I think the reason why we don't see any other patriot super heroes from other countries is because America's sense of unified country is, at the end of the day, very rare in the rest of the world.

In Europe there are countries that have nationalist movements all over the place. They all want independence, even though for some of them would mean that they'd be tiny countries with only a few hundreds of square kilometers.

The two best examples I can think of are England and Spain, the latter being where I come from. Germany and Italy have their issues too. I'm not so sure about France. But don't get me started with Eastern Europe!

I think that's why most people find America's patriotism so insufferably annoying. I don't really have a problem with it, but I know I'm the exception. Probably because my mother is American, so I can't help having a soft spot for American culture despite the anti-Americanism that surrounds me.

Regarding Spain, our comic book industry has never been rooted in action and adventure stories. It's always been about satiric humor: "Mortadelo y Filemón" (Best Spanish comic books EVER!), "Zipi y Zape", "13 Rue del Percebe", "Anacleto, agente secreto", etc...

The only exceptions to the rule are two stories about Middle Age heroes: "El jabato" and "El capitán Trueno" ("Captain Thunder" And you thought "Captain America" was cheesy...)

Those two were very popular from the 50s to the 70s, but they started to loose popularity during the 80s. And during the 90s they almost dissapeared due to the Japanese manga "boom". Only "El capitán Trueno" keeps doing some books from time to time and have some nostalgia-rooted niche popularity. Maybe that would make a good movie, even though I doubt many people would be really interested.

Other countries have gods and rich mythologies. America doesn't so we have super heroes. Also, Mexico has Lucha Libre.

My country is pretty damn indifferent about superheroes. I mean yeah, when there's a new Spiderman or Batman movie we go see it... sometimes. I mean, the target demographic does... them being parents and kids.

The closes thing we have to a fictional character who's our designated national hero are a blue collar, overweight, alcoholic asshole father from a 80s sitcom who bitches about the state of the world, slaps policemen and once blew up his neighbour's apparment with fireworks on New Year's Eve and essentially the same character set during and post WW2 who helped a Jewish family flee from Vienna and talked some sense into his son when he wanted to join the SS. Iconic characters in their own right, but no superheroes.

Seriously now. Slip Jason Statham into the Union Jack outfit and the rest of the movie pretty much writes itself.

Captain Britain, meanwhile, I would make something more akin to GI Joe, centering around the titular Captain and MI:13. And naturally it would include a battle against Dracula and his vampire forces who are currently stationed on the moon. Very bombastic, but loads of fun.

We already had the "classic" superhero movie.
It was called X-Men Origins:Wolverine, and it sucked...but Wolverine is still ours :p

I can't imagine Norway trying to pull a straight superhero story, let alone a patriotic one.

The Four... Greats, apparently, was the closest I could think of, and it feels slightly similar to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Stars four classical Norwegian writers and playwrights, including Henrik Ibsen, fighting zombies, cyborgs and trolls during Norway's Union with Sweden. I would love to see a movie adaptation of it, but it isn't really the same.

Also, PARODIES. www.nettserier.no/fantastiskmann
I think superheroes work better for nations that won at least one war the last hundred years.
Edit: Also, Union Jack looks amazing.

About the fighting thing.
When you said it it sounded like you were offering a free-for-all war... That's controversial of you, Bob.

But simple fighting.
There are a ton of mix-fights, octagons and etc.
And to my great joy, Russia is pretty good at them to the point of having "Team World vs Team Russia" series.
So maybe you'd count that a little of point, as Russia's big hurrah! moment.

But Bob, from a foreigner's perspective, Captain America is very low-radar in the world as far as I know. Batman, Iron man and Spider-man call the shots. And CapAm is... Oh? Maybe I'll see it if nothing else is on.

I don't approve of dissing the awesome that was the world cup.
I second this! What the hell! THe world cup is big because the WORLD actually participates! As opposed to the World Football (that is American football) Championships, which really just involves teams from the same country. In fact, I think the US is the only country that doesn't go CRAZY over FIFA. Yeah they have a team, but there isn't advertising being shoved in your face and the game ACTUALLY HAPPENS rather than starting and stopping every ten seconds to rest the players and shove and ad in your face.

The rest of the world is fine with football (REAL football) so why isn't the U.S.? Sorry moviebob, but purely because of this fact, I can't say I agree at all with your video.

I'm sorry but did anyone else start thinking of the "G Gundam" story plot at the end when he said each nation should pick someone to fight for them to solve their problems? I had that anime going through my head when he mentioned countries each having their own heros too. Was I the only one?

Like you touched upon, people usually think of Americans as fat assholes and see Captain America as some sort of bragging. But isn't James Bond sort of like English bragging? Not sure if I understand my point, but whatever.

Also I'm afraid I'm not going to believe Chris Evans as Captain America. Sometimes I forget his name all together and call him Johnny Storm or Human Torch.
Duh. His name is Lucas Lee.
>.> I thought he was lucas wilson <.<
Nope. Lucas Lee in Scott Pilgrim!
some one hasn't read the 2nd comic yet
Whether or not his name is Lucas Wilson in the comic (though I still think it's Lucas Lee), Chris Evans plays the character on the screen, which is, Lucas Lee.
h no his name is lee in comics it's just in the comics scott gets lucas lee mixed up with lucas wilson from crash and the boys all the boys even after he's defeated lee

First one was retarded (Nazi sentiments in Halo? Really? Shitting me? Man, grasping at any straw available to support your ignorant hate, huh?)

And this one's a mess. What's with the stupid overused faces? And what have you said that anyone cares about that you didn't do in your Avengers Assemble episode of Escape to the Movies?

This show sucks.

Captain Ireland? Captain Eire? Emerald Isle Man? Four-Leaf Clobber? I wish ireland has SOME freaking super hero that isn't that chick with the power of dead people and luck or something.

I thought I read at some point that Captain America was of Irish parents or something but that's neither here nor there. A cool Irish superhero :( just 1 please.

I'm not liking the intro music, the background or the faces :(

but Bob is cwl as usual. I would say though, that in all honesty there is very little to be said for patriotism being a positive trait at all and looking back at history it's just caused atrocities to humanity and ridiculous me first attitudes that leads to people being tortured in prison cells
