The Butt Of Your Jokes

I've noticed that here in America, we tend to make the South the butt of a lot of our jokes, like in T.V (Family Guy, King of the Hill, The Simpsons) or when comedians are making jokes. So I was wondering,is there a region in your country that tends to get mocked and made fun of by the other regions of your country?

Just to clarify, when I say south I mean the sothern region of The United States (like Texas, Alabama, Missisippi, Louisiana, etc...)

In Mexico, here in the north we have the chilangos which refers to either people from the south or residents of the capital. I'm sure they have their names for us, too.

Being also American and living in New Jersey, i can assure you there's plenty of jokes to be made about this state, with the occasional ones about New York City, Boston, and Washington DC.

Also, i'm to understand the Welsh area of England has jokes about it involving cannibalism, but that's not anything i'd know from living there.

In Canada we have "Newfie jokes," people also tend to make fun of Québecers just like anyone else makes fun of french people (i.e. shall we have cheese or red wine with our threesome?) but the Newfie jokes are probably more common, though I haven't heard very much of either one.

(For anyone who doesn't know a thing about Canada, Newfies are people from the maritime province of Newfoundland, and it's said that they're just lonely because they're surrounded on three sides by water, and the last, by Québec.)

Well, speaking as someone from Texas, we tend to make fun of 'the damn yankees,' as well as people from Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana. And, of course, we always say "Thank God for Mississippi; they're the one state that makes our education system look good." But yeah, we're the butt of a lot of jokes too.

If there's a group, religion, lifestyle, minority, region, and so forth there's going to be a joke about it. Country doesn't matter. It's a global phenomenon not in the least bit unique to any area. I've heard so many of the jokes it's kind of shrugged off.

That aside, everywhere has a joke made of it at some point. Here in Queensland we make fun of Victoria and Tasmania, Sydney probably makes fun of us, and all of Australia makes fun of the US, New Zealand and a variety of other places.

Ha! New Jersey. America's armpit. I'm pretty sure that's what they call it. I think that of the Northeastern states New Jersey catches the most shit. But that's nothing compared to the rest of the country. What's up with the Midwest? That's right, nothing! And the South, well I'm sure you all know about the South. And California, don't get me started on California.

Of course New York is the best state ever. Unfortunately I had to live the first three years of my life in the suburbs of New Jersey, but for your information I was proudly born in Manhattan.

But actually, I don't hate New Jersey, all my making fun of it is in good sport. As I said I lived there, my grandpa lives there, and Jon Stewart is from there. And it's close enough to NYC that some of its awesomeness must have rubbed off. So New Jersey's cool with me. Not like the South though. Oh man, the South...
