Wonder if they will do a Planet Hulk movie, seems the best way to have a smarter Hulk work in a movie. I know nothing about the Guardians, but this looks like a fun movie. An is why i like The Big Picture, Bob can educate me about some of the characters so i can enjoy it more. :) I really want this movie to do well as it could lead to some interesting cross overs in a few years. Poor DC i just dont know how they can compete, i heard they cast someone to play Cyborg in the BvS movie - seriously they are packing way to many people in that movie. A lot of characters people have not heard of and i have no idea how they can make us care about these characters if they have no room to breath.

I'm not sure if someone mentioned this already, but Groot doesn't just say "I am Groot" the language of his people is an inflection based language and everything that he says just sounds like "I am Groot" which is why everyone calls him Groot. Rocket Racoon for reasons that I don't know is able to understand him in a sort of Han Solo-Chewbacca thing. Oh and he's also a prince on his world.

Cool rundown. It's rare I am more knowledgeable on a comic book topic than Bob is, but he still hit all the important points. I actually didn't know Riley was playing Dey. I hope that means Richard Rider gets an awesome appearance on the silver screen at some point as well. Rider's one of my all-time favorite Marvel characters.
I think a Nova movie, or a movie with Nova in it (like say a movie based on Annihilation) would depend on how successful GotG ends up being. Personally I hope it does well as I'd love to see some more of the cosmic Marvel characters. It was always a bit more fun in its Space Opera goodness/weirdness than the Earth based Marvel setting. I'd love to see a GotG sequel with Lovebug in it, as I think he would fit really well into the feel, at least according to the trailer, of this upcoming movie. I kind of wish he was in this movie, but Marvel probably hit its strange obscure anthropomorphic character limit with Rocket and Groot.

For all thoughs who are Interested in the comic DO read the Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning run from 2008ish, it's better than the current stuff, read their Nova too. :)

An Annihilation movie would make my brain implode. I don't think the world is ready for that level of awesomeness.

Jesus, I want to see Drax rip out Thanos' heart in live-action SO BAD.

I have absolutely nothing against this upcoming film, but I think it's going to bomb spectacularly if Disney doesn't spend nearly as much on the advertising as they will making the film itself.
A lot of effort, perhaps, but not as much money. This trailer was fantastic and it generated a ton of buzz. If they can keep marketing the movie like this, they should be good. I hope they don't show too much.
The trailer really did absolutely nothing for me.

Once you get past the CGI reskinning it's painfully obvious that much of the cast are the same sort of standard issue Science Fiction archetypes you've already seen a thousand times before. It'll take a little more than turning a tired cliche into an anthropomorphic talking squirrel to convince me that the movie is worth paying to see. And I'm a little disappointed how easily people have been bought off by the computer generated sleight-of-hand that is being used to hock a small portfolio of standard issue Sci-Fi cardboard cut outs.

I think what I'm trying to say is I was hoping for a strange new animal, akin but different from The Fifth Element. Once you get over the fact that guy is a tree and that guy is a talking squirrel, it just feels kinda like bad generic science fiction.

First off. I bet when Bob said "Milaaaaano" most blokes were thinking of a different picture to it than that food xD
Secondly I think the game MvC3 introduced a lot of people to Rocket Rackoon and Nova for the firs time and got them interested in those characters.

RR looks pretty damn well done, judging by the railer. I think I mainly want to watch this movie for him.

We already know that Disney/Marvel have a long-term strategy in mind, but this is getting ridiculously weird. I did not expect it to get this weird and to branch out into god knows how many other movies. Not even after the Avengers credits.
Well, each phase seems to have an outlandish movie in its set. Phase One had Thor, which was out there in comparison to the other movies in that lineup. Thor 2 was much more down to earth by comparison since most people going had an idea who Thor was. I wonder if for Phase Three the out there movie will be of Doctor Strange or of something else.

Three words huh? I can't help to wonder the amount in Vin Diesel's paycheck for this flick...
Still, the movie should be freaking awesome, haha.

GotG has a lot riding on its shoulders as not only the newest, but potentially biggest gun in the Marvel/Disney weaponized entertainment arsenal. You Bob pointed out, there's a lot of seeds being sewn here and it's going to be interesting to see how all of this plays out.

The only reason I understood any of what Bob said is because I've been watching his videos doggedly ever since The Avengers. That Bob himself doesn't know half of this stuff makes me worried about how I'm going to comprehend it.

My biggest concern is that they've made this with an attitude of a movie supposed to set up a ton of other movies, rather than a good movie in its own right. It's not that you can't do both, but in this trailer alone there are dozens of relevant links that can (and very well might) spawn an equal number of movies. Granted, a lot of that hinges on the characters themselves rather than anything that actually happens (and calling these characters cliches would be a bit silly considering how long they've been around), but it's still my main worry that they've spent too much focus on setting up their other movies and not enough on making this one good. Because if this one doesn't do good, the chances any of the following movies will do good take a dive.

I'm hopeful for the movie, and judging from the buzz it'll probably do well for itself. Whether that's well enough will be hard to tell until we see the box office results and the following chatter. As long as it finds a way to make itself interesting and engaging, I'm confident it'll do fine.

Ooooh look, more Nine inch Nails in a trailer for something. I need to get some kind of Trent Reznor counter at this point. I've listened to "With Teeth" enough to recognize "Love is not enough" when i hear it.
That was Nine Inch Nails? I thought it was some generic orchestral tune to play movie trailers to.
OT: Thanks for this analysis, Bob. It did not dawn on me those guys were the Nova Corps without their helmets, or any blue or gold on their uniforms. I hope you use this format again on another trailer. And since you didn't say it, I will:

COMICS! ARE! WEIRD!

That's what Disney made when they put Gunn in charge of this.

Raccoon*. Rocket Raccoon is a Raccoon. Aside from that, if you don't want to see the movie, that's your deal. I do, so I will.

All I know is that I cannot wait for August to roll by so I can see this movie.

Might even track down some collections of the Guardians of the Galaxy series to read for myself before hand.

I'm almost feel like watching this film after watching this rundown, especially since I would not understand the context of most of it. Then again I usually don't need the context to enjoy it, hmm.

Definitely like this format for trailer examination more than the text articles. I realize you can go into more detail without the time restriction, but it was really irritating to be bouncing back and forth between a trailer video and the trailer article.
