Perfect Scores: Heaven help the people who's self eseteem comes from the scores of the games they play.

Ron Paul: he'd just be back in 90 days anyway.

Storage: you sound surprised

Old Republic: yeah, gay people exist is only news to really cut off 6 year olds, and only offensive to total nuts.

SCV: I've had this arguement a lot myself, and I stand by as long as Twilight, Harliquin romance novels and yaoi exist, please quit complaining if I buy something to look at huge boobs.

Dutchman: If this is true, can you take one for the team and get employed at Wal-mart.

Feminism: groups are judged by their worst members (look at gamers). I don't want to use the label as an insult, it just isn't easy where every female character getss disected for her appropriateness as a female role model, and chastised for any minor flaw.

Racism: You couldn't turn that into a full episode?

FIM: Damage is done and we'll have to live with it.

ugh that stupid deus ex racism again. no its not racist I met people like that.
acknowledging the fact that those people exist is not racist. I think that people yust found her annoying and because they didn?t want to sound racist they said that the game is racist once again proving that we can still not live with people of other races.
O and soul caliber really this and all other fighting games to me are a horrible blood stain on videogames that sets back the idea of video games as art back many years and should disappear from the earth the fact that people defend them sickens me.
Instead of not complaining about twilight we should not buy soul caliber and mortal combat and street fighter and all those other games that cause so much harm and have little place in a modern world,
Wait a second Fighting games have quite a lot of artistic work put into them just hell most fighting games have hand drawn sprite work these guys spend months drawing these characters and making sure it all flows properly. If that isn't ART that they bust their ass to hand draw sprite by sprite just because fighting games are violent, bloody and or have glaring stereotypes doesn't mean shit. If fighting games have to go because they cause "harm" for that reason alone then everything else has to go too. Like Shooters, Hack and Slasher, Brawlers, RPG's and MMO's. By your logic they have no place in the modern world either.

Movie Bob's not a fan of My Little Pony then?

I shall comment on something in the video that no one has commented on yet. At least, no one on the first page from all the posts that I quickly glanced through
I would welcome the return of memory cards. First, it frees up space on the hard drive. Yes, I know you can just delete stuff, and I know it's simple to install more memory. But what if you want to play the stuff after you delete it? You have to waste all that time reinstalling it. Pain. And why pay for more memory when you can simply transfer stuff?
Second, I lost ALL my saved data when my PS3 died. Why? Because the geniuses at Sony decided that the only way to transfer saved data was to link one PS3 to the other, have them both turned on, and move the stuff over. Okay, how am I supposed to do that AFTER my system has died and I have no way to turning it back on? I lost my Record of Agarest War save data, and more importantly, my theme from FFXIII that I go when I finally got all the trophies. If I had had a memory and could just have moved the card over to the other PS3, I would still have my stuff. So yes, I would love to have memory cards back. Make them optional, since I'm betting I'm in the minority.

re: Death of innocence

First a bit of a preface (which means 99% are about to skip over this post). When my son was about one or two we had a problem with him hitting us. We fixed this by playing Morrowind with him. My wife and I chose fairly pacifist builds, never attacked anything unprovoked, but of course sometimes monsters would come up and hit us! He didn't like that monsters would attack us, and fairly quickly his hitting problem was solved.

I was recounting this in a thread about TES V gore, and how I'd likely need to wait for mods to lower the violence level if I play the game when my son is around (he's now six). Immediately someone jumped on this because I had problems exposing my kids to gore, but not gay marriage.

This is quite true, I have no problems exposing him to gay marriage. Funny thing though, I wasn't planning to pursue relationships in TES V before, but maybe I'll be using TES V to demonstrate to my son that such relationships are normal.

