Thats it, right there.
Probably because this site has a slightly more mature audience than the average CoD server. Smacktards don't survive long on the Escapist. It's only natural then, that most of us look down on CoD in favour of games with a less annoying playerbase.

But it's not just Americans. I find sometimes you'll get some guy who sounds like the chavviest of chavs on there swearing and insulting everything. I think it's just general ignorance.
I usually find that people from down south tend to make the most noise when they die.

It depends where you're from if you get in a game with someone from the UK the "COD" stereotype is much more common, I speak from experience. I haven't met anyone on cod that is nice as of yet, sometimes people start off nice, but when you open a can of woop ass they turn nasty.

It's always yankees who bring the stereotype out a millionfold. Here is a typical yank kid when I am talking to my friends.. *Ahem*

"Ohhhh my gaaaaaaaaaad, are you Britiiiiiiiiiiiiish!? Britiiiiiiiiiish!? British faggt!! Oh my gaaaaaaad, I fucking hate British people, hey, hey, we won Vietnam! We'd kick your ass! Oh my gadddddd, learn to talk ENGLISHHHHHHH"

*Gaaad - Americans never say 'God' for some reason, the OTT accent extends all normal words into something that sounds like nails on a chalkboard, this is also show in the words '******', 'British', Vietnam and more.

I'm from England... you know... the place where ENGLISH came from... that's why it is called *Ahem* ENGLISH!!! That quote I posted above was an actual 10 year old yankee kid, in a lobby full of his 10 year old yankee friends. Remember who trains your spec ops? Who has one of the best trained regular infantry on the planet? Who can speak proper English? I don't exactly need to carry this on now.

EDIT: I am agreeing with you, not disagreeing. :)

'It's not English, it's American! Who'd name a language after Britain? You haven't accomplished anything.'

(me)>'Well, we owned most of America at one point, in addition to large chunks of the world. We also manage to put up with the weather without going insane. That's quite an...'

'(Interrupts)... You never owned any of America! Your knowledge of history is frankly disgusting. That's why I hate you faggish Brits: you're so smug, yet you have nothing to be proud of. Our economy is better than yours, our history is more glorious, and our army is better trained than anything you've got in your entire military!'

>'We've got the Special Air Service, the Special Boat Service, Royal Marines and the Paras. And you honestly believe that the US Army is only bested in training by Your special forces? Your army is basically our army but bigger and better equipped. I'll gladly admit that your military is better than ours: the USMC is bigger than our entire army, so is your Navy, Air Force and Army. One thing I won't bow down to is you being an ignorant fuck about history, the military and languages. Oh, one more thing - English is the root language, American is effectively a dialect. Like you are speaking the dialect officially known as 'Americunt'.'

*MUTE*

OT: Yeah, I've got nothing against any game community - just the idiots and AMerican Exceptionalists.

My personal stereotype for CoD players are try-hards who seem to think so highly of themselves they cant go negative in a match without cursing you out and dashboarding. I am a 15th prestige and i regret having played that game more then the 5 years I did on WoW.

So, I'm pretty sure we all know the stereotype of the CoD community, it is a 12 year old that often talks shit but can't back it up, who needs his balls to drop.
But, over all my time playing CoD, I haven't run into many of these children, maybe like, a few a day, most of the time I run into adults or teenagers that aren't that annoying.
I'm wondering if my experience is the isolated indecent, or just that people love to hate on Call of Duty (especially this site.)
You've got a PS3 right?, up until recently the price of the PS3 stopped teens on pocket money buying into it, hence the PSN tends to be populated by adults including our CoD community, WarHawk was well known for being a "Daddy Shooter".

If you watch videos of "ThePro" (that hardcore Moderator) banning kids on youtube, its on Xbox.

But in essence your right, the kids are there but they are far and few between, also since the rise of the Machinima guys such as SeaNanners, Hutch and Tjeb they seem to have done a great job in teaching people how to conduct themselves online.

Generally most online communities aren't too bad, but the problem is that the annoying people are the ones who are the most vocal.

False sense of superiority much?

