They look like a bunch of dweebs to me. I'm already not looking forward to playing as them. I hope Valve will somehow make it possible to use the L4D1 survivors in 2. Bill ftw!

Also, have you guys seen this?

Well, I thought it was funny.

Nick is my new favorite survivor, he seems like a sleazy con man with an air of manufactured grace, the kind that one has for the purpose of manipulation, not because of personality or their character. Plus: Dude's got a pimp suit.

What about them is weird?
They just seem so different.
Well they should feel different. After all, the game takes place in a completely new setting.

Well, the first time I saw him, I thought he was the dumwit typical farmer boy. Wich I like. I really loved the fact that they had the stereotypes in the last one. ANd now they have even greater stereotypes. Wich to me is great. Especially the farmer kid =D

Different as in fake, or, for lack of a better word, stupid. Each L4D was unique, but looked like real people. The new ones just don't feel "right".

I'm sort of glad they decided to bring in new characters, don't get me wrong the original were fantastic and I love playing as them but I think it will be refreshing to see the apocalypse through a different group of survivors.

I live down south and these survivors look like people I see every day (excluding the con-man, I don't live near any casinos or anything like that).

I live in Alabama, and I've see people like that too. But they don't fit the game in my opinion.

I don't care for the new characters at all. I loved all of the old ones...

If you listen to the developer commentary on L4D, it tells you that the campaign is really a running campaign; when you get rescued by the helicopter at the end of No Mercy, the pilot originally said something like "Oh... I don't feel well after that last run..."

So... crash bang and whollop, you crash-land with him going all infected and have to make your way to the next rescue zone in Death Toll, and you get rescued by a boat. And when you get back to their base, the infected have destroyed everything! The captain gets killed and you escape into the next city, and you get to higher ground...

And then in Dead Air, you get to the airport. That pilot ends up infected, but in the last one, Blood Harvest, you actually do get out and into a fully secured military base. And that's when the L4D story ends for the 4 original characters.

They removed the story parts because the playtesters asked them to. If you think about it, with the story element on, unless you played through Blood Harvest everytime, it'd feel like you never actually "won", so to speak.

What I'm getting at is that, in the end, the four escape and live on in the military base. So, they're done now for good... or so it seems, at least. They said they were bringing back the old story telling way in L4D2, but I just don't care for the characters at all.

I don't care if the original four are "safe" as far as the L4D story goes; I want them to keep going on forever and ever! I love all the original characters, and hate the new ones.

(By the way, the story I told up there isn't the "official" story, I just made it up, but it was probably something like that.)

I dunno, I kind of like them. I think I'll play Ellis, he looks like the Scout, my favorite class from TF2.

I don't know. Have you ever move a book on a shelf, and it just looked weird to you ?
Yeah, I see what you are saying but I guess we will only see how these new survivors work out when L4D2 is released.

I think Valve has said it is possible that the original survivors might return in a later l4d game/update.

I think people have just become so attached to the old characters that they don't really want to let go. That was my reaction when I first saw the new ones as well. But I'm going to give them a chance. We'll probably end up liking them as much as the original four. Because I know I didn't care at all about the characters in L4D1 until I had played for a while and heard all the comments they like to make.

I like them. A Con Man? Cool. A Weather lady is okay (I think that's what Rochelle is), Coach reminds me of Uncle Phil from Bel Air, and the other guy... I don't know.

Really? It can't be that bad, it's not like he holds it like a wannabe ganster teenager.
Watch the beginning of this video.

The way I see it yeah it looks stupid but its not like I'm going to see it much, who uses a pistol instead of a perfectly fine Uzi or Shotgun. Worthy of note is you can still melee mid-reload, I thought they patched that in the PC version. I'm actually really surprised by that.

Just check this out:

If they are already considering this level of retrofitting and compatibility, I don't see why they couldn't have the Original Survivors as an option to play in the sequel's campaigns and multiplayer. Possibly, as an unlockable after completing it with the sequel Survivors. Plus, rumor has it, from the mouths of the developers, "you haven't seen the last of the the old team." But don't quote me on that.

Still, I like these characters. They seem like an even more diverse cast. The slippery Andy Garcia, the Southern black Christian/Coach, the reporter with a Depeche Mode t-shirt, and the...um...teenager with a baseball cap, I guess? We'll see.
