Blatant trolling by someone who knows he has an audience. I respect his movie reviews and will probably continue to watch them. Although I'll probably be a lot more skeptical of his opinions now that I know he is capable of distorting the truth in order to make a point. Or gain page views.

Just because he prefers sitting on his fat ass in front of his tv with a Cheeto stained controller in his greasy paws, does not mean that the entire gaming community prefers to game that way.

Want to know what's great about pc gaming now? MODs. Its hours and hours of free (and often very good) content that the console markets can't support or comprehend. The guys who make those mods are almost universally pc gamers.

Also STEAM. And other similar digital distribution services. I don't think I'd buy any games if I actually still had to drive to a shop to buy one.

ps. I have no idea how Movie Bob looks. If he is in fact fat, and I hurt his feelings... It was unintentional.

Saying that an argument against your point is flaming is just about the most pathetic thing I've heard and I expect to be treated better Bob. (guess i'm just another troll?)

The keyboard will never go out of fashion until thought interface software/hardware become viable. Or we ditch language as our primary form of communication but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I like your videos I really do but this was just not very good.

EDIT: I do the majority of my gaming on an Xbox 360. And I'm angry that in this video I've been labeled an elitist (an American's favourite word next to totalitarian) c#%!

While I do see the shift mentioned, both PC and console gaming have distinct merits, which will keep them separate for quite a while longer.

Consoles are the party time systems. It's easy to invite a few friends over, pop in Rock Band, Smash Bros or whatever other party game is available, and get right to it. It's also nice for casual gamers to not have to worry about compatibility or hardware requirements. If I own an XBox 360, any game labeled "XBox 360" will work.

PCs on the other hand have much *MUCH* better multitasking and input methods. What are the chances you could be playing KZ3 (per Yahtzee's review) and decide to pop over to a web page and check out reviews for a different game? Even with the add-on keyboard accessory, it's going to be a pain, and you certainly can't have both things up and visible at the same time. Oh, and turn on an internet radio while you browse. Now kill the music and switch back to the game.

And that's not even scratching the surface of hardware potential. Any computer built today will destroy the current gen of consoles. Not entirely fair, considering the consoles were released three and a half years ago, but doesn't change facts. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how crysis looks at max settings on a PC vs console (or even, if the "max settings" are comparable)

For now, the niche markets will have their fun (tablets, touch screen and mobile gaming, for instance) but whether or not they're here for the long haul remains to be seen. Consoles and PCs will both be around for many many years to come. And I for one, am perfectly happy with that.

And in response to the very flame-inducing subject matter as a whole... I wonder if bob was a bit upset that he hasn't broken the 200 comment barrier since his last big controversial topic, and hadn't broken the 1k mark EVER (first BP is still pretty damn close though)

Heck, if you discount the aforementioned previous mega-controversial topic, Big Pic's 4-week average is getting smoked by ZP, EC and Top5.

Dammit moviebob, I considered you worth listening to untill now.

Edit: To elaborate, anyone who includes a: "If you disagree with me you are proving me right" clause loses any form of relevancy or authority in my books
Yes I agree, I interpereted it as "disagree with me? see?! you are in DENIAL!"

Isaac's thoughts

I agree with MovieBob.

The PC as we know it will still exist in some form or another due to it's customisable nature. Possibly as an extension or adaptation of the computing platform of the day. Ie. "It's like a but with expanded and specialized hardware".

Games may not be directly made for it but they will still be played on it.

The server hardware industry will keep the "desktop" computer concept alive for quite some time until server hardware and it's housing/cooling systems are integrated into the one. Ie. The "server room" is a room that has the server built-into it.

The as the open-source movement continues to gain awareness pressure will mount for manufactures to move away from the closed garden model that tablet and mobile "app devices" are currently locked into (Android phones are a step forward, but they could be better).

Redefine words to mean what you think.

Lovely.

I'd love to think that you just created this for page views, out of spite, because most of the reviewers have their own little hate pad against computers.

I know this isn't true though. You've just redefined all the words. Whee. That's nice. And added a disclaimer that if anyone flames, you're right as well.

I'm not going to get angry, because the writing on the wall's been there for some time. You work on PCs, you play on consoles, so because you hate work, you have to differentiate them.

Comfort over Versatility. Sad. Maybe it's all just for page views though? Part of me wishes it was just a troll attempt.

Here's the Little Picture: [HEADING=3] Consoles are becoming PCs.[/HEADING]

Like I said, PC game sales rose last year
I'm going to do something you probably won't see here (as a PC supremist).

I demand evidence.
You both fail to see the point. Sales are completely irrelevant as they are not sales of PC games they are sales of console games that can be played on the PC. Its the pure blood PC game that is dying out (I didn't mean that so sound quite so nazi but its the only way I can think to put it).
I like that. I like that a lot. Pure Blood PC Gaming Race. We'll call ourselves something more modern, like a certain blue people, that also accept no outsiders and non of the outsiders understands... We'll be the Na'zi :D

On the side not, who is willing to bet, that Bob actually will ignore us (this tread) to death?

I guess the issue that has been mentioned a bit is the true definition of a 'PC'

All I can say is why I prefer my PC to using a console. Now just to clear this up, I own all the current generation consoles but I was raised on PCs (and Macs). I played Duke Nukem I, Doom and Commander Keen while laughing at the console owner's precious 'Mario' during my youth, but, you get older and things change.

