I was just thinking about some of the times in my life when I've looked most like a complete and total idiot and one particular moment sprang to mind. So in exchange for laughing at me and my moment of extreme lower-than-average common sense, I was wondering what the dumbest thing you've ever done in a game, or in gaming is?

Mine was when I owned a Gamecube and I was playing MGS: Twin Snakes. I was trying to pause the game. Pressing the start button did nothing. I checked the manual, and yes, the start button was required to pause the game. I got very annoyed and returned the game to the shop, and returned home with a brand new copy to try again. But alas! Same problem. I then took my *controller* back to the same store where I had bought my console and made them give me a new one. Still no progress, I considered taking the console back too, or just giving up and returning the game.

Which was when I read the manual a bit closer and realised I had to press start AND A.

Make me feel better Escapist.

ive sone a lot of stupid things...hmmm lets see
is the fact that i sold the Cursed Lamp in FF8 rather than use it on my first file ( i was like 8-9 back then and didnt know better)

FFX - got just outside the final boss room, saved left and did side-quests ignoring the final boss altogether until i got to the point where Tidus did 999999 nearly every hit

plenty more but those stick out as 2 of the biggest

I ran round a corner in L4D2 carnival level, by the Mustachio speed machine, saw something sitting on the ground and melee'd it.

It was a witch :(

I was eating pancakes while playing Zombie Panic and my fingers got greasy. As i was cleaning my fingers, i heard something coming towards me, i pulled out shotgun and shot twice. I killed two teammates by shooting in their heads. I was writing ''sorry'' in chat, when i saw 3 or 5 zombies coming my way, i tried to pull out shotgun, but i just wrote ''srooy33ssssss'' in chat. They were hitting me, i had 10 health left and i managed to pull out grenade. I threw the grenade and it bounced of zombies head while two more guys were coming from my behind and shooting the zombies. Of course they exploded, i got banned for a pretty long time.

I've done so many stupid things its hard to pick one out, a fun/stupid thing to do on MW2 online is to take the pin out a grenade and charge towards the enemy killing yourself and them, but usuallly i just ended killing myself and looking like a twat.

edit: oh i just remembered getting boomered in l4d2 and seeing something move at the edge of my screen so i turn to shoot it but i doesnt die so i keep shooting it and shooting it then the boomer bile cleared.... it was a survivor, sorry man

In Wow my friend and I were in Arathi basin and getting chased by 7-8 horde members. We both jumped in the river next to the farm and hid in the waterfall.... None of them noticed us.

Bought Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter for PS2 when I could've bought God of War...

Edit: Also, on Uncharted 2, I was playing multiplayer on the shangrala map (Forgot it's name) and was running across one of the bridges. When I look behind me I notice a shadow.

It couldn't possibly be a friendly I thought, so what do I do? I turn around and fire an RPG at, you guesst it, a teamate...

Time for a double welcome.

Welcome to the Escapist for both of you.

As for me, the 'dumbest' thing I ever did had to be when my teammates in a Halo 3 match were getting all up in my grill for daring to play as an elite (you know the type, team killing you and screaming racial insults into your mike) and I 'accidentally' 'missed' the guy invading our base and instead shot a bunch of fusion cores that 'in a tragic twist of fate' killed my entire team leaving me alone and then 'out of my own stupidity' happened to allow a fellow elite player on the other team 'sneak' right past me and capture the flag and was 'simply unable to catch up to him' as he captured the flag. I was 'so heartbroken' to watch my bigoty team cry about my idiocy of losing them the game and how much they whined and moaned about it, telling me this was the stupidest thing ever done in gaming.
... but was it really?

Because where I'm standing it looks like they were the idiots... not me.

Playing assassin's creed 2 about to do the assassination of the guy when your in the crowd. Sneaking through the crowd like the master assassin that i am when i come along a cart. I promptly jump onto this cart and then do a nice little dance ontop of it in a failed attempt to get off. By the time I finally jump off my dancing platform i'm surrounded by 8 guards and my assassin target is off to mexico.

when I was quite young and not great at reading things properly I was playing diddy kong racing and saw what I beleived to be the word "easier" next to my save file, I was also not so great at playing diddy kong racing so I pressed it, it said "erase".

Also in games with bad level design (force unleashed) I will try to jump towards a platform that is kinda obscured by an invisible wall, or maybe just far away. I did it in uncharted (Drake's Fortune) aswell, and I've fallen of highrise playing MW2.

The worst though is probably that I straight up suck at both Sonic (the old ones) and space invaders.
