Good lord, I thought some of the people I knew took a prescriptive approach to grammar but you sir. Well I not entirely sure what to say. It is certainly true that overtly obvious missuse of grammar can be infuriating however, getting riled up over something such as "there's" (when the 'correct' term would be "there are") is going a little far in my opinion.

I myself am more of a descriptivist, in esscence meaning that as long as a text can be understood it is perfectly fine. You're example of "there's" simple makes me tink of a term becoming an accepted colloquial replacement, and even though you blame the writers you seem to have neglected the idea that perhaps, just maybe, the writers were using a certain dialect or sociolect to deepen this character, and therefore provide a more acurate pattern of speech in line with the character's background.

Yes I was an Englih student, incase my wording didn't fully give it away. But I must thank you, being in Uni has provided me with few oportunities so far to sit and actually analsye a text.

Allow me to attempt to illustrate:

"Give-a-shit" (or GAS) meter:

0% - Couldn't care less.
1%-10% - Could care less.
11%-20% - Nope.
21%-30% - Don't really care.
31%-40% - Maybe, but no.
41%-50% - "Meh"
51%-60% - Interesting...
61%-70% - Interesting.
71%-80% - Cool.
81%-90% - Very cool.
91%-100% - Awesome!

Caring about pluralization of contractions? I'd measure at about 37.

I'm an English major, but I use "there's" all the time. It's slang is why. Only while speaking, though. I also use "gotta" and "wanna." Chill.

Wow, that are a pretty bad problem.

I mean, like, there is at least 6 people I know who talk like that.

Seriously though, some guys grammar mistakes are about the worst reason to get upset.

There are real problems in the world y'know.
Who the hell are you to tell him what problems are real are what aren't?

OT: Yeah I get it. English may not be my mother tongue, but I still make sure to write as correct as I can. And if you speak a language fluently, you shouldn't have to make an intentional thought about how to speak with correct grammar, or else it wouldn't be your native language.

You are not alone. Every time I read a post where there's a mistake like that, my brain screams. Reading all the sarcastic replies you've received so far has nearly driven me over the edge. If someone said 2+2=5, everyone would quickly point out how wrong that person is, but if you try to point out that someone is using grammar incorrectly, you immediately become a stuck up prick. Go figure. I thought this stuff was basic education, but I'm clearly mistaken.

Last time I checked, I'm still human.

You are perfectly correct. But...nobody cares. The point of english to convey messages and infomation from person to person. Grammatical rules are set in place so we can understand each other. If we still understand each other then there is no reason to be arguing about it. You clearly understand what that particular marine meant, EVERYONE understands what he meant, so pointing out grammatical errors is pointless.

It really doesn't matter. It really doesn't change the connotative understanding of the statement.

Arbitrary grammar rulings inhibit the efficiency of the language.

The word there's is a contraction for there is. There is is used for singular cases, like there is a watermelon. There are is used for multiple objects/things, like there are watermelons. So why the fuck does everybody get this wrong, and I am the only one to notice? I hear people use the contraction there's daily when they should have used there are, but it didn't really bother me too much until about 1:24 in the new heart of the swarm trailer. "There's too many Zerg!", shouts a space marine. And at this point, I refuse to take it any longer. I heard it in a Yahtzee video a while back, and wasn't too dissapointed, but professional writers who give their voice actors enough time to make a full sentence? That is ridiculous. So tell me, does anyone feel the same? Am I wrong with my grammar rules? (I'm certain I'm not) Do you care? Did you really read this post? Are you human?
You spelt disappointed incorrectly.

Anyway... yeah, but they are under attack at the time. It's one of the few times in life where I don't attack people for not using correct grammar.

Yeah, no.

Giving a shit about grammar doesnt show you care about the language or have a desire to be understood. It shows that people who get that bent out of shape about grammar are really lacking in their comprehension skills if they cant figure out what someone is trying to say because they neglected an apostrophe.

Honestly, it takes more asinine effort to write a small wall of text posts, than to have to read a sentence twice to double check for contextual validation.

Im sorry, this is a forum on the internet. This isnt a reputable national news organization, this isnt a doctoral thesis and if youve had any difficulty in deciphering what I have said in this post, its the nazi like rigidity of your English thats the failing, not the other way around.

I don't go on the internet to have wannabe grammar teachers tell me how to type. If you is having trouble with reading incorrect grammar, then you is gonna have to get used to it.

Nit-picky: "There's" can also be used for "there has". There's been no time.

Putting aside the above snarky joke, I don't think it's something to concern yourself about so much. Like the word "let's". It's a contraction of "let us", though makes hardly any sense. "Let's go" is very, VERY, different from "let us go" (unless you live a few hundred years ago and/or speak the same way).
