The Declining Quality of Adventure Time

I feel that Adventure Time's quality is more like a roller-coaster than a straight decline. You have story arcs with good potential and some great episodes, but those are ruined plot-holes and shitty rushed episodes. This is bound to happen when it seems the writers are just making the story up as they go along. The show can survive if they straighten out the staff and get everyone on the same page.

I have liked every episode of the show except Food Chain, and the at one where LSP sends that guy to a higher dimension that we see with that stupid border around everything.

LSP is by FAR my least favorite character on the show, though lately I'm not even that fond of Finn or Jake tbh.

I'm still enjoying it a lot myself. I do want it to be more about the adventures of Finn and Jake again of course, I feel like they aren't going on crazy adventures they way they used to, Jake isn't even in the show as much anymore which hurts it a little. All that being said I still enjoy it a lot, I need to catch up since I've only seen the first few episodes in season 6 so far.

Well, I thought the Food Chain episode was the worst episode in Adventure Time history (no, I'm not exaggerating)

I thought Food Chain was crying awful, easily the worst episode in the show. When that filler song came at the end and filled the last 20% of that episode, I was done, only Adventure Time episode I've skipped.

Well, OP, I can't take you seriously if you like that Food Chain episode. I could see that episode being shown in a class room, but it was so below the bar that I nearly turned it off. It was a waste of a guest artist and it was a waste of the Magic Man.

Hell, as fucking weird as Sad Face was (Jake's tail), it still showed a smaller side of Ooo that is completely disconnected from the bigger things that Fin and Jake have to deal with. I was completely OK seeing that.
Sorry for the late reply, I probably shouldn't have started a thread when I knew I wouldn't have access to a computer in a while.

As a disclaimer for why I enjoyed Food Chain I should probably mention that I've always been a huge fan of Masaaki Yuasa as the anime he's worked on are generally the only ones I've ever considered actually good so the idea that he was going to write, direct, and storyboard an independent non-canon Adventure Time episode may have made me a tad bit biased.

I think I can mainly sum up why I liked the episode by saying that it was simply very fun to watch. It reminded me why I love 2D animation; the only limit is what you can imagine and boy there was a lot of crazy stuff being pulled off that I've never seen in a cartoon before and it was all very vibrant and fluid and again it was just a really cool episode to watch for me. Plus I thought the idea of Finn learning an educational concept like the Food Chain by literally experiencing it thanks to Magic Man was really fun to watch and made me remember just how much fun and wacky the tone of the show was in the earlier episodes.

So no I don't think it was a waste of a guest artist or an episode. I mean what were you expecting from a guest artist episode? For it to be canon with the same visual and story appeal? At least he created something much more exciting and memorable than the mundane crap that was going on in Princess Day.

I stop about the time they dropped flame princess so we can get back to PB and Fin. Now flame is just somebody that I use to know. _> <_< I'm sorry.

Yeah it still has it's ups.

I'm just sitting here waiting for more Flame Princess, or some more Fionna and Cake episodes.
I don't know how true this is, but supposedly none of the writers liked Flame Princess so as soon as Rebecca Sugar left they planned to break up Finn and FP.

Wow... Who knew Rebecca Sugar's departure from the series would be hitting THIS hard, in terms of AT's overall quality? :p

OT: The show is clearly changed into the "mundane adventures of Finn, Jake, and Co." for better or for worse, I guess... and, honestly, it doesn't bother me as much as I should be right now... We're basically at the point where despite still not knowing how events will play out in the short/long run per episode/season, we know these characters a bit TOO well that nothing could practically phases us in a "that was a great episode" kind of way[footnote]Except for "Furniture & Meat", "Something Big", "Little Brother", "Ocarina", and "Thanks for the Crabapples, Giuseppe" for me post-"Food Chain", I guess... especially their ending, yo... ;) (Sorry, "Princess Day"... except I kinda liked how that episode ended, though...)[/footnote]... Sure, not everyone has that mindset right now or will even have that mindset even when the show does have it's final season and, I'm hoping, potential TV movie/wrap-up, but honestly, at least there hasn't been a episode that has lead people to believe that it has finally "jumped the shark"... I think... *twitch*

Regardless, I'm still going to buy all of the seasons on Blu-Ray, since I still love the show and those commentary tracks are both funny and "insightful" in their own right...

Now, how about that Steven Universe? :)
Pretty much all of my favorite episodes were written by Rebecca Sugar so I think the show took a dump when she left too. And I'm having a hard time liking Steven Universe. It's okay, and it's definitely a really cool concept for a cartoon, but I feel there's a lot more they can be doing with the story. I'm also having a hard time liking any of the characters. I'm definitely going to keep watching it though.

I really enjoyed Food Chain like the OP, I felt like it was something more like an actual Adventure. So many of these new episodes just seem to be little dramas. It was good and refreshing when these dramatic episodes came out before but now theres too many, Just give me more episodes like Dungeon Train and Ill be very happy!

Yeah... I thought after Sugar left, I would never find a true emotional moment from Adventure Time ever again... (Certain moments from the Season 5 finale and Season 6 premiere came VERY close, mind you...)

Also, the only problem I have with Steven Universe is wondering when the new episodes would start popping up... since there were a few episodes so far that made me really get more invested with the world in general, almost like when I was watching Season 2 or 3 of Adventure Time for the first time... For some reason, the characters never bothered me, in terms of wanting to like them in general... (I mean, I never thought I would feel emotion from a Lion, let alone be totally fine for having some of the more interesting shit happening off-screen... for now, of course... *shrugs*)

I agree. Well, not the worst...that "Chips and Icecream" episode was worse I think...but still.

One more reason that quality is arguably subjective for the most part.
