A game of my own invention called Death Cricket, which is like regular cricket but the bats fire lasers, the ball explodes on contact with cloth, leather or metal (which the stumps would be made of) and if a six is scored one of the fielders has a limb chopped off, but must still play. Also if the match got a little boring, lions or floor-mounted flamethrowers would be deployed to liven it up.

1v1 Death-Row fights. Why the hell not, I'm part barbarian at heart and we've already consigned these folk to death anyway, why the hell not let them fight it out on a field of glory (and blood). Humanitarian? Fuck that noise, let it be voluntary either you get the needle, the chair or the Colosseum. The winner gets a stay of execution but no parole and can choose to defend his title or retire to a solitary confinement.
This is assuming that in this Empire there are no appeals and lawyers have all been beheaded, shot, drawn and quartered, burned at the stake, etc.

Chav fights. Any time a drunk person is disorderly, they are taken to the colliseum to fight to the death. All money generatedas a result of ticket sales will go towards the police force. This will ensure not only less srunken thugs on the streets but also entertainment for the masses and a better funded police force.

Come to think of it, I'd just chuck most criminals in there.

Well, if we combined that with the launch site idea, we could have something like the Enclave's mobile base crawler. Hmmm...that could rain down a lot of orbital trouble on a lot of rebels at once...

We do seem to be getting a lot of military suggestions. Oh well, it may not be a centre for the appreciation of the fine arts, but a purpose is a purpose.

EDIT: If It could be for ANYTHING (even the impossible), though, I'd make it for virtual combat (to prevent actual fatalities) of many kinds, including Unreal Tournament style games, and medieval/magic style combat and dragon taming battles and- *goes on for a half hour*
