I get a lot of use out of my Switch, but I think part and parcel of that is I']m a pretty social gamer. Board games are my jam, principally. And primarily the reason for that is actual human contact with people I would like to hang out with or at least get on amicably with to share a moment.
But that being said, that's not everyone. And I'd definitely wait abut 4-5 more months. There's some pretty great games, and as a portable it works phenomenally. But there's a high buy in point at the moment, and realistically speaking Zelda is the only game I can reasonably say I've sunk more than 60 hours into. And yeah, I get it ... great games need not have such massive time spans of longevity, etc. But ditto you still want those long games to feel like you're getting your money's worth.

Xenoblade XC was both a phenomenal game and one you could happily sink hundreds of hours into, as is Monster Hunter, as is plenty of games like it ... Ze;da is the only game I can think of that gives you that on the Switch, right up until we get that Xenoblade and a new Monster Hunter.
The fucking gall of releasing the MH as Japan only ... gah, it's like Capcom doesn't even want myu money that I'll simply have to rote learn Japanese text to play it ... That's not a massive hurdle, but it's an annoying one. Because Monster Hunter to me is one of those 'definitive' portable games. And a Monster Hunter on the Switch? I know some friends will make the jump for that alone, just for social gaming meet ups like local co-op before our pen and paper group starts.
I say give it a few more months. I honestly think it will be a stellar console, just make sure to buy a decent portable recharger as 4 hour battery life playing Zelda aint going to cover you on a plane trip or the like.
