A cacophony of screams and laments wailed throughout the prison, accompanied by the rattling of bars, and the stamp of terrified feet. The foul, wet air was difficult to breathe, compounded by being pressed up against the grimed and sweat-covered bodies of your fellow inmates. Rain poured in, from the stairs leading to the courtyard, and through cracks in the ceilings and walls, forming pools in corners and doorways. This particular section of the prison is simply a row of cells on either side, a wall at one end and stairs at the other. This, as they say, was the end of the line. Murderers, rapists, thieves and frauds, all awaited to be sent on to the afterlife.

The screaming rose to accompany rolling thunder, as two guards stepped down off the final stair, and gave light to the dark atmosphere. Both unrecognisable by the shadows cast by their helmets, they were clearly alert, hands resting firmly on heavy iron maces. A prisoner from the cell opposite you made a wild cry and thrust his hand out through the bars, only to have it snapped by a blow from the mace. He cried in agony as he retreated to the edge of his cell, crying for his mother. The tension in the air was thick, as they whispered to eachother.

"Are you sure? They're meant to 'go' today..."

"...Handsome sum of money. Just do it..."

They spoke in heavy Czech, accented by their native Prague voices. One of them fumbled for a scroll tucked away in his armour, while the other stood vigilant guard in front of your cell. The light from the torch shone through the thin parchment, revealing the scroll was in fact a list. Their facial expressions were unrecognisable, though they looked anxious, shuffling their boots and craning their necks.

"Right!" The guard with the parchment did his best to remain in authority, though his nervous anxiety broke his voice. Gathering his strength, he started. "You are all free to go. No, only this cell! Cell 3! You are to assemble in the chapel undercroft tomorrow at 8pm. Sharp. Understood!?"

You all nod in unison as he leads you out into the pouring rain, and lines you up against the wall. Still shackled to eachother, you wait.

This RP is set in an alternate universe, circa 1670. You are in Prague, and were in prison under accusation of witchcraft. This is not, however, simply superstition. Werewolves, witches, vampires and ill folk roam the land, and are hunted relentlessly by those with the courage to do so. The townsfolk across Europe are superstitious, xenophobic, and regard outsiders with at best, passive hostility. With the population in a perpetual state of economic depression, the few individuals and those of the church are rich. Very rich.

The main religion (which will be a large part of this RP) is an off-shoot of christianity, that reveres Saints dogmatically enforces their belief. Recently, however, many have turned away from this harsh ideology, preferring instead renegade protestant meetings. Both, however, absolutely detest the existence of 'demons', and those who practice witchcraft. It is not uncommon to see priests travelling with bounty hunters, brandishing swords and crossbows, clad in leather and steel.

This RP will take place across Europe. Keeping this in mind, don't make references to historical figures, as it's best to keep things simple in that respect."

These are the approved races and sects you may choose from. If you want to add one or have a question, don't be afraid to ask. I do request, however, that everything remain subtle. No wings, no horns, no halos.

Werewolf - You shift at fullmoons, though if you become blinded by rage, you transform regardless.

Vampire - Your skin burns in the sunlight, and it becomes difficult to see. At night, however, you can slink in the shadows, and you have no reflection. You must drink blood to survive. Every three days.

Witch - Person who practices witchcraft. -.-

Harpy - Female with steel-like nails, and a forked tongue. No wings sorry. Exceptional vision.

Shapeshifter - You may have one ulterior form. Unable to change when being watched, you can keep up your shift until you eat/sleep/drink. This is a gift of Loki. You must either worship him or be a descendant of.

And last but not least - Human! Yay!

Any magic used will be subtle. You can't throw fireballs around Europe, though you can ignite torches. Subtly.

Interesting, what caused the other one to require a reboot?

Also, what about ghouls. Men twisted into emaciated creatures by feasting on the flesh of the dead and now require it for sustenance?

Too rushed on my part, not enough presence. What would your appearance be like? I like the flesh eating idea, though I don't know how much detail you'll put into the process. :D

Appearance wise, They'd just look like a very thin and sickly person. Powers would be simple, the strength of a normal man but they can scale walls and see in the night.

