Absailing and the little clip thingy broke, if not for it catching on the rope I would have fallen on to some very bad ground.

So long ago I can't even remember the name of what broke.

This sort of thing has happend to me twice:

Once I on my 6th birthday that we celebrated in Spain, I got this Nessie-looking floating toy for two, after trying it with two, I tried it with just me in the pool that we had outside the apartment the entire fucking thing did a barrel roll, after getting up we punctured it and never spoke of it again

The other time I was riding my bicycle on a narrow pavement when things other guy suddenly came in the opposite way making me lose control of the bike and landed with my head out on the road, I could have gotten my entire head grinded into the road had it not been that the car speeding towards me managed to break and stop approximately one meter away from my face

Fall last year, my father and I were going fishing it was maybe 5-6AM so the roads were almost clear. We were talking and all of a sudden a truck that was coming from the other direction switched to our lane and went straight at us. It was one of those big ass monsters that would have cleared us off the road without slowing down much. We only survived because my dad turned right into grass and missed him by a few feet. When I turned around I saw him panicking, swerving and getting back on track. Crazy bastard was either drunk or fell asleep behind the wheel.

I don't know without being injured but there was a man in an alley that was holding a girl under fire and I tackled him. He shot me through the arm twice but I still managed to wrestle the gun from him and shoot him in the leg, then the girl called the police and the criminal got arrested. Worst day of my life.

Liquid Paradox said:
You ever drink until you pass out? A startling number of people do this regularily, and think nothing of it... but I know something that most people don't.

You see, passing out from alcohol use is a defense mechanism activated when the body decides that you have to stop drinking, right now... or you will die. And I don't mean, like, if you keep drinking for an hour. I mean you are literally one or two drinks away from the lethal dose of alcohol for your body mass.

The scary part is, that had you not passed out, you would almost certainly kept drinking. and if you had, you would have died. Not might have, but would have. When you pass out, your body is literally protecting you from yourself.

People who die from alcohol poisoning either drank their booze too fast for the body to react, or somehow managed to stay conscious. Not trying to be an advocate against binge-drinking here, I have my moments too, but the next time you think it might be a good idea to break out the beer bong... well..
See, if we can count this, i've passed out way too often. In fact, last time I ripped up my stomach lining and my throat while puking up too, and almost bled out. That was kinda horrible. Which is why i'm probably drinking next week. I'll never learn.

A more "I was awake and realised I might have died" scenario? I have a wonderful habit of getting jumped by people who have knives. Because I have an intense hatred for muggers and people who use knives, I have that "fuck you" reaction and start beating on them. I've narrowly missed the knive plunging into my stomach way to many times.

I hate this town.

Aside from the dozens of times I've almost become the victim of a roadkill?

I went skydiving once, and the parachute wouldn't open. But knowing pretty much next to nothing about skydiving at all, at the moment itself I had no idea that the hand of doom was tightening it's grip on me. Fortunately the instructor managed, after a lot of struggeling, to open the emergency-shute. I nearly pissed myself after he told me in what danger I was afterwards.

Also I almost died from a lung infection a couple years back. (the pain was terrible, makes me nautious every time I think about it)

These sort of experiences make you value your life more I guess.

...aside from the times I've been shot at... well, I nearly died of septic pneumonia at Ft. Knox, and there have been several times that people have nearly hit my poor little tin can of a car at better than 70Mph for lack of vehicle control.
Seriously, some of the people in the US who presumably have driver's licenses...

Not too exciting, but..
A good while ago I was walking along a road, just minding my own business. It'd been a pretty busy day after my girlfriend had just kinda ... dropped our relationship, it was all I could really think about. Walking across the road, this car almost hit me - in the moment it was about to I practically leaped out of the way, god knows how I leaped that distance in less than a second. It was going so fast that I almost fell backwards when it passed!

EDIT: Another time was when I was sick, like really sick - I was drowsy and lacked all focus. I'd stayed the night at a friend's house without my antihistamine and had developed some kind of flu by the morning. It was all just too much and I was asleep for most of the trip back home, then when I got into bed I could barely move. Body was heavy, eyes felt sewn shut, pretty much the moment I stopped thinking about things I'd fall asleep and, usually, be treated to some nightmares. Fuck I was scared, barely had anything to eat that day, but the next day I was ... pretty much fine. 0.o'

Also, in a recent trip to Bali I was plugging my laptop into a power point adapter. The damn thing was actually on so, when I plugged it in, bright blue sparks danced around the metal and I, holding the point by the end, right next to said metal and at the end of the plastic, practically shat myself when I realised I could've just gotten electrocuted. Especially considering how I'm usually so careful when it comes to that kind of stuff. D:

I was epileptic as a child and used to have alot of "Absences" which are basically small fits where you stare into space and just keep repeating the same motion.

Sadly, this was often "walking in a straight line accross a busy road".

Father threw a pebble at me, if I hadn't dodged, I don't know what might have happen to me. Either I'd be dead or have some mental problems. He threw it pretty hard actually, took a chunk of brick wall behind me.

I stepped out on to a street in a city I didn't know. Didn't realise it was a one way street and was so close to being hit by a bus that I was able to push myself back from the road using the side the of the bus.

Also I tried climbing some rocks and got halfway up before realizing I couldn't climb as well as I could when I was younger. Below were more rocks and the ocean. No one was around. I managed to get back down but I've never forgotten how close I was to death that day.

And three car accidents and a crossing train tracks in front of a train when I was young and stupid. None of them seemed that dangerous to me at the time but all could have been fatal if I hadn't have been lucky with what I missed.
