So, TES Legends, the digital card game, came out on Steam and I started playing it...cause its free, I was bored, I like TES, and I had been made to play Magic with my brother and a friend the other day and was reminded I like Magic, but hate paying tons of money.

So far its alright. I mean, its a "free to play" card game, but Im enjoying the Elder Scrolls aspect of it, that it has a plot set during the war that set up the events of Skyrim's Civil War plot, and seems pretty simple to play.

One reason I dont like getting into different card games is, well, I am used to MTG, so learning new game systems is bothersome. It is certainly weird to not have Land resources, and the ability to ignore walls of creatures to directly attack the enemy player. Also no instants, which is weird for me.

I do like knowing the lore and the creatures and stuff. I really want the Divayth Fyr card.

What about the rest of you? Have you tried it yet? Do you care to? How do you feel it compares to other card games, digital or otherwise? What do you think of The Elder Scrolls aspect of it?

Apparently just PC and mobile. I cant imagine it to be a taxing game for most PCs though...its a card game.

So how does it work? Like Magic? Or the surprisingly fun little card game in Rage?
Its core gameplay is Hearthstone, but with a few minor changes, the most prominent one being that the board is split vertically into two sections and the creatures on either side can't interact with each other (unless specified by card text), which adds an extra tactical layer to the game. The two sections of the board might have different rules as well. The "default" setting is that the left side is normal, but any creature played on the right side has the equivalent of Hearthstone's Stealth for one turn.

There are other differences as well, such as players getting to draw extra cards as their health drops, to help combat rushing; the player going second gets a "bonus mana" item much like the Coin in Hearthstone, only this one can be used three times (only once per turn though). It also features 5 colours, similar to Magic, and each deck is built out of 1 or 2 colours, as opposed to Hearthstone's class system.

All in all, it feels like Hearthstone+ in terms of game mechanics, but the card variety is still in the early stages.

TESL is my main card game at the moment.

I've played Magic since Revised and the hobby has become too costly for me to play over the last several years. In addition I've grown really frustrated with the RNG associated with lands in Magic. I didn't appreciate just how many games are decided by land flood or land screw until I checked out recent PC options.

Hearthstone is great and I still play it for daily quests on a casual level. My issue with Hearthstone is its dependence on RNG card design and in some cases classes. This game was always a nice distraction but it never really felt like a magic replacement to me.

Enter TESL.

TESL find a nice balance of skill, RNG and FUN that places it between the extremes of Hearthstone and Magic at least in my opinion. For the most part, RNG in TESL is handled well but there are a few outliers (Mundus Stone and the 1 drop blue that deals 3 damage to random enemy on death).

For the most part, TESL is perfect, the cards are extremely well balanced to the point where using substitutions to popular net decks can still be viable. The game has had several examples over the months where cards previously considered to be 'okay' have been elevated to upper tier status just because they weren't being played enough to be appreciated.

I love that you can farm the crafting material daily against the A.I. This is a bit time consuming I'll admit but it guarantees a new legendary card every 4 days of play which gives a meaningful sense of progression for a free to play player.

I feel like the games major point of contention for most players will be the Prophecy mechanic. IMO this adds a tactical RNG component to the game but there are times where it is unsatisfying. I suspect this is the deal breaker some new players.

I strongly recommend checking out this game, it can't keep up with the visual polish of Hearthstone but it does a fantastic job at balancing fun, speed, skill and light RNG.

But...the cards are Elder Scrolls themed... thats five more +'s right there.

And though I never played Hearthstone...looking at screenshots, the game is unpleasant to look at. Too much visual clutter.

Can't wait for Zenimax to patent troll with the word Legends.
A game called Scrolls was being made. Scrolls is not a common word, certainly less common than "Legend(s)". And The Elder Scrolls is a fairly unique IP name.

The case against Scrolls was far less malicious than people paint it as, certainly not enough to try to stereotype Zenimax as "patent trolls". Not like they tried to copyright the word "The".

The Candy Crush was is far more egregious. I mean, had they tried for "Candy Crush" together, that makes sense, but why just "candy"?

They hit an in development Kickstarter game named Prey for the Gods before Prey got released aswell, that's enough in my book.
