Anybody else read this series? I read the entire thing over the course of a week, I couldn't put it down.

For those unfamiliar and unwilling to google, The Dresden Filesis a book series by Jim Butcher that concerns a Wizard PI in the heart of modern-day Chicago.

Harry Dresden - Wizard
Lost items found. Paranormal investigations.
Consulting. Advice. Reasonable Rates.
No Love Potions, Endless Purses, Parties or Other Entertainment.

Just for emphasis, let me list out of context a few things that happen in the series:

Pizza-addicted faeries.
Harry getting sold on eBay.
ZOMBIE T-REX RAMPAGE.
A cult of porn-star sorceresses.
A black, Russian, atheist holy warrior with a direct line to an archangel.
Vampires that kill with sex.
Harry trying to bill God.

I absolutely love this series, and would encourage anyone to read it.

Yeah, you should totally spoiler alot of that stuff.

But I like the series alot, I just randomly bought the first book because it was only 4 bucks and got hooked.

Not a lot of discussion value here and a LOT of Spoilers...
No spoilers if you haven't read it. I knew every single one of those things going in and I didn't pick up on it until just before any of those things happened. And it's both a suggestion and discussion about the series so it has plenty of discussion.

I actually ended up reading Turn Coat (book 11) first, and got tons of spoilers (all of the ones I listed) that didn't detract at all from the reading value of the others.

OK, the only one I figured out was when he started talking about the T-rex skeleton early in Dead Beat, but other than that, none of these spoilers give you anything until they actually happen: Toot shows up in the first book and professes his love for pizza afterwards, Sanya discusses his philosophy just after we meet him, etc. but I'll add it anyway.

I've read all of them - I think they're fantastic. It was a similar situation - I picked up the first one on my Kindle after someone suggested it to me, and I read through the entire series to that point over a weekend.

I'm right about to start a campaign using the Dresden Files RPG [http://www.dresdenfilesrpg.com] rules - Trujkin, Myan, Susan, paulgruberman, and Slycne are playing. It's looking pretty good so far, we're going to start after everyone is back from E3 (and I finish writing up the campaign :p)

Can't stand Murphy. Apart from her, I love them.
I'll admit she's a bit flat, buuut (Spoiler from book 12)

Since she gets fired at the end of Changes, she seems to lighten up a bit on the last couple pages of the book, hopefully she'll become a bit less flat in the next book

The books are so much better. Here are the main differences:

Murphy is blonde in the books and named Karrin.
Storm Front (the pilot episode that turned out to be Episode 8 and book 1) is vastly condensed and different.
Bob is a spirit of knowledge rather than a ghost and has no human form, he's just a talking skull.
Harry's office and home are 2 different places.

The thing I didn't like about the series after reading the books was that:

2 of the books were directly made into 1 episode stories, when they (and a bunch of other continuing trends in the books) would be made MUCH better stretched out over a few episodes or a season

I doubt it. She'll still be a self-righteous idiot. Hopefully she'll be killed off next.

Maybe.

The only part of her that really annoys me is her reasoning for not being a Knight of the Cross. She's Catholic, likes helping people, and has USED the damn holy sword on at least 2 occasions, yet "I'm a cop" seems a weak ass rationale that she doesn't change even AFTER she's no longer a cop. It's like she's a broken record stuck on the same thought for the last few books.
