My rationale at this point is that he most likely died due to prison conditions and they said he committed suicide to cover themselves or he really did just commit suicide. The problem is Mcafee is that he was a very vocal self-aware lunatic that had burned every bridge he had long ago and pissed off every country that was willing to take bribes to overlook his nonsense. If someone killed him I doubt it was "because of what he knows" and more likely revenge which is equally uninteresting to me as the previous two possibilities.
