Well, it has finally happened. My xbox 360 has come down with the RRoD, I had avoided it for 2 years and my xbox has finally died. So, has anyone else had the RRoD happen to them? Does anyone know any ways to prevent this affliction? Please, share your experiences.

Edit: Do not post on this thread if you don't have anything to contribute. I do not want to hear why the PS3 is better than the 360 because I do not plan on getting one and therefore do not care.

Once. Although my current arcade is freezing a lot during games and I think a second red ring is on the horizon. It's possible to fix the RROD with the heatsink fix if your warranty is long gone, it worked for me (I managed to eek another 8 months or so out of my original console)

I've had some strange mini-PRoDs. I start my box and the lights are red, but when I restart it it's fully functional. Well, almost fully functional, if you ignore the disk scratching and occasional crash.

Sending it to repair over the weekend. Been meaning to do it for a couple of months now.

I've had my 360 for over a year and I'm the only one of my friends not to get it *touch wood*. Even if it's past its warrenty M$ might still fix it for you; they did it for my friends.
Yeah, the 3 year warranty for the rrod is a godsend. I'm getting ready to ship my 360 away at the moment...its kind of sad.

I've had three friends have this happen. They all had to send their Xboxs in to get fixed, but I'd say you obviously avoided it pretty good. The first 2 who got it, weren't very good at handling their consoles with care and the third person lasted roughly as long as you. I think so long as you treat it well enough it lats longer...

EDIT:: I forgot. One of the friend's XBox froze up during gameplay a lot and they ignored it for weeks before it finally just got the ring and died. So, you know, if your games start freezing up for no reason, don't ignore it.

Mine caught the disease but luckily for me a store clerk at an EB store in Melbourne let slip that I could buy insurance from any EB in Australia within a week. I went to my local and they denied this so I left quite annoyed. A few months later my 360 got the RRoD and I tried to return it to my local. They told me I couldn't because I hadn't bought this special insurance, then I pointed out how they denied me. This went nowhere so I went home and called Consumer Affairs and didn't file a complaint just yet. I called my local and told them I had been in contact with Consumer Affairs. Shazam! I could go into the store and get the insurance and an instant trade for a new 360 after having it for over 6 months.

I had been getting freeze ups lately when playing Saints Row 2, but I just assumed it was the disc.

Yeah, the freeze ups just seem like its the disc is scratched or dirty or something that doesn't seem like such a big deal. But it actually really is a big deal because sometimes it doesn't unfreeze and when you eject the disc, it isn't scratched or dirty, so this is definitely something that should not be ignored. Even sometimes when the disc is scratched (I know this makes no sense but hear me out) it will freeze up when it shouldn't. Just because a disc is scratched, doesn't mean it's the cause of the freeze up even if the XBox says it is. It's like with a CD player. Sometimes, the scratches aren't deep enough or whatever to affect the way the machine reads it. So, even if the scratch looks nasty or there's a smudge on the disc, you need to remember that the disc may have nothing to do with it and keep track of how often it freezes up, maybe switch out games more frequently to see if there's a change.

That is why I own a PS3, so I dont have to worry about the Red Ring Of Death and that PS3 is better than Xbox 360 anyway.

If my 360 does RROD again (and I've heard stories of it happening) I'm going to take it out to the desert and shoot it.

Never had a red ring of death problem, even though I bought it before microsoft supposedly "fixed the RROD on all new models"
