I swear to god, if Splinter Cell Conviction focuses on combat, and there are no special goggles, I will blow up Ubisoft! They had better not try and change it! I want heat vision goggles dammit!!
Why, so you can mimic the end of that one James Bond movie?

Granted, this new Splinter Cell seems to be focused a LOT more on the combat than anything else. I mean, there's stealth, but this game looks to be all about killin dudes rather than evading them, which is always the feel I had gotten from listening to fans of the SC IP blabbering to me about it.

I know! I saw the trailer, if I want to kill people, I will play CoD. However, I want to sneak in the shadows, turn on my night vision goggles, and slit the enemies throat!!

Wow. Long.
Sadly, I did not get to hear anything about E3 on my own, since I'm practically dead to the world, but I found this thread to be rather enlightening.

The games I'm looking forward to are Assassin's Creed 2, Mass Effect 2, Left 4 Dead 2 (seeing a pattern here?), but other than that, I can't say I was too excited for much else. That's just me, though.

Hmmm... they all have the letter A somewhere in the title? I'm stumped :D

And I'm glad that I posted all the info then! You should also check out the news section now: some info wasn't mentioned in the conferences.

Meh, conferences were a bit of a let-down this time. A few interesting things, but nothing special.

Well, hopefully you'll find something to enjoy tommorow, when the Nintendo/Sony ones take place :D

Probably not. Nintendo isn't my kind of developer and I don't really know what Sony will show. But I'm not judging anything yet. =)

Question:
Do you know which developer will show Prototype, or won't they show it at the conferences?

Halo Reach: A trailer for a new Halo game coming out in 2010, based around the events of Reach? I bet people will cry FRANCHISE MILKING a lot, but since the novel it will likely be based on had a decent story, I'm not going to complain.
I'm actually very surprised by this, none of my friends have complained about that, not even the one who thought ODST was milking it. Everyone seems to be excited by having eight Spartans, I don't know about this as I haven't read the novels.

Facebook/Twitter partnership: Who cares? Gah. I've never been one for social stuff though. People who use those sites a ton might enjoy it, but it's just sort of uneeded. I'd rather use my computer to type stuff anyway.
Sir, I care about both of these very much. I regularly use Twitter and my phone is at the end of it's rope, it's screen is broken and has about one forth of the battery life as it used to. I also love Twitter, thus I see this as a great idea since I like to game and Tweet.

RUSE: A neat teaser trailer, but with no info I've got no real enthusiasm.
I'm not sure about this, but I think I read it would have up to 1 billion (1,000,000,000) polygons on screen at once. Again, but not sure about this, if it's true, it seems interesting. OXM had a good article on it, the ability to fool opponents seems pretty interesting to me.

Great write up, it was really nice of you to put all these things together for us, I put together most of the trailers in an email for my friends and that took me a long time, so I can only imagine how long it took you to do this. So thank you, I you do this for the other three day, you will get a special place in my heart.

@shapsters and scotth266

I'd kindly like to remind you that Splinter Cell, just as MGS4, deal with two heroes that while relying on a stealth/infiltration skillset are also two 100% badass killing machines who tend to find themselves in a situation where they are the world's only and BEST hope against insurmountable odds where anyone else would probably fail behind enemy lines dealing with cold-blooded psychopathic megalomaniacs who have managed to hire a menagerie of brutal and odd henchmen with unique abilities that make them walking dispensers of death.

They are going to kill people. If you want a game where you sneak around not killing people, you should wait anxiously for the next sly cooper game to hit the shelves. These games aim to be at least semi-realistic and gritty with fantastic stories (minus all the sci-fi elements in Metal Gear Solid). You're telling me in Metal gear you have never snapped a guard's neck or gotten into a fire fight where you gunned down several people before evading search teams or trying to hide bodies in inconspicuous places?

The problem is that, quite frankly, the stealth genre is tired now. Spending hours studying guard patterns and stealing from shadow to shadow relying on thermal goggles and cardboard boxes was fine back in 2002 but gamers these days demand more excitement. Why do you think they rebooted the bond franchise to be more like the Jason Bourne series? People want a little more action to balance their suspense/thriller.

Now nothing I saw made me think this was a run and gun gears of war/uncharted 3rd person style shooter... it still showed A LOT of stealth elements.. the difference is, unlike hitman and such games, the worlds are expanding with the technology, trying to give a more realistic gaming environment, which just like Assassin's Creed means making the city a living breathing thing. The same formula of walking around a building dodging cameras and being funneled down an invisible corridor just aint gonna cut it anymore. Thats why in MGS4 there was a WAR going on and I crossed more than my fair share of areas with my trigger at the ready, trying to use stealth to give me an advantage but fully expecting that when my best laid plans caught the bullet train to Poopsville, I was still capable enough to feasibly fight my way clear. In that video I saw Sam trying to sneak into a house with people around on the streets and such, jump over a wall to avoid being seen, then when things went tits up, he managed to beat off attackers, leaped out a window came around to catch an unsuspecting fool off guard, disarmed him hardcore and start asking him questions before the door opened up and he had to use him as a human shield.