The CoD fanbase is too broad to be accurately pinned down with any one characteristic. You will run into every kind of personality out there if you play long enough. So to label them as "less mature" is about as accurate as when "normal people" label us with the "gamer" stereotype.

When I played mw2 for a short time, (I bought it at a lowered price for the campaign and played it online with friends and when bored) there were tons of them, including hilarious incidents such as a kid saying "I'm gonna lagswitch you all and then you're gonna LAAAAG!" and a douchebag making derogatory comments about some of our low ranks (this being just when we started playing) and when we beat him we sung the lyrics from green day's "homecoming" "nobody likes you, everyone left you, they're all out without you, having fun" over his insults, which made him ragequit. Generally more funny than annoying.

In every other cod i've played, people rarely have mics, even in zombie modes, though I've gotta say, most people who do have mics seem to either be playing music loudly or actually pretty alright people. I just mute the minorities who I don't wanna hear.

I played CoD plenty. Far more than I probably should have.

And with the exception of the R&P forum, my experience has consistently been that CoD players are arrogant, entitled jerkwads while, with a few exceptions, my experience with this community has generally been pleasant.

Wave your theoretical "it's too broad" as much as you like... that don't trump experience.

COD has the widest community in gaming as well as being a very aggressive and sometimes frustrating game.

So you're bound to find a few douchebags, or people who have just had the worst brought out in them by the game.

I've played MW2 and BLOPS both on the PS3 and PC, and finding someone with a mic is a pretty rare occurrence for me. Hell, i'm always a little surprised every time i hear someone talking over the mic and then its mostly just a group of people from a clan or something talking together.

EDIT:
Lawyer105 said:
Have you encountered the some 18 million people who bought the game? if not, then any generalization you make from your experience with a handful of people is unfounded. Hell, even if you were to play with some 20.000-30.000 other players and all of them were loud-mouthed assholes, you would still only have encountered less than 2% of the game's entire user-base.

I've had my fair share too, even though I very RARELY play, my 12 year old brother does! He has the bad habit of swearing and seems to think jokes involving AIDs are hilarious.

But the other people I hear...wow. I've heard kids throwing the C word around like it's nothing, racism and everything else.

And as for the Brits are worse than Americans comments, I've heard both people being just as bad. The British generally just swear a lot, and act like idiots, the Americans ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS bring up something about being British in every single insult.

Both type of people suck.

This site has a lot of CoD haters, and when a lot of people are hating one game in the same place, you tend to hear about it more.

It is an unfair stereotype, every game has it's fair share of people who just talk shit and annoy other people, it's just that CoD seems to have drawn the short straw, and is now cemented in this stereotype, when really, it's no worse than any other game.

I agree with someone earlier with the "false sense of superiority" comment. I am willing to bet that a good amount of people who reinforce this stereotype have barely played CoD, and just go along with other people to make themselves seem better than they really are.

Except that my experience with CoD on both Live and PSN says that the whole stereotype is grossly exaggerated. over 70% of the time no one even says anything. Thus it skews your experience, because the only time you do hear anything from the players is that obnoxious brat.

The intelligent types are usually quiet, because they're there to just play. No one hops on CoD to discuss politics, religion, or current events. They get on to play a game. Just like any/every other playerbase out there.

Yeah but generalisations suck. They aren't all like that, and its probably a minority considering how massive the COD playerbase is.
Also, keep in mind they aren't douchebags because they play CoD, they're douchebags because they ARE douchebags. Stick 'em on another game and they'd probably be the same.

Yup thats how things are everyone thinks cod players are 12 year old who scream in mic, suprisingly there more adults playing cod than other games in general mainly due to its popularity and simple gameplay

All sites have alot of cod haters but like another user said this sense of "false superiority" is annoying, especially since most of them have not played more than 1-2 cod games and think they all like that, take black ops for example is very balanced as opossed to mw2.

Personally i believe most people hate that cod is a game of fast paced reflexes that someone who plays for long can pwn alone and you dont have to rely on teammates to do it for you.

and if you pwn them.... "you are cheating"

:( whatever....

EVERYONE plays CoD. You shouldn't be shocked when you run into someone who isn't twelve.
