sentai Goseiger, and I don't really care to watch any more of that. I will when I get the chance just because there'll be a team-up movie with Shinkenger waiting for me near the end, but if I didn't know that I'd probably give up on it. Although I'm told the Sentai that comes after that, Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, is fantastic, even if you weren't a big Sentai fan.), and you might find yourself going to a lot of trouble to actually find the series' short of learning Japanese and ordering the DVDs and a player of the appropriate region from Japan.
Technically Bob flubbed that up; Super Sentai started a whole 3 years before with Goranger, but it was only truly considered Super Sentai in 95 and beyond. If anything Spider Man ripped off Ishinomori's creation and Sentai ripped off the Spider Man sentai. Now that is a mindfuck.

Also, see the Cinema Snob if ya wanna see any of these really crappy foreign ripoffs. He's reviewed Brazilian Star Wars as well

Subtle ending, Bob. Real subtle. You're talking about Samurai Pizza Cats, right? heh.

I think the obvious remake you're thinking of is Powerpuff Girls Z.
That's an interesting one. Because of the animation style of the US original, many people think it already WAS Japanese ;)

Wow, just few seconds of the TMNT anime and I can already say that looks f**king terrible. The turtles look more like DBZ characters in green face paint then actual turtles for a start.

Oh yeh, and if any of you wanted to see more of movies like "Lady Terminator" and "Turkish Star Wars" I recommend watching the Cinema Snob. (www.thecinemasnob.com)

Its kind of cute, but you make it sound like the japanese Spiderman and the turkish version of El Santo & Captain America vs Spiderman are actually good.

Not good in a funny-that-it-exists kind of way, just plain, objectively good... Which they are not.

Don't forget the Kamen Rider series. We've had two of those Americanized over here, with mixed degrees of success. One with Kamen Rider Black RX for Masked Rider, a parallel series to the third season of Power Rangers. And then Kamen Rider Ryuki, or as the WB called it, Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight.

Still, Spider-Man encouraging the growth of Sentai? I could see that, but only in regards to the Zords. Super Sentai was around two years (1976) before the Spider-Man show, but the Zords were not really introduced until maybe the tenth season. From memory, there are about 25 Megazords, not counting alternate builds.

If you're a fan of the Sentai shows, or Power Rangers, there is a User Group here for them. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Mighty-Morphin-Super-Sentai-User-and-Fan-Group]