That right there was stealth, action, multiple path open world goodness in a way I have never seen it before, and I'm honestly more excited about that than the little i've seen about MGS-Raiden Chronicles or whatever, not that I dont think that will be a bad game, but put the two videos side by side and Splinter Cell Conviction gets me more excited, hands down.

I wrote the majority of this as it was broadcast/streamed. So in essence, it was a post-conference live report, though when there were lulls in the presentations I'd quickly post in the thread about what was going down.

I'll continue to update this thread when the other conferences are covered: so stay tuned. The next one starts tommorow afternoon... and as soon as its over, you'll have the summary (with my thoughts attached) right here.

Glad to be of service to you. FOR THE ESCAPIST! AND FOR THE HORDE!

EDIT: Also, I was right about the franchise milking cries. Not 10 minutes later, a thread popped up with THAT IN THE TITLE.

EDIT: Out of all the conferences so far (up to Ubisoft) Microsoft's flowed the best in my mind: they knew where to stick the bits that weren't all that interesting, and had Project:Natal right behind it to drive all the bland crap out of our minds as we focused on their shiny new toy.
That's exactly my problem. They had quite a bland show without any kind of exciting news that are game related and then shushed everything away for their Natal/Milo thing which is still very unreliable at the moment.

Think about the conference for a second:
Some multiplat. like Rockband and Ride, FFXIII(not sure why they would have them in there) = Boring and rather predictable

Exclusives= Nothing new or groundbreaking. Epic's 2D game seemed nice but too small to make a dent. Halo is only interesting for Halo fans. Nice Crackdown 2 announcement but just a silly teaser. Splinter Cell and the rest were predictable and known before hand. Wake footage was rather exciting but the game isn't even coming out soon.

Some tech revelations and Facebook news (boooooring, anyone with a fucking browser has Facebook already).

And then came the humoungus beast of their new motion camera.

Nothing substantial or revolutionary, heck even interesting, in the conference from a pure gaming standpoint. The conference did a good job of holding your attention by introducing celebrities and hot translation chicks (FF awwwww yeah!) but it still remains a rather 'meh' one. More fucking gameplay, less fucking hype please!

Let's hope for some sparks from Nintendo (could easily beat this by either unveiling Mario or Zelda) and Sony (lot's of oppertunities to beat this, most of them Trico related).

I don't really know how to feel about the new Halo game. I for one understand when my favourite series has to end and while Halo has a very decent overarching storyline (despite what people say*) I think that I'm going to boycott this one. Halo stole my heart as a trilogy I believe a nice well rounded trilogy.
I still would like it if people wouldn't make a million troll threads about how they are milking a very new (relativley) franchise and ignore that Mario has been around for twenty years and there are barely any threads about how badly he is milked.

*obnoxiously trolling on self made Halo Hate threads.

MS conference:

Now that what a conference should be like. They got off on the wrong foot by having that Beatles Rock Band thing go on for too long but after that they recovered quite nicely and announced a lot of cool stuff. By the way, nothing has been said about MGSR being 36 exclusive ... I hope it isn't because that would spoil the story for the PS3 users.

EA conference:

What was cool was very cool and what was slightly less cool sucked huge assed balls.

Ubisoft conference:

Only thing good about it was Assassin's Creed 2 trailer

it looked great though, and i'm a bit curious about the gun/blade thing. i'm thinking some sort of miniature crossbow setup.
It's definatly a gun, you can hear the little explosion and you can see the muzzle flash.

Aaaaanyway, those 2 hours of waiting were so not worth it. Just came out of bed, broken. The new Splinter Cell and Redsteel 2 gameplay were very cool, but damn, I could've gone to sleep after that. But nooooo...
Hopefully Sony and Nintendo will lighten up my day. Well especially Nintendo, since I probably won't own a PS3 for a very long time. I'm especially curious what Nintendo will do to trump all the awesomeness that's come before them. Hopefully they'll finally leave that shitty period they're in.

Microsoft's conference disgusted me for all sorts of reasons.

Left 4 Dead 2 this soon made me rage, M$ paying the money to make Kojima heave MGS's finished arse out of its grave (milking, anyone?) to make a rubbish Raiden spin-off, Alan Wake looked shocking, they were stupidly arrogant throughout and that Project Natal thing will *never* work.

First off, the dollar sign does not belong in English wurdz.

Secondly, Kojima had said before the press conference that he was unwilling to abandon the Metal Gear franchise: he had plans for this is the works beforehand. As far as Microsoft getting Kojima to release it on their console as well: sure, they payed him money to do it, but I think he's doing it partly on his own volition. He likely sees this as a chance to bring his favorite work over to the 360's side of the fence while also getting a chance to see what the 360 is capable of. In other words: Kojima likely wants to develop future 360 games, and is attempting to learn 360 development with this game. He probably wants to bring his games to as many people as possible: and as long as he makes good ones, I'm all up for it.

Thirdly: How do we know it's rubbish? Are you a future man from 2018?