Are you sure you want to keep the Harpy idea? It wasn't originally ours, and the more I think of it the more it makes no sense.
Shape-shifter too is a bit strange, BUT it fits well with worshiping old gods. What I want to say here is that you can be a witch and work for demons, but you can also worship the old gods!
Freya, Odin or Zeus! You can be a zealot that rejects the christian faith and be a follower of one of the old gods. That's all I have to say about "races".
.
Name: Andrei Moshonov

Age/Gender: 37, male

Appearance (Picture = +10 points): Short brown hair and a dark left eye, his right eye socket is covered with a grey eye-patch. Behind it lies a maggot infested bloated eye which belongs to the one eyed demon, a gift which allows Andrei to see beyond men and beyond things. He wears leather boots and trousers, a belt with various tools and a couple of vials on it. He carries a large satchel he hangs from his side which is filled with various vials and bottles of different ingredients and potions. He carries around a composite short bow and a quiver of ten short arrows attached to his belt. A small knife, one end jagged and the other very sharp rests on his right hip, attached to his belt.

Race: Son of a Witch, has the eye of the one eyed demon.

Background: Born in a hut in a small village in Poland, Andrei saw his father off when he was four and never met him again. He perished in the war against the Russians. He fled with his mother and older brother from the marching armies when he was eight and headed west, avoiding Russian and Swedish troops. They stopped at the border with the Austro-Hungarian Empire, settling there and trying to lead their life peacefully.

But Andrei's mother couldn't be left alone. She was often heckled and regarded as a witch, even after she had left the lands of Poland the local populace remained the same ignorant folk. Ointments from plants became demon's gifts and herbal brews turned out to be the devil's spit. His older brother began hunting in the forest under the guidance of a local poacher, and he then taught Andrei how to hunt.

One expedition into the wild forest ended badly. Locals, enraged by the old woman's supposed contact with the devil began threatening the boys, but then decided to end it all and see if the woman could bring her sons back to life. They hunted the duo down and hit both Andrei and his brother. When Andrei's brother appeared at their mother's doorstep, he was already spent. He would die a few hours later from a loss of blood, an arrow sticking out of his stomach. He kept himself on his feet so he could return Andrei home that was injured relatively easily. He had lost his right eye and an arrow pierced his right arm, his mother quickly began to treat both of her sons.

Crying out for assistance in her time of misery, she agreed to a bargain. The life of Andrei's brother could not be spared, but Andrei could still be saved. The demon allowed his mother to borrow his eye and give it to Andrei for safekeeping, as long as his mother would give her eye to him for safekeeping. After recovering from his wounds, Andrei confronted those that killed his brothers and destroyed their lives. Answering the call of the one eyed demon, Andrei looked at him with his maggot infested, pulsating right eye and smiled. He and his mother would learn many great things from him, and with such knowledge they travelled Bohemia, peddling real magic and alchemy.

After his mother's demise, Andrei left the business of a traveling salesman and began to wander the wastes, seeking the guidance of the one eyed demon once more, the eye a reminder of his mother's debt and his gratitude to the demon.

Personality: Kind and generous, Andrei will gladly help those in need. He acts friendly and trustful, though he himself trusts no one besides himself and his dearest of friends. He is a competent salesman, even though the lack of his eye turn =s some people off of the goods he peddles.

Weapons: Short composite bow, small knife. An assortment of potions that can enhance Andrei's perception and endurance, including night vision and summoning various critters. The eye of the Demon, which allows Andrei to see certain types of evils with it.

One other skill: Working with animals - Stripping hide, cutting meat and making delicious venison cabbage soup.

Hmm, I think we'll see with harpy. If someone call pull them off, we can let them. Well done for not saying Cthulu and Old Gods in the same sentence.

