I can see what your getting at but honestly, I can't see what the problem is. Sometimes you need a dumpster thread or two before coming up with a serious discussion topic. I made one recently because of that very reason and I got plenty of replies.

So gripe and moan if you want, my suggestion is just stay out of the "dumpster" threads if you don't like it.

I agree. I'd like to think I've been showering the forums with my sarcasm for long enough to know that this forum certainly isn't degenerating. I can always find a intellectual debate if I want to* and I seriously doubt you started them or were even in them.

*Granted that's purely hypothetical it ticks me off when people try and make me think.

The quality of the forums may be declining, but in some ways it is improving. As new members flock to this site it continues to change. We have to take the good changes with the bad changes.

I'll bother reading it when you bother with capitalization and proper use of punctuation.

On the plus side, I've now learned that you can put spoiler tags inside other spoiler tags. At least this wasn't a complete waste of time!

...for me. I'd imagine most everyone else is hosed.

I fall into that catagory. Point is, you have to be a little self-righteous to stand up for what you believe to be true, and I'd like to think I do it with awesome spelling and grammar. But I also tend to agree with the OP. However, I just lowered my standards rather than let it get to me. Like someone said earlier, don't look for intellectualism on the interwebs.

Those threads resurface every couple of days as a way to get badges. There gone by noon the next morining. If you don't like them then don't click on them and add to them. There are plenty of other threads. Besides were'nt Forums invented as a way to voice our opinons.

It's been this way for awhile, it annoys me as much as it does the OP, but I think the Escapist mods have decided to go ahead and allow a bit of monotonous, pointless threads on the grounds that they figure a popular forum is better than an intelligent one.

Just like the plight of gaming these days.

*cough* Sorry, did I just say something?

You're dealing with people from all different ways of life and all different cultures and ages, you expect pure organization and fresh amazing content everyday?

Since you graced us with your "I intended offense" here's a protip, if you don't like the topic, DON'T READ IT. No one is forcing you to read it, respond to it, or stay on this site for that matter. So either ignore the repeat topics and be happier for it, or call the rest of us stupid for having a good time.

maybe it's true that entire internet is just falling apart as it is becoming (or already has become) a mainstream media. it may be a completely biased and nostalgic view i propose here, as the internet i remember was more than mere opinions on all things unsavory.

the internet is becoming a virtual reflection of the world, and the thoughts of the average cosmopolitan.

Hurray for learning!
if you're keen on learning, then why not post something else than pure judgment of other people's thoughts? how about elaborating on how you'd want the forums to be better?

The truth is that if you think there is a problem with the forums you yourself needs to take an active role in trying to remove that problem. We've had many discussions on how the forums have changed and every time we come to the conclusion that if you want to make it better you have to start trying to make it better. Make good threads, make good posts and show that there can be more to talk about than what I call 'easy topics'.

Threads showing that there is a problem never get anything done.

True, change is always occurring everywhere, especially on these forums. Whether it's good or bad change is in the Eye of the Beholder.

Personally, I think they're fine like they are. But then, I'm not used to taking random things as personal insults, so I suspect the Escapist forums would have to become a miniature version of /b/ before I'd think anything's wrong.

And frankly, I'm happy about that.
