As a kid, I liked the idea of what the Clone Saga was attempting to do: keep Peter and MJ in weeded bliss, and shuffle them off to live their life, and have Ben step up as Spidey so that there would still be a web slinger fighting crime. But, Marvel has a nasty habit of taking a good idea and turning it into a hot mess. Especially when it's one of their bigger name heroes.

But I'll take another Clone Saga over the self-insert fanfic that was OMD/OMIT.

Completely ignoring all the backstory baloney, Scarlet Spider was kind of cool in his own right. I never knew that ripped-up shirt he wore was actually hoodie, though.

Good God. What a mind-numbing story telling catastrophe. Is George Lucas at all involved with the story? Ba-Dum-Tish!

See, this is why I read Japanese Manga. Their is a beginning, a middle, and a end. (and no, I don't read DBZ) We get a good ass story, and we get to eventually move on.

American comic books needs to take a hint and start retiring their character so that they can move onto new ones. If they die, let them stay dead, and have a brand new character take their place, it can even be part of their organ story. Spider-man can retire, and later have him return as a mentor for a new hero.

I liked the Scarlet Spider personally, though I wasn't a fan of his version of the classic costume. The story was a good idea badly handled and at least there was some degree of logic in having Ben take over the mantle instead of the stupid deal with the devil thing.

I said it before and I'll say it again..

Eh?

Why do people like this stuff? Frank Herbert, Gene Wolfe, Le Guin, China Meiville, Robin Hobb, and many other wonderful writers exist(or have existed) that don't churn out giant incoherent messes (ok Wolfe has made some incoherent messes, but some are pure masterpieces)

Not to mention there are some wonderful comics to boot, Scott Pilgrim anyone?

So why are is this stuff still getting consumed? Is it like a bad accident you can't turn your eyes from?

comics are Weird for the win!

Keep doing stuff like this, maybe tell people how wolverine started off as a hulk villain rather than a X-men!

Show the original core x-men group, how its nothing like todays is....

Wow. That was a little confusing. So many clones in that series, it was hard for me to follow who was the real person and who was the clone.

The only thing I remember about Spiderman in the 90s was the animation. And to this day, I still enjoy it.

I wonder if the appeal of the "Comics Are Weird!!!!" segments is in gleaning some understanding of the history of familiar characters without having to go through the trouble of hunting down ten zillion back issues and/or trades. God knows I don't have the time or interest in familiarizing myself with storylines generally regarded as awful, but it is fairly entertaining to hear MB go on (or off) about them.

I read a semi-random assortment of comics that my local library gets as trade paperbacks or that friends recommend, but I'm genuinely amazed by the encyclopedic knowledge of characters and comic histories that some people possess- at the same time having little interest in acquiring the same.

Spider-Girl really was a good book, despite the little attention it received. It's a dirty shame that the book's initial run was collected in small-ass digest books. Give me a regular-sized omnibus, and I'll gladly fork over the the dough.

To an outside observer who has never read a comic book in his life, super hero comics look like the most convoluted pieces of absolute non-sensical shit ever. I'm glad I don't spend my hard earned money on this crap.

So, when's the topic on the whole Superman fiasco after he died? I mean, I could never keep that damn story straight either. What, with a cyborg superman, an all metal superman, a kid superman, and wasn't there some dog superman too or something? Man, talk about COMICS ARE WIERD

I remember when i a young lad went into a comic book store, picked up his very first issue od Spiderman because he'd been watching it on TV and lo and behold, it was the very issue Ben and Peter made the DNA test of them both... In a way Spiderman died for that kid that day.

DC atleast did it proper and flused their entire universe and started off again, not that some people can accept that Wonder Woman did not fight the Nazies, not Diana at least.