Oh, and my sheet.
Name: Joseph Antony
Gender, Race: Male, Human
Age: 42
Appearance: Stands at 5 foot 10, small build with a gaunt face. Thick brown and grey hair that falls to above his eyes, with a greying goatee. His eyes are pale blue and weary, and his face has deep shadows due to lack of sleep. He wears a brown robe with a large hood, tied in the middle with robe. On his neck he wears a silver cross, with an inscription running down the length. He carries with him a longsword edged with silver, it's scabbard hidden inside his robe. His left hand is wrapped in a rosary, and his feet are adorned with light, brown boots.
Weapons: Silver edged longsword. It's hilt is wrapped in black leather strips, but other than that it's extremely plain. He fights with his sword in his right, while a continuous flow of prayers falls out of his mouth.
Back story: Born and raised in Romania, Josephs family had him raised in a Catholic Monastery with an unwavering faith in Roman Catholicism. His belief verges on extreme, and he has never accepted any substitute, scorning both protestants and non-Christians. In the eyes of the monks, he was perfect, as a student and as a catholic. They drilled knowledge of the Saints into him daily, forcing him to memorize the Patrons and love them more than his own father. He left however, at the age of 22, swearing by blood to serve God and only God. He took the sword from the monastery armory, claiming it was needed to cleanse the world of sin. The monks that opposed him fell to Josephs blade, his face devoid of emotion. Before he left, he addressee the remaining monks, cowering in the corner. If they did not have faith, they did not serve God. I will return the sword when my quest is finished. Since leaving he has requested donations from the church to fund his crusade, and has now ended up in Prague.
Personality: Quiet but blunt, he has nothing to hide, and no regrets in anything he has done. His blind faith is his solace, and he fears nothing but separation from God. Though he has a seething hatred of evil, his will is to convert all to the eyes of God, regardless of their damnation. Quick to judge others on their sins, he abides wholeheartedly by the laws laid down by his superiors.

From what I remember of the tales, It's a subtle transition over time that occurs from continuously eating human flesh, it eventually comes to the point where it's an addiction with most ghouls roaming graveyards in search of fresh corpses. Of course, I'm not sure if that would fit in with your universe or not and if it doesn't you could always retcon it into something more within the confines of the universe.

Side note: I'm not sure If I'd be able to sign up for this because I'm going to be pretty damn swamped very soon. I just had the idea pop into my head when I read the thread and figured I'd pass it along to see if you would like the idea and if It would help others.

Hey did you get rid of the Dice Mods?
.
A few problems I wanted to point out earlier :
Katana. I have a great burning hatred for that word.
Cursed weapon doesn't mean cursed person. If you simply let go of the sword you are a normal human again, unlike everyone else. This isn't pressing as it can be a nice touch to your character, but you should re-think the whole ordeal, mostly the point where you regenerate. Having a weapon bound to your soul that only has negative effects on your body when you use it means that you would try to avoid using it and only break it out when you need to save your life.
Japan was known at the time but entry to the country was a hard thing to come by. Unless you were Dutch or Portuguese traders you couldn't get in.
Swordsmanship isn't a hobby. If you were a nobleman then by god you would be thrust upon the sword and sent to a tutor if you weren't a complete twit. Yes, some would go and study music of the arts, but 1650... Not a hobby. Wining _Tournaments_ isn't bad at all, it shows you have some skills with a sword.
.
Unless you are some demi-god the katana would kill you too. Try and tweak the properties of the sword. ALSO, you would have NO IDEA how to PROPERLY use a Katana as you only learned how to you an arming sword or a long sword with a shield. Bear that in mind you won't have any skills with it and swing it around clumsily.

So i suppose my previous character can no longer exist now?

Name: Azrael
Race: Fallen Angel
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown

Appearance: Azrael looks to be nothing more than just a regular man, 6'4", with leathery wings that used to have dark feathers on them, though they are at the moment diseased from his imprisonment, though in normal circumstances he keeps them hidden under a long dark robe. He has hair black enough it has a blue-like sheen to it,he has long, elegant fingers with blood-red fingernails, not painted, but naturally that way. Azrael has what looks to be a burn scar that leads from above his left eye down to his right hip,as well as two parallel scars down his shoulder blades to his waist, the first scar gives him a bit of a half-smile appearance at all times. His eyes are the color of amber and an olive complexion and is in very good shape under normal circumstances.

