this is an unhealthy habit among gamers i think needs to stop, along with a lot of another things but this mostly
i speak of the unnecessary comparison of one game to another, were a person will shun a game because it does not do something
like another game they have liked and dub better than all others in its category.

i bring this up because in recent days a myth seems to have spread that God of War is the is all end all of hack and slash games,
and that any other game that even dares to venture its territory is nothing more than a rip of because what i had failed to realize was that
god of war was the first hack and slash ever and is a totally original idea (sarcastic laughter fenarr fenarr)

but i seem to be getting of topic here, and its not just god of war that has now become a bar to witch all games must reach or die trying, but
its thing like halo or modern warfare 2 being a bar for the FPS to strive towards, final fantasy being the pinnacle of RPG games, grand theft auto being the sandbox role model, these are just a few examples but you get the general point,
now while it is good times for all when a game that truly does stand out from others appears on the market, i do not then think it should
be used as a comparison for other games of that kind, because there is know such thing as an original game idea now a-days, every idea has been done, and probably done better to boot.
the point of this being is that while we should view all games as a singular thing, when a game is great, we leave it at that, when a game is bad, same thing, and scrap this whole "my game is better than your game for these reasons" business, because its not leading anywhere fast or good, it just creates arguments and overly pointless wars between gamers.

but am i just being naive in thinking this, personally i believe the eradication of comparison amongst most things would lead to a lot more happy people, i men its all the same, its the little differences that should be recognized and enjoyed, but again i do not know

i mean tell me what you think ?

I would have to say, that this, one again, depends upon personal taste.

I Hate god of war, but love devil may cry. I thought that Devil May Cry was THE best, then came Devil may cry 3. Every once in a while, a game will arrive that will up the ante.

Comparison gives us the ability to filter out the worser games when we have so much choice in the genre. I mean comparing recent games to the first time you played an epic game in a previos generation does not work, FF 3 was pretty epic but comparing it to modern FF games it's not as good, only nostalgia and memories gives it special treatment.

Oh and all ideas have been done? No original games? Check this out, you must have seen it at some point. I think it's pretty original but I could be wrong.

"God of War is the be all and end all of hack and slash games." Or at least that's what I think you're getting at.

I think really comparisons can just get idiotic, like with the whole Pocahontas/Ferngully/Dances with wolves and Avatar thing. It really isn't an issue if the game has some old elements but it should really bring enough new things to the table to be considered good.

I hate it when there is say a game for the PS2, then companies decide to make a similar game for entirely different systems, and people soend the entire review bitching about it.

If I play a good but short game, and really love the game mechanics but there isn't much rplay value, don't I want to play more of that game? In the form of sequels or imitators, especiallly if they improve upon it.

Comparing games from different genres is unhealthy but comparison of say FPS to FPS helps us filter out the crap. You also can't really compare small scale indie games to big budget titles. A sentace like "MW2 is far better than Plants Vs. Zombies" is nonesensical. It's like saying a HVDT is better than a toaster. Sometimes you just want toast.
I always want toast.
I agree, this is why DiRT 2 can not be measured as better than Bad Company 2.

(I'm playing both.)
(Both are awesome.)
(and better than HAWX lolol)

It's fine to compare. If there was something about a game that you felt another game did better, feel free to play the other game. That said, one should play the game before comparing, lest they become a fanboy.

Comparisons are innevitable. What people need to stop doing is going for the absolute extremes, meaning, that by loving one game, they now automatically despise another and everyone associated with it.