That doesn't stop me from keeping PC as my priority gaming device, if it's multi-platform and out on PC I'll be getting it for my PC. (except Mass Effect 2, but that's because I got the first one on the Xbox).

It really comes down to flexibility for me. I'm a video editor and motion graphics artist by trade. I'm also a casual musician, writer, Dungeon Master, tabletop war-gamer and part time university lecturer. The majority of these tasks I complete on my PC, the rest of the tasks I'll complete on my MacBook Pro purely because there is certain software I need that just won't run on Windows.

Now while there's a certain benefit to using specific devices for my specific tasks you just can't beat the pure convenience of being able to do multiple tasks from one hub.
I definitely think that the PC will change in it's purpose over time but maybe I'm just getting old and out of date.

Love your hearing your opinions Bob, and while I'll have to disagree with you on this one, I'll still defend to the death your right to voice it.

Wrong

I might be a bit late to the party, but I'd like you to watch my response. It's not just a rant on how PC gaming is superior, I replied to each of your points.

Great point with the consoles being PCs.. You know, I'd go one step further. And say that "computer-gaming" has always been a complete fad from start to finish. Something that was invented to run around on the screen for a while, but which never had any future as a single purpose device. The mere thought of having a screen in the living-room /only/ for games is ridiculous even for me. So to end up predicting that specifically made computer-games isn't going to always follow whatever devices we use for convenience, and change form depending on culture and context... that's much more radical than stating that PC-gaming ends. It does, because computers play a different role, just like you say.

Wonder how long it'll take before people realise that MovieBob meant that you don't need PC's themselves anymore, by that he means that with every other portable device on the planet the days when gaming on the PC has to be restricted to a great hulking behemoth are gone, that there a few situations when games have to be on this device in order to get the most out of it.

I've got a friend organizing a Starcraft 2 laptop party which is not only physically possible but it also reduces the chances of one of us getting severe back pains from lugging around your average system.

In much less words, Moviebob is saying that PC systems aren't needed any more to play games and that games aren't "needed" exclusively for PC systems either. He just likes to mess about with fanboys too much.

A laptop. Is. A. PC.

Just because Moviebob says something is something else does not make it true.

This is not a matter of PC fanboys overreacting and not understanding what he said. WHAT HE SAID is not correct, because it is predicated on crappy assumptions and willful misinterpretation of facts and dictionary definitions.

XD well great episode. I'll fully agree with this sentiment the day my favorite game genre, REAL TIME STRATEGY, can be played great without a mouse and keyboard :D

also would love to see the day where i get to show some young whipper-snappers what my generation of PC's looked like XD

But why would I want to use four different devices to do all this stuff when I could just sit down on my comfy chair at my computer and do them all on one device?
And we have a winner. We're moving further and further toward multifunction devices and nothing does as much as a PC/laptop (I don't differentiate between PCs and laptops, identical functionality with differing form factors).

Cloud gaming will change things up for *all* gaming mediums. All you'd need then is a screen (be it wall mounted or battery powered and portable) with a web UI and a usb port for a controller/pad. Even then, I wonder what the cloud games be running on at the far end?

Until cloud gaming comes about though it is console gaming as we know it (a device that ONLY plays games) that will die the death. All the new functionality afforded to the newest generation of consoles existed on the PC long before. As was said earlier, consoles are becoming PCs.

Just to qualify my opinions - I've only got into PC gaming in the last 3 years whereas I've been into consoles since the NES (I've owned a NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, PS2, XBOX, Dreamcast, DS Lite, PSP, 360 and a Wii Wii). I enjoy multiplayer on the consoles, XBL covers every game on the system, but 1 player gaming I prefer on the PC.

As a very proud mac owner, I can look at this situation from the outside... and well That doesn't entirely hold anywater. See what you didn't think is that, yes the HOME computer for gaming is dead, but there is still the LAPTOP computer that does PC gaming as well. I've known plenty of people who carry around their PC's (if a bit large) and they will play their Hardcore PC gaming on those Laptop anywhere they go. I've seen it for my very eyes.

There are also some Let Players who only play PC gaming. So I don't entirely agree with you. Not everyone owns or wants a tablet or phone for their gaming, like me for instance.

Gaming is and will still be on the computer, just not the big one collecting dust. That's what My dad uses for his Job. I however will be playing Mac accessable games like Minecraft on my MAC LAPTOP.

So I'm confused how you say it's dying when it is still on a computer.

THANK YOU. I love how he says that PC gaming is dead and then says that one of the devices is a Laptop. Because in the end isn't that a computer as well? And as long as it is a PC Laptop it is a PC just as my Macbook is still a mac.

In fact the laptop is my only computer besides the old retro family desktop we never use except for emergency back up files. It's really old though.

I need a new PC if I want to game, I can't justify it when I have a PC that works fine for everything else. Consoles are cheaper, they get pretty much all the same game releases and games actually have resale and no DRM.

Now, I'm not saying that mouse-keyboard isn't superior for certain types of gaming, or that this argument makes mute points, there will always be a place for PC gaming, especially the modding community, but as it is, even as a core gamer, getting back into PC gaming while I have a viable alternative isn't a realistic option.
