"What on earth is the Capcom effect Capn?" you might be saying - WELL; when a game you find extremely epic is hated by all; It's titled the Capcom effect in my books, due to both Monster Hunter and Lost Planet being part of this effect; You could probably call it the Koei effect If you so wished...
ANYWAY; I finished Lost Planet 2 last night, absolutely loved it! Gonna play through on extreme and go for 1000 (Even though one of the achievements requires you to be ranked 1st on the multiplayer rankings)

I'm sure this has been discussed a million times on this forum, but it's fresh in my mind right now.
What games do you love that get such flak from everyone?

Tenchu Z
Dynasty/Samurai/Orochi
Monster Hunter
And Lost Planet are my top series/games that get flak.

Capcom does alot of things annoyingly. I judge each game based on it's own merits, not on the company that makes them, but that said I haven't been compelled to actually buy a Capcom game in years. Lost planet 2 was the last one I rented, and it was disappointing by my standards.

ANYWAYS, back to that actual question. I LOVE GTA4, I think it's possibly the best open world game ever built and I was amazed by how much I got into the experience. Most other people on the other hand, while giving it pretty good reviews, never gave it the respect I thought it deserved and prefer other open world games or older GTA titles (I didn't bother with the escort friend side-quests, I dunno if that makes a difference). I suppose it doesn't count though, but it was the best I could think of.

I don't think that's the Capcom effect. I figure the Capcom Effect would be a great game or series that gets exceptionally more stupid even if the core gameplay or mechanics improves technically in theory or innovates, the games are still shit. Most noticeably this happens to Megaman X and to some degree DMC. Or perhaps the Capcom effect is just where a great game has an extremely, extremely shitty sequel that's super shit because capcom does that a lot.
DMC and Megaman X did get pants...
But in retrospect, I enjoyed some of the Capcom sequels more than the originals, RE5, LP2, MH2, and Megaman network series got better.

I'm part of the population that disliked GTA4, didn't like the characters or the settings, as well as some of the mechanics.

Don't forget the ol' "Capcom Slap" in which is dedicated to some of their games (and even their acheivemnts) ridiculous difficulty.

THIS is the Capcom effect. Even though the Ace Attorney series hasn't declined too much in terms of quality, they refuse to change the formula (though they pretended to do so in the most recent one) and instead just keep pushing out more sequels. From what I understand, most of their series go the same route.

And since when does Monster Hunter get flak?

Dynasty, on the other hand, is bashed for valid reasons. It's a repetitive hack-and-slash with no variety. If you like it anyway, then good for you.

Monster Hunter seems to only get flak from a lot of people on here because Yahtzee gave it a negative review, and therefore it must be bad, right? /sarcasm, if you couldn't tell.

OT: I love Final Fantasy XIII, and there are a lot of haters for that game.
I've never seen Yahtzee review Monster Hunter, but I know alot of people turn the series down because it's either too difficult or long winded.

Yea, Dynasty proooobably deserves it, yet I'm addicted to the series like crack.
