The burger, the greatness thereof, and how to perfect them.

I guess my favorite burger with be with cheese (probably swiss or cheddar), bacon, mushrooms, and a perfectly cooked over medium egg to top it off.


I can't believe you forgot gyro meat. The gyro-cheeseburger is just amazing.

Eggs are amazing in burgers, though I don't really like mixing mustard or sauce with the egg, so the burger tends to feel a little dry.

Also, how have I never had a burger with gyro meat? I need to find a place capable of making such a thing.

Ha, where I live, there's gyro fast food restaurants all over the place. Most of them have burgers that are just OK, but this one gyro place I went to (sorta a hole-in-the-wall place, they had a arcade machine with Quiz & Dragons lol) the burger was divine.

Mayo in a burger? I'm an open minded fellow, but that sounds downright heretical, I might be wrong, but the condiments that can be added to a burger is Ketchup, BBQ sauce, garlic sauce of some kind, mustard, and cheese based sauces/dips. Mayo makes it seem more like a sandwich than anything else.
But being a student of the burger I'd love to hear what Mayo adds to the experience/taste.

Are there dishes that won't be improved by the addition of blue cheese? I once tried a burger with thinly sliced baked sweet potato and blue cheese, and it was glorious.

I wouldn't want it in my porridge, but blue cheese can add a glorious punch to a lot of things. Put a wedge on a steak, or chuck it into your risotto at the last moment to melt in. Blue cheese with crackers and a cut up apple is pretty great too. There are lots of things you can do with it.

Ain't never heard an objection to mayo unless somebody just didn't like mayo, it's on all the fast food burgers here. In any case, mayo has a mildness that pairs well with the darkness of beef. I wouldn't use it in combination with any other sauce, but I personally consider it essential that a burger has some sort of additional moisturizer. This can come in the form of BBQ sauce, 3 or 4 slices of melted cheese, an avocado (or guacamole) spread, condiment, etc. Mayo is a pretty good default condiment for how mild tasting it is, so it pairs well with a lot, but I wouldn't use it in combination with other moisturizers. Burger with bacon, cheddar, and egg benefits a great deal from slathering some mayo at the bottom.

(Also wouldn't mix mayo with mushrooms, I find that it tends to clash a bit)
