What happened to those good old times where most racing games had a splitscreen multiplayer? I think many racers would've been better if they'd bothered to add a splitscreen mode(For example Flatout 2).
Do any of you miss that, or is it just me? And if you do what games would you like to get the splitscreen multiplayer mode?

Condolences and all that. But, dude, split-screen is still used alot. Probably by almost every gamer who doesn't have an internet connection.

I think publishers believe its a cheap way to make more people by their games. Instead it often backfires, at least Ive often decided not to buy a game because of the lack of split screen (pure, 007 quantum of solace, etc). Or its because gamers ***** about the screen being to small^^

i'm pretty sure its because of the ammount of effort required for them, its not seen as something to bother with unless the fans really really beg the devs for the sequel.

I remember seeing an article regarding SCUD racer being made for the dreamcast, SEGA somehow managed to do it four way split screen on the Dreamcast, but it wasn't turned into a full game, it was merely a tech exercise to show the power of the dreamcast. It wouldn't have made them any money after distributing the game.

Its a shame, really it is.

Split screen still exists, just it is becoming less prevalent due to more intensive graphics.

Resident Evil 5 and Left 4 Dead both have split screen, and they came out recently.

Hell, Left 4 Dead has splitscreen and online at the same time if you have a second controller.

Ok, have to admit there are some exeptions but its at least getting pretty rare to find games with splitscreens.

Split screen left?

I'm not really a big fan of it anyway, I play L4D with my brother sometimes and after playing full screen for a while it's just like...ergh. It is fun on occasion though, and what better way is there to bond than killing zombies together?

Yeah I play a lot of games with my brother on my Xbox 360. We both have PCs networked together so we can play LAN or internet though, that's our main multiplayer fix.

Saying that we're playing my Xbox more and more. Some damn fine games and no messing around installing and whatever. I wish Burnout Paradise had a straightforward splitscreen. Party Mode is good, but not quite the same.

We play Castle Crashers, Resident Evil 5, Kane & Lynch, Gears of War 2...actually there's quite a few! Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 should have a splitscreen mode I think. We both have those on the PC so haven't investigated the 360 versions, but great games to check out.

That's one of the problems with advancing graphics: games can't render in more than one or two instances. Luckily there's still Halo 3 for 4-player split-screen, even if the graphics are kinda sub-par.
yes but Halo is even worse without more than about 10 people. if only there was some way to have CPU players at the same time... oh wait, you can do that on the N64.

split screen anoys me because my eyes would wander to the other side of the screen and either crash or die

I find that these days you need the full screen to be able to race effectively. Unless it's burnout, where you intend to crash and burn it doesn't seem nearly as much fun on a small screen.

This^, you try making a 360 run most any game with for screens and you can horrible draw distances bad graphics and occasional slowdown. Even halo 3 split screen was ugly as sin.

Ah! Split screen. I remember constantly having argument with my brothers, telling them to "Stop fucking looking at my side of the screen, cheater!". I love that. It was fun. But also a rather annoying way to be cheated against. But seriously. The whole split screen argument. It's just great =D

ALso. I can't remember split screen dying? Are you from the future, dude? Can you tell me if I actually die by the age of 30?
And when will I stop working on vessels? Please hurry back with the answers!

No you only need one gold account. The other person you are playing online splitscreen with, signs in as a guest for xbox live. I think its the same system they used in Halo 3 for online splitscreen. I hope more people decide to do online splitscreen. Its a life saver, when my brother want's to play games, when I'm still getting my fix.
