Borderlands. After spending so much time on the forums and listening to all the lies (didn't know they were lies at the time) the game was a serious letdown.

KoTor 2

It was so damn buggy and the ending was incredibly stupid. I expected it be be on par with or even surpass the first game but I was wrong, so so wrong.

Final Fantasy 8.

No, you are NOT fun. Stop trying to be a game when you're not fun.

Does the Dirty Harry game count. Saw the E3 2006 (I think) trailer and thought that could easily be the best game ever, then it disappeared forever. I think that counts as disappointing.
Was expecting much more from the new MoH, not God like status, but I thought I'd have a fun multiplayer game for a week atleast *shudders at appalling multiplayer"

Disciples III - Slower. World map travel suddenly restricted to paths. Unclickable towns. I'm not going to complain about the AI because I don't see much difference from Rise of the Elves. The whole setup of campaign is dumb. ei. it's worthless to make another hero because it takes experience away from the 'campaign hero' and your purchased hero can't move the story at all. Go ahead past that guy that won't let 'campaign hero' ahead and clear everything with your purchase hero, then suddenly 'campaign hero' can't go yet until he kills already dead stuff. Just poorly done overall. Disciples fans waited a good amount of time for this, what a let down.

Bit more obscured game... 'Red Baron' for the PS2, a WW1 flight simulator.

Looked better on the box then the game itself; You couldn't land, no checkpoints in long missions, dumb AI or none at all... And my biggest complaint: Only 2 maps, countryside and desert enviroment.

Developer was Davilex, I should've known.

The incredibly awful C&C 4.
And I used to love the C&C games in general an Kane in particular, what a rotten way for a franchise to die.

Spore, or Prototype. Spore had AMAZING potential, i bought it the second it came out, played it for a few hours and realised: "This is a game about scrolling out..." Seriously. If you have it and haven't noticed this, play again and think about it. The camera just zooms out everytime you move from stage to stage. That's it. Plus it was massively dumbed down.

Prototype was dissapointing because as Yahtzee said, copy and pasting google maps doesn't count as a sandbox. Plus, you can kill everything in a few hits and then hiding using the whip.

Both games had such great potential but were let down by what i think were lazy designers who, when they saw they were being raved about, laid back and decided to coast.

Oh yeah. And the space stage of spore? It was so bad they brought out the Space Adventure expansions. Which was so half heartedly attempted that they ended up just going "Meh... make your own damn adventures...". That should be an option and not feel like you have to do it to make the game interesting.
