This may get a little heavy, so feel free to skip over this thread.
Recently I have been worrying that I may be suffering from depression. I did a little reading and found a link to this website;

http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/interactive/interactivetests/goldberg.php

as it turns out I got quite a high score.

For discussion, are you worried about depression? Have any of you ever suffered from depression, and if so how did you tackle it? Maybe you took the test and got an unexpected score?

I took the test and scored a 10, which is apparently borderline between 'very slightly depressed' and 'not depressed at all'. The only things I'm worried about right now are the exams I have after Christmas, which I'll probably do really badly in, and the current government's cuts and stupid idiotic approach to higher education. UK here, by the way.

I found it slightly amusing when I answered to the 'have you considered how to commit suicide' question. I put 'only slightly' as an answer, not because I've ever considered suicide (because I haven't), but because I've thought about ways in the past when I've been in a creative state. I tend to write really dark stories and characters, you see. And it said in my results that I'm apparently feeling suicidal and should 'get help immediately'. That made me laugh slightly, to be honest. Am I a bad person for that?

Level 50! Moderate to severe depression

I think that's a bit overblown. Yeah I do feel sad sometimes, and I have occasionally had a randomly dark thought and ended up crying for an hour or so. But I wouldn't say I'm depressed.

My answer was a tad more than I thought. According to the test, I have moderate to severe depression, scoring about a 46.
A bit far ahead, but not horribly, since depression hasn't been affecting me nearly as much lately.
So... yeah, a bit more extreme than I think I am, but it fits. Hmm...

Well well , moderate to severe depression that's bad news :(

Seriously, don't take this tests for being accurate, there are help lines i think where you can call and ask for advice. Nothing beats seeking advice from a professional counselor ^^

UK here too, and them things help nothing. I answered the same on the suicide question, I would never do it, because I wouldn't want to, but I have merely thought about it.

54? According to the test I have severe depression.

I think that is a tad bit overblowing it.

I'm fairly confident that I have experienced depression before (comorbid with a serious eating disorder). I scored 44, which seems high to me. Depression is a little broad based on how I answered. I'm pretty optimistic about life at the moment, but I do experience anhedonia to a significant degree, which I think is the reason for the high score. At any rate, I would not recommend getting too worked up about an online quiz. I'm sure there's a disclaimer, but to reiterate: always seek professional help for the most accurate diagnosis.

Edit: Never mind, I take it back:

"As a clinical symptom in depression, anhedonia rates highly in making a diagnosis of this disorder. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) describes a "lack of interest or pleasure" but these can be hard to tell apart given that people become less interested in things which do not give them pleasure. The DSM criterion of weight loss is probably related to it and many depressed people with this symptom describe a lack of enjoyment of food. People suffering from anhedonia in association with depression generally feel good in the morning and unhappy in the evenings and can portray any of the non-psychotic symptoms and signs of depression."

Still, I wouldn't rate my level of depression quite that high, at least not relatively speaking.

64! I win at depression.
Thanks Doctor Goldberg! Now I can put a number to the severe crippling depression I already knew I had.
How depressed am I? I'm 64 depressed.

57? No, that's just wrong. I am not severely depressed at all. Yes I feel crap sometimes, but everyone does, and you're not telling em everyone is depressed.

Maybe the Escapist attracts a high concentration of depressed persons. Maybe the Internet has a certain appeal to the avoidant mind. Perhaps everyone who responded to this thread is a closet hypochondriac. The possibilities are endless ;)

You have reached level 50 on the Goldberg scale.

0 - 9 Depression unlikely
10 - 17 Possibly minor depression
18 - 21 On the verge of depression
21 - 35 Minor to moderate depression
36 - 53 Moderate to severe depression
54+ Severe depression

You are having suicidal thoughts. This is a serious warning sign, and you must seek help quickly.

You have the symptoms of moderate to severe depression. The condition seems to cause serious problems in your everyday life, and you should consult your doctor immediately.

Depression is a disease like any other disease, and it can be treated very effectively. Recognising that you are suffering from depression is the first positive step. If you are depressed, you should arrange to see your doctor to talk about the illness right away. You may also want to raise the issue with your friends and family. You should look for support from these people you until you get well. Anyone can suffer from depression, and the symptoms can vary from person to person. Treatments, including medication and psychotherapy, have a very high success rate.

Yay! That made me feel so good.I don't believe I actually am that depressed I am not going to a doctor because of some internet test, that's for sure.

As for the other discussion...I have been depressed before, and yeah, it sucks. I dealt with it though. If I am in a state of depression right now, it isn't as bad as it used to be, so that's a positive, right?

This is kinda bullshit, I'm not depressed because I can't be bothered making my bed. I got "18 - 21", but that's probably only because I often think about how I would kill myself, just to entertain the thought, not because I'm going to.

Also, incoming "depressed" teenagers.

I reached level 34! Oh yeah, take that noobs!

According to this I have minor to moderate depression, just below Moderate to Severe which starts at 36. So, that's not good. I knew I was depressed. I literally just said that to myself a few minutes ago.

Still, this test doesn't seem too accurate. One of the questions was do you feel sad, depressed, or unhappy. That doesn't seem like a good question.

I'm sorry, but I literally laughed out loud when I read your comment. Which is probably a bad sign.
