Sigh.
I can understand turning down the pressing of said button for moral reasons, human life has great value to some.
But those who simply fear that somebody in particular would fall victim... six billion to one is good odds of it not happening.

Think about it.
Maybe five thousand people will die, but you've got a pretty nice house and filled it with furniture.
:\
Life was so much more enjoyable before I figured it out.

Nope, i know what would happen! The twilight zone rocks.
That episode was if you press the button once, and they specifically said someone you don't know, not someone random. It's all in the details.

Hey all. I have a little game i've stolen from another forum, here goes.

You have a button. Each press kills a random person on the earth, and awards you 100$.
You can push the button multiple times if you'd like. No one will ever know if you have pushed the button.

Would you do it?
Haha you have, of course, seen the eponymous twilight zone episode? You are assured that will not know the person who is killed. When the button is taken from you, you are only told it will be given to someone you 'do not know'.

oh and no, no button press.
That is ominous. If you push it, someone you don't know is dead... It is given to someone who doesn't know you... HOLD ON TO THAT THING! If it would only kill prisoners then I might chance it. Otherwise I lack the evil, the hate and am pulled down by a strong moral conscience and sense of compassion. I also don't like black magic very much.

For $100, there's no way I'm pressing the button. A human life is worth more than that.
no it isn't people are routinely killed for far far less. thats not even taking into account the sheer overabundance of them. a HUGE amount of problems could be solved with the sudden loss of a few billion people

Let's see, I can press a button ~160 a minute, so...
Yes. Til my fingers bled, or there were only one or two billion people left.
Cause really, I hate people. All people.

I'm not the one doing it though. To me, a life is worth more than $100. Maybe not to everyone, but to me, it is.

I second this motion.
Two reasons, one selfish and one selfless.

Selfish one: I'd be filthy rich!

Selfless one: We really need to reduce the number of humans on this planet.
We are simply too many.

Tap Tap Tap ad infinitum (almost).

That's all well and good in a cold logic kind of way until you or someone you care about is one of those few billion people. While tempting, I don't think genocide is necessarily the way to go to solve overpopulation. Unless perhaps for someone who thinks Hitler was on to something there.

Even if you don't know the person, someone does. It's likely whomever dies will have family/friends/people who love them. Does that not matter just because it's not "you" who gets someone they love taken away?

People are killed for way less than $100, that's true, but that should be a wake up call to how shitty we treat each other. How people can be such selfish assholes. Call me crazy, but I don't think other people being selfish assholes justifies me being a selfish asshole.

Spam the button. There are too many humans on Earth, and I'm going toward two of my goals: I'm helping the population problem and am getting a lot of money.

Wasn't this a movie with Cameron Diaz?

OT: Just $100? No way.
Yes, it was. The film was called, rather unimaginatively, 'The Box', and the sum was a million US dollars, I believe. And it was, I think, based on either a short story or based on a Twilight Zone epsiode which was itself based on the story. Not certain but I think it was Christopher Walken who played the guy who brought them the box with the button. That dude is a legend :D (I spent last night watching Sleepy Hollow, by the way).

And despite not having seen that film myself, I know enough about Hollywood to realise that the film didn't exactly have a happy ending. So no, I won't press the button. And when someone else presses it, hey, there's only a 1:6500000000 chance it'll be me who dies. So I'll be fine :D.

I would probably press the button until my cash hits about 2 billion, and then keep pressing it. Screw humaniterism, I want some money.