Weapons: a sword cane as a backup, but his main weapon are manacles and chains, which he keeps as a belt around his robes.

Backstory: No one knows where, who, or how Azrael came to be outside of a small village twenty miles north of Prague, but one story that everyone agrees on is that he came from the sky, plummeting in a fireball into the center of town. After a decade of living among the people of the village as a scribe and kept his existence hidden from the rest of the world and tried to live a peaceful life, until people began noticing small things about him,as lights slightly flared on him coming into the room and a traveler brought this news to the church, which on hearing the news, traveled to the town and burned it to the ground, killing the townsfolk, and taking Azrael prisoner, where he has been since his capture and now release. He has little faith in the church, but still has plenty of faith in humans in general. He doesn't remember anything before his arrival in the village beyond knowing that he isn't human. He prefers lighted spaces to darkened ones and more than a two days without sunlight begins to take it's toll on him, similar to humans without food and sleep.

Skill: Scribe, bookkeeping/making

Edit: redid the sheet, tell me if you like this new one or if I need to rehash a new character

I'm sorry to say, but yes. My GM accepted you out of necessity so he could start the RP, but I know that if you don't get proper rules in the universe the game will fall apart before the week ends. You can always re-apply, good luck.

Whelp, you never posted links back to the old group, luckily I stumbled across this.

Name: Volke Nacht

Gender: Male

Race: Human/Demon

Age: 32

Now minus the scarf and add in the rapier and guns to the belt.
His teeth are all large fangs except the back four molars. His tongue comes to a sharp point. Reasons why he wears a mask.
His skin, starting from his lower back has been turning a black obsidian color. It's crept up to the back of his neck and down mid leg. It's not diseased so he's figured it's part of his condition.
Red iris, cat eye pupils.

Weapons:Two English made flintlock pistols (English proof marks filled away). Two daggers and keeping with the style of the time a double edged Rapier.

Back story: Born in Munich, The Holy Roman Empire. His mother had been possessed by a demon at the time of his conception. The demon didn't warp his body but instead darkened his soul. Volke's birth into the mortal world killed his mother and destroyed the demon possessing her. This allowed him to not be fully and eternally corrupt, though his blood was that of a demons and is caustic to all but him and hell spawned. Since his body was normal it was just thought the strain of childbirth killed his mother, the darkness within him went unnoticed. It wasn't until he was older his body began to change, starting when he lost his baby teeth and fangs grew in place. At puberty his eyes changed.

Growing up Volke was a thief and pickpocket becoming quite adept at the arts. He was self taught to fight with blades. Volke advanced deeper into the underworld, becoming a contract assassin/collection agent at 19. During this time the need to read and write became necessary and he learned the basics out of a private school, which was paid out of pocket.

In the summer of 1663 the 25th year of his life. Volke was contacted by Duke Himrich von Rolkmin of Saxony, though not personally. He was offered position as a black hand for the Duke. Essentially a personal assassin and spy. He considered the offer heavily. Concluding that the closer presence to the political elite of the Empire was in his benefit, and with the coin and perks, was an offer only a truly insane man would pass. Freelancing now in his past, Volke was moved between several countries in duty to the Duke. England, Spain, Russia. Gathering political, military and economic information to benefit the Duke some which was passed over to the Holy Empire. Some kept for his own dark purposes, netting considerable wealth.

Skill: Subterfuge (Will lie, cheat, steal, distract and otherwise do anything in his power to win or gain.

Modifiers: +2 dodge. +1 stealing

I understand you've said that the ability to shapeshift is a gift of Loki and you must either worship Loki or be descended from him to possess it but would it be possible to play a character who was tricked into accepting the power resulting in a great deal of confusion?

On another note I was wondering if a shapeshifter's human appearance and habits could also be affected by the habits of their animal form? Like a shapeshifter who transforms into a predatory animal finds themselves craving fresh raw meat while in human form?

Could I make a suggestion, could we have some (non Vamp) form of undead?
Mabye... Revenants: former soldiers who died a horrible death and thus didn't die properly. Glowing red eyes, dark grey skin, rotting, etc.

But for now, could I have a reserve as a witch?
