Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. it was getting perfect scores everywhere, was really hyped up but when i got it, it wasn't that good. it was a good game but didn't deserve the 10/10 it was constantly getting. it was too easy, the sailing was auto-cannibalisticly monotonous and the cell shaded graphics weren't that great. way before it came out pictures were released of the next Zelda game and it looked amazing but the some pillock thought it would be a good idea to cell shade it. in short, no, in long, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Fallout 3.

Everything about it disappointed me, the enivorments although they looked fantastic were horribly cluttered. Npcs were lifeless, stat based clothing is ridiculous and lame in a fallout game. Storyline was absolutely horrible. Vats was clunky and the slo motion effect got incredibly annoying and old. The art design for the most part on characters was real bad. Facial animations were sub par, and the dialogue, which is a huge part of fallout, was incredibly bland and stale. Exploration was fun, 50s music was great although very limited size in terms of actual amount of songs used.

Terrible replay value
I came in here to say this.

Age of Empires III. Age of Empires is famously my favorite RTS franchise, but I no longer look at AoE II as part of that franchise. The part of my mind reserved for an AoE2 sequel is filled with Age of Mythology.

AoE III was almightily crap; no more historical accuracy. Crowded, tiny maps. Stupid new gameplay features like railroads and capture-able trade routes. Tribe interaction, hero units, game length. Stupid stupid stupid storyline. It was just honestly one of the worst games/let downs i've ever encountered.
Wow you are just terrible at life. Age of empires 3 was and still is a fantastic game. It missed the whole custom map scene that kept age2 alive for like 7 years but still age3 was very well put together.

I understand not likeing a game but saying age3 was the BIGGEST let down? Jesus L2P a bit man. There are maps without the rail road/trade interaction and you seriously played an age of empires game for the single player campaign? What? Seriously what? Thats Mirrors Edge for it's engaging Gun battles or Gears of Wars 2 for it's riveting story.

Mirror's Edge. Don't get me wrong, at this moment I'm playing it and loving it, but I think they put too much emphasis on combat. Besides that, I haven't really been that disappointed. Oh, wait, I forgot Halo 3.
You can get a achievement for not using combat at all you know? So it's possible. I'm getting it tomorrow and I'm going to try to evade every 'blue'.

Not quite - the achievement is for not shooting anyone. You can still knock them out in hand-to-hand if you need to. Easy extra 80 points for the first play through - do it on Easy mode, then when you go back through and play Hard you can shoot as much as you like. :)

Assassin's creed.
Don't promise Gold when you can only produce copper.
Still, climbing around was fun.

The last 10 minutes of the Fallout 3 main questline. I'm still pissed off at it.

Gears of War for PC. I haven't played it on 360 prior, so I didn't know what to expect, and boy did I get buried in crap.

The biggest let down? Half Life 2 and it's sequels. Everyone I seem to know was telling me how it was the greatest fucking game ever and I played it and it was meh. It wasn't awful, it was just meh. I was expecting it to be amazing as my friends said it was and I played it and was like, oh. It's okay.
Really? I thought I was the only one. Honestly, I haven't met a single person who agrees with me when I say HL2 was overrated.

Other than that, DoW: Soulstorm and Spore were massive dissapointments.
Thank the baby Jesus I'm not alone! What killed it for you? Did you even finish the game? I didn't. I got as far as the zombie place before getting fed uninterested in it. For me, the lack of skippable cutscenes which left me to run around with my dick in my hands, wait for everyone to shut the fuck up and let me do something. Then the physics puzzles would bring a sudden halt to any fun I had shooting things, as was Gordon Freeman controlling turrets and watercraft with his mind.

Mass Effect:

1. I was hyped for this game like no other before.
2. It's not the storytelling, but rather the story...
3. ... which I get the feeling was made at the expense of gameplay. Because it didn't play very well!

Pokemon Diamond on DS. I loved Red, but f*ck me sideways if this gets repetitive now that I'm 22 and no longer 13.

Oh screw Pokemon, I swear that has to be the worst crap I've ever seen. I'm 22 as well, and was pretty much exposed to Pokemon at a time where even people who were 12-13 were going apeshit over it. I never liked it. It's essentially a TV show that tries to make you believe any kind of animal life form will simply allow itself to be enslaved and used for what is essentially seizure inducing cock fights.

I played through the original game (I believe it was red). I basically rushed through the single player game as fast as possible because I really found it pretty bland. While I was playing the game I never recalled any singled moments where I was enjoying myself. In fact I clearly remember being really really annoyed at the random Pokemon battles.

In the show the only Pokemon who is treated with any sort of equality and respect is Pikachu, the other Pokemon hang around in some tiny ball for their entire existence.

Hmm. I guess I was disappointed with the obvious ones, Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed, the latter because of its short story and incredibly anticlimactic final set piece and the former because of its...erm...short story and incredibly anticlimactic final set piece. Ho hum.

I was let down by Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 slightly. Don't get me wrong, I loved the games and I'm a big MGS fan, but MGS2, after the initial "aargh!" moment that was Raiden, did feel a bit clunky and slow in places, like when you had to rescue Otacon's sister (I can't for the life of me remember what she was called) and in MGS3, I guess it was the greenery that I drowned in for the first few hours (lit. the whole damn entire game) although I guess I can say I got used to it by the end.

I finished it, but only because my friends said i couldn't criticize the game unless I finished it. I dunno what killed it for me, I didn't really get into the story, which may have been part of it. Mostly though, it just felt like Halo to me. A competent but unremarkable alien shooter, I wouldn't call it a bad game, but I was expecting more from it, since the gaming community had unanimously declared it "the greatest game that ever has or will be released". Normally this kind of hype is balanced out by people saying the game is rubbish, for titles like Halo or SSBB, but nobody EVER criticizes HL2.

I'd started to think that maybe there was something wrong with me, but now SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME! WOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Killzone 1 - it was hyped as a Halo-killer and was terrible, Im not getting any hopes up for Killzone 2, especially after Resistance 2.

Mirror's Edge would have been a disappointment if I had had any expectations. Now it was just a game that TO ME was the epitome of failure. But I will concede that the time attack mode probably is a whole load of fun if you like that kind of thing. I don't, but that's just me. I'm also quite sure the game won't let you avoid combat entirely - can't picture getting through the server room without it. But good luck!

Disappointments that no one has mentioned yet in this thread, though... Neverwinter Nights 1 sure was one to me. As was God of War 2 - more polish doesn't matter when you take away character and motivation while not adding more than a few new enemies.
And Monkey Island 4. Need I say more?
