William smiled humourlessly, more a showing of teeth, "I have no fondness for churchmen" he said, softy, "I have come to find their creed and company more than disagreeable."

"If I had the choice, I would walk away now" he continued, "But I owe a debt now to our mysterious all, and I would have to follow that even if I did not care for the obvious power he wields"

"Pfft, when I attend that meeting tomorrow it won't be out of any sense of debt, we all die eventually, execution would only have hastened the process. No, I'm just curious about the whole thing. I haven't had much purpose in my life and I'm honestly intrigued as to what our saviour could possibly want from me. In my experience nothing much good comes from mixing with the Church," Erland paused as he thought over his words, "then again, associating with anyone these days usually leads to some form of trouble."

"Well then Mr. Arnup, we share a common ideal" Virgil said as he gave a brief smile.

"Indeed, there's are troublesome times in which we live, persecution is prevalent no matter where you look" Virgil paused as he glanced over at his companions, his gaze hovering over the both of them.

"I wish to see the person responsible for my 'freedom', I am sure it was not purely out of the kindness of their heart"

William's eyes flashed briefly as he heard this, and he barely listened to the rest of vigil's speech. When the other fell silent, he responded,

"My quarrel is not, and never has been with the Church itself, for only true a faith can guide us through these dark times. Speak ill of the clergy and I will agree, but do not blaspheme in my presence."

He give a false smile and lightened his tone in order to try to defuse the situation.

"How do you differentiate your faith then? I am curious as to what you defend so readily"
