[HEADING=1]= LET US GO FORWARD TOGETHER! =[/HEADING]

[link]http://www.pcgamer.com/company-of-heroes-2-the-british-forces-announced/[/link]

According to Relic, the British will feature a "unique tech-tree that challenges the player to balance the constant trade-off between mobility and defense." It will, they say, essentially provide two factions in one - letting the player customise their development in a bid to surprise their opponent. There'll also be eight new maps.

As with previous CoH2 expansions, The British Forces will be a standalone expansion. It'll be available from September 3, and cost £10.
Well, it's finally been announced that the British are coming as a new faction to Company Of Heroes 2. I see gliders, which presumably means commando spam! Are you hyped for this, Escapists? Will you be doing your part and gamely springing the ten quid for king and country?

UPDATE: We've got our first developer videos rolling out as of a few days ago. Here's one on turning history into gameplay:

This video concerns the three variants of the Churchill tank:

This video concerns the sniper, armed with a "Boys" AT rifle.

As long as there are Tetrarch tanks (<3 Cupcake) for the inevitable Commando Commander I am all good with the Tommies. I also hope that a certain Duffy makes a return in the British squads.

I'm hoping for some Canadian commanders as well, because much as I'd like a full Canadian tech tree, it would only be a hybrid of UK/USA forces anyways.

It's great that Relic is still able to continue patching and supporting their games years after release. They do seem to be making a comeback after the THQ implosion.

Tally ho!

Truth told, I'd be much more impressed if the British brought their Sopwith Camels. ;) Where are the WWI games? Bring 'em on! I'd happily plop $60 on the counter for one of those. We're long overdue for an HD remake of Red Baron.

About time we had a game with the British, there's so many WWII games based on the US it's kind of crazy. Seen the battle of Pearl Harbour more times than I care to count.

Time for a stiff upper lip, a tin of Spam and bloody good rolly before a game of football with the Krauts at Christmas.

Weeeeell, there's not a great deal you can do to sex up trench warfare, but Verdun looks pretty good and War Thunder's got quite an admirable little retinue of biplanes to its name. You should give it a go; it's the most stunning free MMO I've ever seen and gliding a torpedo bomber into an aircraft carrier's deck (and bouncing, missing and exploding) is a thing of joy.

Don't forget the joy of making the Stuka noise alongside the Ju-87's signature scream.

Oh? Lord Flashheart disagrees. ;)

I'll be sure to look into those games you recommended though! Do you know how long I've waited for a good WWI dogfighting game? I spent an immeasurable amount of time playing Red Baron, right up to the day that I couldn't run it on newer machines.

I may have to break down and finally get CoH... you've been dropping hints left and right that I'd enjoy it but this kind of puts the definitive nail in the coffin of my resistance.

You can get both Red Baron games on Gog that will run on current machines. http://www.gog.com/game/red_baron_pack . Personally I never got into Red Baron 2. I have no idea why but it didn't work for me

I totally would if I wouldn't suck donkeynuts at strategy games these days. I tried playing Company of Heroes 1/2 a while back when I bought a pack, but oh my God I sucked at it. I can't imagine ever doing even slightly well in multiplayer.

I was interested when I first saw it, but then I noticed it was multiplayer only. Lost all interest.
So, I won't be buying it. I mean, I don't have much money anyway, but there's not even the slightest temptation to buy a multiplayer-only addon.

Second one's a bit easier than the first. Hogs the CPU a bit unless you change the recording file to read-only and muck with some other stuff, though.

There might be another campaign like they did for the US forces, but no word on that as of yet. Which cartoon horse is that one?

Ever played The Red Ace or Red Ace Squadron?

But yeah, we've seen far too many US-based WWII games. Perhaps something about the Battle of Britain, or maybe a game set in one of the countries that were conquered, such as Poland, France, Denmark, or the Netherlands would blow some new life into the setting.

If you'd believe Hasbro would sink so low, this one is called "Tree Hugger".
And I'll keep an eye out for a British campaign, but I won't get my hopes up.

The British can't be coming, they are far to stuffy and uptight about the subject of sexual intercourse to do that. xD

On a side note, why is it such a thing in British pop culture to act so insanely flustered/embarrassed when the subject of sex comes up? I can't count the number of books/movies/tv shows I've seen, where barely mentioning the subject, or even hinting at it, cause whatever British character who hears it, to completely lose their composure. And start coughing and fidgeting and saying things like "Yes, well, right then." etc etc. Terry Pratchett was like this in his books, most notably with Vimes, but plenty of other characters reacted the same way. I also remember it in things like Monty Python.

I've updated the OP since the devs have released two new videos about the upcoming faction.

I've been meaning to ask, what resemblance to cupcakes to Tetrarch tanks supposedly bear? :/

Yes, the pricing system they're using has caused its fair share of disquiet, but it's good to see a game getting continual attention. Speaking of which, they've gone and changed the splash-screen title font again. I did notice a Steam community thread (now deleted) that showed some leaked British commander portraits, but none of them appeared Canadian by picture alone, IIRC. I must say, it warmed my heart to see the trusty old Brodie helmet.

Absolutely none. It was a running joke in the higher tiers of CoH play (which I was tangentially involvedin for a while) mostly. Someone felt the Tetrarch was so tiny and cute that they called it the cupcake during a commentary on a game they ran and it stuck. Hence why the short-lived tactic of getting loads of Tetrarchs was called Cupcake Spam.

To this day I find the Tetrarch to be a cute tank. A tank you just want to cuddle up to and... Yes, cute tank = cupcake. Crystal, right?

Any tank that can fit in a glider is pretty cute to me. It makes me smile and say "Awwwww..." when I see it trundling out of the front of a glider like Brum [https://media.ents24network.com/image/000/027/596/e8ea3504ad52f829b1641fd28c13bb17ac08dad3.jpg] with crappy tracks.

I remember some cute little tank that could launch rockets in the original game, on the German side, thought I can't recall its name. It's a shame the zippy lil' Russian T-70 seems pretty much obsolete in the late game, since it's adorable when the little commander is poking his head out of the hatch with a pair of binoculars.
