Writing Wise:

Courage the Cowardly Dog: The Great Fusilli

This episode isn't creepy in it's art design or at first glance. It's that ending and one of the darkest implications I've seen a television show have. EVER.

Courage the Cowardly Dog: Freaky Fred

I don't need to explain this one to you. You know him by now.

Courage the Cowardly Dog: The Mask

Truly an episode of art. The imagery sells this episode so much but I think the writing is better. It's dealing with hard themes and takes on a very scary look. It's makes one of the best villains in an animated television show and so on. The best episode of the whole damn show and one of the scariest episodes for children I've ever seen.

Adventure Time: The Lich

The thing that made me write this in the first place.

1) Fuck you Ron Pearlman and your deep seductive yet terrifying voice.

2) The darkest episode of Adventure Time ever made and the only time a character has been killed off that didn't already start out dead.

3) THE FUCKING IMAGERY IN THIS EPISODE. And that Lich/Billy abomination. FUCK.

4) The second best episode of Adventure Time ever made (I remember you takes the cake and will NEVER be dethroned), and it's just excellent.

Image Wise:

Avatar The Last Airbender: http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Koh?file=Koh.png

The creepiest character ever devised by Avatar. Even more than that episode that introduced blood bending.

Adventure Time: http://adventuretime.wikia.com/wiki/The_Lich_(character)?file=S4e26_face_-_half_Lich_half_Billy.png

Just fucking look at it...

Teen Titans: http://teentitans.wikia.com/wiki/The_End_-_Part_2?file=Sladenomask.jpg

This may seem tame now, but as a kid this permanently scared me. It's my first exposure to death in film and god damn was it a way to start. I hold Teen Titans near and dear to me and this reveal is also included.

ALSO, ten years later and Ron Pearlman is still fucking scaring me with his voice. God damn it...

Courage the Cowardly Dog: http://courage.wikia.com/wiki/Perfect?file=Perfect-5m-40s.jpg

If there's one thing Courage understood, it was that if you want to scare people using you aesthetic it's by using a different animation technique like 3d Animation. The image is fucked all by it's self. But the music and the context is what really made it memorable.

Anywho:

The Darkest and Scariest in a children's film?

Tell me what you think in the comments below.

The Splund:

Surprisingly creepy claymation. As an aside, GW's Tzeentchian daemons were originally a lot like that guy.

Mårran. Just... Mårran.

Or The Groke, as she's called in English. She scared the **** out of all the little Swedish TV-watching kids.

No, I won't include a picture. All the trigger warnings in the world would't be enough.

The old Moomin anime that used to air on Swedish TV.

Adventure Time is ostensibly a kid's show yet in the past few years or so, has developed some very disturbing imagery.

For instance, when we find out about the in-show back story, like the episodes dealing with the Lich.

Then there's what happened to Simon Petrikov aka the Ice King. Wandering a postapocalyptic wasteland while slowly loosing your mind? Not fun. And Tom Kenny's performance just sells it for me...

You see, I don't find what happened to the Ice King scary.

Depressing and Tragic, but not scary...

I remember jumping out of my seat and turning the TV off if I knew it was coming.

How many other children's TV shows had scenes that were banned in many countries because they were too scary?
Teletubies NEVER scared me as a kid. With all of it's weird ass imagery...

I see your Teletubbies and raise you Boohbah:

Helps if you first see it at 3 in the morning when you wake up and can't get back to sleep and see what's on TV.

Anyone here remember an old show called... uh... Candle Cove?

There are so many screwed-up-beyond-repair moments in Spongebob that I'm surprised I can watch the show as an adult.

I just remember watching an episode where Spongebob gets a sliver that Patrick makes worse by applying garbage to it, which makes it infect and swell, and it ends with the biggest pus explosion you can manage. I had an ingrown toenail at the time, which just made it even worse.

You might say "That's just gross, not scary", but YOU try being a kid with an excessively active imagination and can't quite tell truth from fiction.

That episode is the Splinter, and it's one of the most hated episodes of Spongebob ever made. The writing after Season 4 has been. Well, it's been shit, and disturbing...

Edit:
Pretty much what it says on the tin. Headmaster is a demon and hypnotises kids. Its got a touch of pink floyds brick in the wall

I think this was pretty big globally so most people should know of it

Edit:
These all followed the same format. Kid get told off for something...doesnt listen...monster takes him away...parents live a carefree life. Its typically british and after watching the video as a 21 year old its not too scary but as a 7 year old it was terrifying and I always ate my pasta after watching this

I grew up on 90s british kids TV. You guys do not know the meaning of the word creepy. Yes all of these were legitimate 90s kids TV and they were genuinely terrifying

You're right, that is the most fucked thing I've seen in an animated children's film yet. I expect it to be one upped in the same thread very soon...

You can pretty much say Ren and Stimpy in general was pretty messed up... the originally unaired "Man's Best Friend" episode where Ren beat some one with a oar.. the episode that had the happy happy joy joy song where Ren is hitting himself in the head with a hammer.. the list goes on.. most of the Courage the Cowardly Dog show episodes were pretty messed up to.. but the most f up show is Invader Zim. specifically the episode "Dark Harvest" where Zim steal various organs from kids in school so he won't fail a physical... the episode is really messed up in general, but the worst is when Dib finds Zim with all of the organs in him and he's all fat and has so many intestines that they're pouring out of his mouth so he's shoving therm back inside.. that's.. really messed up.. just watch the episode on youtube and tell em it's not f*#ked up... i included a link to the episode on Youtube, so i suggest you watch it

Oh, my, let me show you my childhood:

Digimon Tamers was probably one of my favorite shows growing up. It was basically Evangelion for children. Keep in mind I was still in grade school at the time. A character gets brutally murdered by a former friend? Check. A little girl loses her mother, then has to deal with the mental and emotional abuse of her father? Check. The happy little girl then suffers a mental breakdown, and almost commits suicide at the end? Check. This wasn't just one episode by the way, it was basically the entire second half of the show:

Then there's this gem:

No blood and guts here, but it makes up for it in existential horror. Basically Silent Hill's idea of scary.

EDIT:
I was a little old for this, but it freked my siblings the fuck out.