Feminism is not an insult but Masculism is... explain that one to me Bob.
150,000 years of human history/pre-history (give or take) of men having 100% absolute power over the lives (and, to be blunt, bodies) of women versus only about 40-50 (give or take) years of SOME women (primarily those fortunate enough to be born in so-called "first world" countries) having legally-protected equal status to men which is none the less STILL under constant threat re: anti-choice movements, male-reassertiveness ideologies, etc. The worst excess of our supposedly "feminist" modern culture is that men are occasionally denied certain levels of unfair privilige prior generations may have enjoyed, while the worst excesses of the "masculist" culture that preceded it included forced-subservience, casual spousal-abuse, female non-personhood and rape as a legally-unprovable "thing that happened" as everyday accepted ways of life.

That's why.

and no I don't insult twilight for being soft-core porn, I insult it for insulting and destroys the mythology's surrounding two of my favorite mythical creatures in the same way Fox destroys the concept of "Intelligent Life" (...in America)
Just curious, when you say "Intelligent Life" do you mean living an intellectually fulfiling life or Aliens? Because really with Fox in can go both ways.

Anyways, to the video:

Perfect Scores: I got to disagree in some regards. After all, to adress the point of "Perfect", just because something is perfect doesn't mean it can't be improved on. After all, many such as myself would consider say the concept of a simple cheeseburger to be perfect, adding extra ingredients may be "patching" or "adding DLC" to the cheeseburger, but the concept is still perfect, it's just being improved upon. But in terms of the actual ratings thing? This is sort of what I have against not the 10 system, but the .10 system. I mean, there is a clear difference between say an 8 and a 9, but what about a 9.2 and a 9.4? It makes sense when averageing out reviews, but in an actual review if a game scores high enough to earn say a 9.7, why not just bump it up to a 10?

Politicians: I will admit I get that vibe, but while American politicians look like the modern picture-frame pictures, here in Canada it feels more like the politicians look like the old picture-frame pictures from the 70s and 80s more than the modern ones.

Ron Paul: I'd imagine for some-reason that it would be like GLaDOS trying to tell Whetley a paradox, he answers without thinking and everyone stares in amazement that he defied physics for NOT disapearing (well whatever physics Ron Paul runs by anyways)

Memeory Stick: Hey, I'd take the memory stick over internal hard drives (on the console or the game) since if either a) the game become corrupt or b) the hand-held drops I can still keep my save-data instead of losing hours of gameplay. Also, while this links into the MlP thing, why is it all right (for you anyways) to re-make old games with only an addition of 3D but re-booting old shows adding completely new things is somehow bad? (I actually know the answer, starts with a capitl N, I'm just confused as to how one rationalizes that idea)

Old-Republic: Frankly the thing about marriage in Old-Republic was such a non-issue that anyone taking issue with it should've just been played off as just over-reacting (although the only thing I can imagine one complaining about marriage in Old-Republic that would be valid is that the whole marriage thing sort of goes against the solitude of being a Jedi)

Soul Calibur 5/Twilight: And what if I don't care when people complain about the SC character models, does that mean I can hate on Twilight still? Besides which, I'm pretty sure the character "Hotness" of the Twilight characters is simple the cherry on the shit-cake of a series, so it's not like with SC where people only hate it because of the character models (although admitdaly I'm sure several people hate SC for other reasons as well, seeing as how the series is going)

Feminist: I sort of treat the use of the word Feminist as an insult the same way I see people use the word Masculine as an insult, as in I find both somewhat stupid but something I care little enough to complain about (although that may just be because of my issue with the word Feminist, which I'll only get into here if someone asks)

Retail: Maybe I'm missing something, but are all those retails going out of business? Also for those wondering about the fifth retailer, I'm pretty sure the fifth was Game Stop (if GO is anything to go by)

Deus Ex: well realistically that argument has as much credence as the argument "Hey, I know one person who is [character's color] and they thought it was offensive", which I'm pretty sure is how the Deus Ex shit-storm originally happened (I may be wrong, I'm sort of out of the flow) Suffice to say no, I don't think that character is racist or that the game is racist (character may be annoying but I wouldn't say a racist character), and one doesn't need the argument of "I know someone" in order to argue against the claim.

