Yeah but the qualities and characteristics of wines and spirits are dependant on where you grow the fruit and wheat you make it from. For Champagne it has to be from that part of France because the fields there gives it, supposedly, a unique flavour.

But a pasty is basically any old sheep boiled down with some stock and potatoes and rammed into pastry. It'd be like saying a danish could only come from Denmark.

Now that I have heard of a Cornish pasty, I am shocked and apalled by the lack of them in the United States. The closest widely available thing we have is calzone and Hostess Fruit Pies. For shame, Uncle Sam! I demand we steal invent more of them at once.

I think you're confusing the Cornish pasty with Haggis, because no amount of boiling or rendering will produce beef from a sheep.

A Cornish pasty is pastry filled with chunks of fresh beef, potato, onion and swede that is baked (from raw).

Actually, the closest thing you have to the Cornish pasty is the pasty, like the ones served at the annual Pasty Fest in Calumet, Michigan, held every July.

Oops, my mistake. My local bakery does their own 'Grayshot' Pasty which is made from mince lamb cooked up with gravy before being baked.

So:

You're saying I have wait until July to and go to Michigan to reliably find a pasty in this country? My point is firm, sir!

No, it makes sense to me, and it's not the first time this has happened either (Champagne, Melton Mowberry Pork Pies etc). Know you know your pasty wasn't just made in a warehouse in Swindon, it was made in a warehouse in Cornwall.

Makes all the difference.
