Good story.

Ghostbusters was one of the best cartoons of my childhood.

And I loved that red-head...

Also: Pirates of Dark Water, Dungeons & Dragons, Saint Seiya, Courage, Dexter's Lab, the Coyote...
Pirates of Dark Water was good. It's just too bad that by the time the overall storyline finally started to get somewhere, the series got cancelled.
Yeah, 8 treasures gotten and cut. Too cruel man.

I have noticed that you throw the topic of anime and the Japanese culture in your videos somewhat often yet I haven't seen an full topic on the subject. Now I'm not saying just do a homage to Japanese culture as it pertains to nerd culture but use it more broadly like you already do with comic books and video games. For example you could ease into having topics pertaining to anime by starting with how Hollywood is purchasing movie rights to major anime titles As far as how you can use this subject to ease into using anime as a topic all you need to do is compare it side by side to how video games were brought into the movies. Personally I see live action anime movies going the exact same way as live action video game productions. Most of the movies will be bad, ignore the source material, have terrible acting, be low budget straight to DVD movies, enrage fans, etc. Don't get me wrong I'm not that clinical but its had not to be so considering all the terrible video game movies that sullied my child hood memories and how rarely one came out that was any good. Anyways a long story short I would like to see some anime based topics and how they are being adapted into the American movie industry is a good start.

Bob skipped over one point in the video I would have very much liked more on - and that's why Ghostbusters is such a classic.

I didn't watch it as a kid, and watching as an adult... I didn't like one thing about it. I was barely able to watch it all the way through, and I usually love these kinds of movies. The lines weren't funny or serious, the plot was all over the place, the acting seemed bad... I don't know.

I don't want to troll, I'm just really interested in why people like that movie. Reasons?

Heh, I just watched Filmation's Ghost Busters on Hubo about an hour ago (right after Bravestarr woo!), Prime Evil sent a dragon to melt the north pole and raise the sea level.

I must admit I liked both series when I was a kid so it was more of a "huh, that's weird" oddity than an angry "what the hell" moment. I never knew the truth untill the 90's when I got access to the internet.

Man, I just saw this on Youtube. My mind is going to explode. Authentic and well done Lovecraft references in a kids tv show? References to the old ones and shoggoths and the actual chants. Crazy!

I remember back when I was about 7 or 8 years old and seeing the OG ghostbusters then having that exact reaction when I saw it. I was like where hell are all characters I know, and what the heck is this? I did watch both shows as I tried give most things a chance but the filmation ghostbusters was not remotely as good as the Real Ghostbusters.

The real ghostbusters despite being a kids show managed to have some rather scary monsters(the boogy man and grendal were pretty nasty bad guys.) for some of the episodes and always kept a bit of serious tone to it. Every member of the show had episodes around them, which generally were likeable and had a point to them.

I disliked most of the characters in the Filmation Ghostbusters. Jake was a know it all who just annoyed me, and Eddie was too dumb and screwed up most the time. Tracy was usually the most competent one, but being a freaking ape gave me no one I particularly liked or rooted for. I dont know how the ghost busters could stand working in their lair as every object there was sentient and had a bad attitude..especially their car. In general the show was just too zany and went off the rails to point was lame at times. I do give the show props for having continuity to the original show as the original characters(the fathers.) appeared in a few episodes. Over all was ok, but I can understand why and how this show was easily forgotten by most. If it didn't share the name with the movie and other cartoon it would likely be even more obscure than it already was.

Regardless of what others have said, I think this was acool topic to have brought up. I knew the majority of the stuff mentioned as I looked up details about most shows I used watch as a kid due to some sites I frequent having threads taking trips down memory lane. (Galaxy Rangers, Centurions and M.A.S.K. were all previous favorites from the 80s I enjoyed. They held up alright rewatching them as an adult.) I can see how tons of people likely never knew about this or completely forgot, but with Ghost busters 3 coming down the pipe in next few years it's probably a good primer for it. Chances are people are going be bringing this up then anyways. Might as well be the first to know here right heh.

Strange, i as a kid always thought that Ghostbusters was kind of a "prequel" to the real Ghostbusters due to the more retro looks of it. The real Ghostbusters had some serious Nighmarefuel back then..

Just watched the episode in which the real Ghostbusters fight Cthulu (or Cathulhu it is there on Youtube).
So awesome

I couldn't agree more. The reverb makes me cringe every time single time, and the amount that it bothers me is starting to grow exponentially rather than arithmetically.

I actually have to pause and go get a drink to keep from hulking out.

Please, Bob. Please. Just stop with that horrible reverb?

In the off chance your reading this Moive Bob i just wanted to thank you for this particular segment. I actually was one of those kids who saw and loved the ghostbuster movie only to drop an F bomb when the ghostbuster cartoon came out. I've always wanted to know what the hell that was about and now i know. Thank You very much.

I think he was talking about how the real ghostbusters writers would take some low blows at filmation like in one episode, Peter venkman's father is wearing a suit similar to Jake uniform and in one Peter says "I'm amazed she knew who we were even though we don't have a gorilla."

Also anyone find it odd while Peter Mullen(voice of G1 Optimus Prime) voiced Eddie Spencer on Filmation's ghostbusters while Frank Welker(voice of G1 Megatron/Galvatron) voiced Ray Stantz on the Real Ghostbusters?

Two questions. First, why didn't you tell me you lurked here as well, Jman? (Glad to see someone I know is here!) Second...am I only the only one who thinks it's ironic that two people who voices rivals one a single series voices characters of rival programs?

Now if only someone would make a DVD box set of The Real Ghostbusters.
Those guys faced so many things nerds drool over these days. They faced the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Hell, they faced Cthullu.

I've waited for so many years to see The Real Ghostbusters on DVD, but the best I can find is maybe a few Region 1 DVDs with a couple of episodes on them.
My recorded-off-TV VHS tapes aren't gonna last forever, guys!

been a while since I've seen the real Ghostbusters, I remember getting a ghostbusters toy volkswagon beetle that transformed into a praying mantis thing. It was awesome.