Christian Bale: I only know one person who bothers to do the Christian Bale voice, everyone else does Heth Ledgers voice (mainly just the lie of "Want to know how I got these scars?")

MlP: See post about memory cards for my thoughts (I should note that I am apparently immune to MlP and personally am not a fan of the series, but it certainly isn't because it's based on an old show)

But aren't the males in Soul Calibur hypersexualized too? Every one of them has a six pack, sculpted pecs, and huge arms. Does that not count, just because men are expected to play SC more than women are?
Thats something I thought too, just look at Maxi's belly shirt. I think the case with Soul Caliber though is Ivy in particular, she really doesn't even match a human shape, never mind one that could move so easily, add how her outfits get increasing skimpy. I've never liked Ivy for the reason that she doesn't look like a human. But yes, it gets less attention because there are less girls playing it, its less a part of what shapes a collective female opinion.

10/10 doesn't mean perfect it means 10/10. I mean if a game gets 9/10 and a patch improves it does that mean it's now a 10/10 game? WHat if a patch improves on that? If no game can ever get 10/10 because no game is perfect then you better rate everything a -infinity out of 10 just to be sure.

Is it okay for me to loathe both the over-sexualised, child-pandering of women(and men,why do people always forget this??) in games and twilight? Cuz I do.
Also, I hadn't really thought about your MLP point, I just hoped studios wouldn't be that stupid. I now realise how naive I was being...

I don't even see how people find character's like Ivy, etc. to be sexy titillation anyway. The ridiculously over the top costumes are just hilariously audacious (not sexy) and the characters always have ridiculously out of proportion bodies that are just gross if you think about how they'd look in real life.

Anyway, I'm cool with feminists (and am one, really), and I actually love it when people bring up reasonable, valid questions about social norms such as the objectivization of female characters, or prevalence of racist stereotypes because, well, society can only get better if everyone takes time to think about the root causes of their beliefs and why they matter to them.

Excellent post. I actually check out 'Big Hollywood' and when I read the post by Nolte I was irritated. Considering that the website is supposedly 'libertarian' (which it's not, it's much more conservative) this was pretty annoying to have from one of 'our' writers. Let me be clear, there are plenty of us out there who don't care about choices made in a computer game. I really hope that the ones who actually do care just don't buy the game.

or that they almost always get the kids and 50% of everything (not their contribution) in a divorce.

And I'm sure I'm going to get called a sexsits arsehole in this thread.
The problem with using this statistic is that the women is the primary caregiver of the children in the overwhelming majority of households. If you look at statistics purely for male primary caregivers and compare those to females (i.e. apples to apples) men have comparable rates of custody.

Also, the 50% as opposed to personal contribution thing is to take into account all of the unpaid domestic labour (cooking, cleaning, childcare, etc.) that the stay at home parent did to support the working parent. And, sadly, even amongst two-income couples the woman tends to do two-thirds of the domestic labour, so even if the man's income is greater, there is an argument that he owes her for that unpaid work.

Of course you can - and should - get your potential spouse to sign a pre-nup to protect your premarital assets. Obviously your spouse didn't help you earn those, and the courts will let you keep them.

Bob is such a nintendocrat. Anyway I agree with the majority of things, memory cards mostly. I'm still living in the DS Lite era, card free.

huh. I moved some of my saved data from my ps3 onto my psp. And then I took the data on the psp and moved it into the computer for safe keeping. Maybe you are an older user than me I got my ps3 last april.

I'd say yes to a remake of Jem and the Holograms...provided the title of the show is changed to Earthworm Jim and the Holograms.

As for Batman, I can't wait to see who helms the next trilogy of Batman films. Hopefully the WB will start up their own Justice League or, Super Friends project and, hopefully the next Batman will be more like Kevin Conroy.
