[HEADING=2]He Who Rules the Face of Terror Rules the Earth[/HEADING]

~One Year Ago~

Ascension was a great and prosperous modern city. Even with it's high population, it was still one of the most peaceful places on earth to live with its almost nonexistent crime. This came to an end the day an earthquake hit the city. It ended up wreaking a small number of homes and businesses, but the initial damage paled in comparison to what was to come.

A few days after the earthquake, sightings of a masked figure became common around town. The man committed a series of crimes ranging from robbery, to serial killings; done all while armed with only a knife. The local law enforcement proved to be no match for the masked man, as he proved to be both impossible to catch, and just as hard to kill. Rumors were that the masked figure was from hell itself, and the earthquake was a sign of his escape.

The figure soon became know as the Face of Terror, and just as his name sake would imply, he gripped Ascension in fear. Scores of criminals began to raise up in the lawless land that the Face of Terror was beginning to create.

~3 weeks ago~

A second, unexplained earthquake hit the city. This time however, several normal human beings have stumbled across a number of masks, left alone in the streets. This masks speak out to their soon to be wearers, trying to convince them to put the masks on. When they do, they find that they're a given incredible powers, and become completely new people to accompany their new faces.

~Now~
There are so many choices. You can abuse your power as The Face of Terror has, or decide you've had enough and rid the city of him and his ilk. One thing is for certain though. The others will find you in a bid to collect all the masks of power for themselves. And you are going to be on their hit list.

Age: 29

Gender: Female

Appearance: Selina stands at about 5'8" and is about 135 lb. She is in fit condition due to her life style. She has black hair cropped short to keep it out of her face during her performances. She has hazel colored eyes. her hands and lower arms bare a few scars from accidents when she first started out on her own. She normally wears jeans and a black tank top and when on her way from one point to another has a duffel bag slung over her shoulder.

Personality: Selina prefers peace and quiet over anything, content just relaxing in one of Ascensions parks listening to the sounds of people going about their day. She can be stubborn when she sets her mind to something, but is always willing to thinks things through. However she does have a strong sense of humor and is always willing to share a tale or joke with anyone who will listen.

Skills: Slight of Hand, juggling.

Weapon: Knife

Mask Appearance: Selina's mask appears to be that of a woman laughing with red streaks coming from where the tear ducts would be. The "skin" of the mask is a pale blue, with red etchings of flames encircling the mask.

Alter-ego name: The Laughing Lady.

Alternate personality: The Laughing Lady is nearly the exact opposite of Selinda, loud and impulsive. The only thing they share is the stubbornness. the Laughing lady also has severe mood swings switching to the truly laughter filled voice Selina has to an all consuming fury to a soul crushing depression at the drop of a hat. at the worst of her moments these moods can and will co-mingle.

Power: The Mask of The Laughing Lady has given Selina the ability to control flames, natural or those she has created, while the mas is on. While off she is just as susceptible to flame has any other human.

Bio: Selina was born and raised in Ascension, happy with her life, she had everything she could ever ask for, a loving family, friends, and a decent amount of wealth. But she grew restless, she was tired of the comfort that her home offered. So, saying good bye to her parents at age 18 she began to wander the city making her way as a street performer, often juggling, dancing, singing or whatever she felt like doing that the passerby liked to watch. One of her favorite performances she learned at 22 from another performer. Fire swallowing, he taught her is dangerous and if you didn't respect the flame she would get hurt. She took this lesson to heart and practiced and slowly but surely, she was able to incorporate the seemingly living thing into many of her performances. At 28 she had become well known with the park goers often offering shows to those had chosen the day have have a picnic or family gathering asking only for a meal in return. She was welcomed with gusto, earning her meal several times over.

When the earthquake hit it almost cost her her dearly, as she had been juggling lit torches. As the days past and rumors of the Face of Terror spread and crime began to rise she became afraid for her life, often she merely slept in the parks. So she trained her self with a knife, and began renting out a room at one of the cheaper apartment buildings using the funds she had saved up, simply hoping that those she would entertain had made it home safe.

When the second earthquake hit she had been making her way to her home from a profitable day, as with the first she heard screams and cries of children but it seamed little damage had been done. A block away, she heard a feint crying coming from an ally, concerned she followed the sounds expecting to find a lost child. As she got closer the sobbing turned to snarls and growls of anger, then to laughter, but not the kind she was used too, this sounded almost desperate, a laugh that meant madness was a step away. She rounded a corner and there was no one, but the laughter grew and abruptly ended only to be replaced by a whisper. Come Performer, down here. Put me on, and let me show you how a true Master of the stage performs. The Voice said, prompting to look down and there she saw a mask. Without realizing, she picked it up, and turned it over in her hands. Three words were craved into the back of the strange mask. The Laughing Lady. The voice spoke again. That's right, me. Now just slip me on and together we can entertain the masses. There was something about the mask the pulled at Selina, something more than the voice urging her to put it on. So with a suppressed shudder Selina slid on the mask. And The Laughing Lady came to life.

In the three weeks since she became The Laughing Lady, she had worked her way into several nighttime theaters, prompting the now seedier elements of Ascension come to watch her death defying act's. And at the same time, having those who still prefer theater come to watch her plays. From time to time, there are hecklers, and in the Laughing Lady's case, her hecklers usually wind up the next morning found laying in the street burnt to a crisp. Those who thrive in the chaos the Face of Terror has created have been the most prominent in her hecklers, something she has noticed and doesn't care for. Neither Selina or The Laughing Lady have any desire to hunt him down, Selina because she knows she's not a killer, the Laughing Lady because she's far to busy with the stage. But both have sworn, should this monster cross their path, he needs to be stopped.

personality: Has been alone most of his life wants nothing more than to kill the world, loves dark places usually hangs out in old abandoned alleys of ascension.likes to be alone with his own fantasies of destruction.

power:Illusion this often translates to Niloc's constant seeing things that are not there.

Bio: Niloc came to Ascension to find a friend but repeated attempts left alone and he grew bitter. Then the earth quake happened he was in one of the small homes that were destroyed the only thing that wasn't destroyed in his home was a percussion pistol that his father left him and the cloths on his back. He left to the city and saw the face of terror and wished to join him in his killing of the innocent, but he could never ask him so he decided to steal ammunition and committing murder. the law were to busy dealing with the face of terror however the stealing left him with nothing along with the murder. eventually he came across a mask, he was never interested in masks before, but this one was calling to him begging him to where it. He eventually put on the mask and was transformed into the White Knight hero of the people. however this did not last long as he regained himself and saw the opposite of what he wanted, but he did notice the powers given to him by the mask so he kept it putting on from time to time trying to control himself while whering it. He searches for other masks to see their powers and eventually take the mask of the face of terror

Powers only work when the mask is on.

I'm not sure if I really want to join, but I'll try make a character sheet later today anyway.(I tried to make one last night, but it was after 2AM and then I ended up losing everything I had written)

My problem is the idea behind the mask. It doesn't 'take over' so much as guides, and it peels back the 'masks' people wear (IE: how you are around certain people) leaving the world to see who you really are.

so writing the wearers personality is proving tricky :/

Well I've never done one of these role plays before but it sounds really interesting so I thought I'd write a sheet up. Its not complete at the moment but will keep working on it bit by bit.

Appearance: Below average height, skinny. Pale skin, blue eyes, long black hair, no facial hair. Favors the colour black in his clothing choice and prefers comfort over style, often settling for jeans and a t shirt.

Personality: Quiet, often encapsulated in solitary thought. Kind hearted but somewhat cold towards other people unintentionally. Thinks a lot more than he acts. Very careful and cautious.

Skills: Stealth, Cunning, Good problem solving skills

Weapon: An extensive collection of knives. The skill to use them effectively he is somewhat lacking, however. Surprise attacks are preferred as his confidence for open combat isn't too solid.


Mask Appearance: Eyeless and completely pitch black. Sharp, knife like teeth are painted where the mouth should be to form a wicked, malice filled grin.

Alter-ego name: The Silence

Alternate personality: More or less the same, but with a curious lust for blood, a primal need to kill similar to hunger for food or thirst for water. This manifests itself in a similar way to a drug addiction and the need becomes stronger each time he kills. The mask also becomes increasingly harder to take off. As he sinks further into the masks clutches he gains confidence and a twisted sense of pride, while becoming more careless.

Power: Telekinesis. The ability to apply a strong invisible force to push or pull
objects within sight. Can be used to make himself levitate. Extended usage without rest is exhausting on the mind. A favourite use of this power is to make his knives whirl around his body in and send them flying towards his foes.


Bio:

Iago calmly rose into the air and the sound of his blades sliding across the ground chilled bone, but not his. These wicked pieces of steel were in flight now, whirling around his body silently in undetermined patterns. He said nothing, the display enough alone to make his intentions more than clear. Without so much of a wave of his hand he sent a raging storm of steel at his target. They didn't have a chance.
