This time the opposite of escapism.

Last Night I watched the documentary 'the corporation'.

BEFORE YOU WATCH THE VIDEO BE WARNED!
There are some very graphic images (some dead people, crippled children and suffering animals) but it´s worth watching. But absolutely NSFW!

It scared the shit out of me and I will definately never eat meat again.

I had to share it. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions what to do with this informations?

Start a garden. Or keep chickens for eggs if you have the space. I grow a large part of my food. Trade and barter with neighbours if you can. I get beef from a friend that's a rancher. I also keep bees to produce my own honey. So basically buy local if possible. Might be harder though if you live the city.

Try to buy local from nearby companies, and don't buy stuff that you don't absolutely need (or really want). You'll end up saving a bunch of money that would otherwise be going to various companies, and if everyone did it the world would be a much healthier place than the current consumerism mentality.

From the description alone, I don't even want to know. I'll just keep eating my chicken in blissful ignorance.

Ett: That'sa two-hour movie. Could I get a Reader's Digest version? What's the gist and sum of the movie's message?

Två: You're saying that it contains "some very graphic images." All images are graphic. "Graphic" just means "visual."

What do you expect? We live with modern conveniences, there are costs.

Think about the impact of the creation of the computer you're looking at this forum with. Not just the resourcing and manafacturing, but the long term with creating and developing that knowledge, a society that can allow such knowledge...

So many people hate on capitalism whilst sitting in mass-produced cushioned chairs, shaking their heads at screens made from resources carelessly stripped from deep in another nations backyard, built by Chinese workers who were paid a fraction of minimum wage. They gasp when they realize where their mass produced meat comes from, then gasp again when they realize they cant buy another iPad if they buy the 'humane'-ly killed meat. Then they eat mass produced meat while watching Brad and Anglinas marriage dissolve.

Mmm!!! Delish

This is the exact thought I had when I read the OP, while eating a double bacon double cheeseburger from my own damned grill. Now I can enjoy the rest of it while I sit here thinking that I'll have more of the beef and bacon since the vegans got another one not to eat it. Turns out it's a win-win situation.

Not Brangelina D: Damn you capitalism, you blew it all up!

If you don't want to eat meat then invest in some farming knowledge, just buying some seeds and planting them isn't really enough if you want to have a sustainable source of food. Know what to plant and when, what grows well in your soil and what is going to be a cost effective way to feed yourself. As someone said above, getting some chickens is an option too. You'll get a couple of eggs a week from just one chicken, so get a few and you will have a good supply of them. Maybe find some people who live near you and get together to supply different things. One person keep chickens, then swap some of the eggs for vegetables and fruit that another is growing.

Mmmm, nope, still gonna eat meat. We get our chickens slaughtered by a neighbor, I've seen the guy chop off the head and pluck it in a matter of seconds, and then we get a nice juicy bird out of the deal. I've seen what goes into what I eat, how it's done, and it doesn't bother me. As for the video, same deal. I'm not about to stop doing something because someone is trying to "scare me straight". That's also the reason why I can't stand public service announcement commercials regarding drunk driving. I know firsthand what a car crash feels like, and I don't need some sad violin music to tell me.

Advice for what to do with this information? Whatever the fuck you want, really. If you're gonna stop eating meat because of the shit that goes into making mass-produced meat then go right ahead. If you wanna start up a protest group against whatever the fuck this is? Go nuts, I ain't gonna stop ya.

Me? Well, I've got my own question to ask - have you ever had a triple meat sandwich? Do you have any idea how delicious this thing is? They can take this sandwich away from me when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.
I uh... What am I looking at, here? Are you cool? Because of something you eat?

Man, you should see our pig slaughter events. Granted, I never did, but I heard some pretty graphic descriptions.

My high school teacher (ethics, no less, the irony) described how, as a kid, he was bestowed with the duty of killing one. He jumped at it and took a stab at its throat. The pig broke free and was running around the entire yard bleeding everywhere and everyone was running after trying to stop it. All in good fun with guffaws bellowing from the onlookers (and now, most of the class). Alcohol is always involved as well, just at variable stages of the process.

Can't imagine myself actually being present at one of those.

What he is saying silly is that this information doesnt change what he is going to do/eat. He even says its OK for people to have differing opinions.

I don't get it, this documentary is about capitalism and the place of corporatism in society.
I don't understand what this has to do with meat?

Capitalism is evil.
Corporations are evil.
Watch stock footage of something.
Hear Michael Moore speak.
Have some narration with some added breaks and beats under it, it's hip.
Turn on, tune in, drop out.
Here, have some shock images.
Capitalism is evil.
Here, have some Chomsky to chew on.
Have some facts.
Be outraged.
Have some propaganda, fuck the facts.
Be outraged.
Stop enjoying yourself, you selfish thing you.
Have some lies and artistic freedom.
Have some exaggerations.
Become a transforming force.
Join our cause.
One of us.
One of us.
One of us.

Cheers! Have a good one! Go murder a capitalist! Enjoy!

Did I ask what he was saying? I was simply expressing my curiosity viz. the part of eating meat that makes him Malcolm X.

It's the part in the middle. Not that middle. The other middle. There. No. A bit earlier. There. No, you just missed it. Too bad.

From the official website:

"Four case studies, drawn from a universe of corporate activity, clearly demonstrate harm to workers, human health, animals and the biosphere. Concluding this point-by-point analysis, a disturbing diagnosis is delivered: the institutional embodiment of laissez-faire capitalism fully meets the diagnostic criteria of a "psychopath." "

...bear in mind that very little of what you see in this 'documentary' is objective or scientific in any way, shape or form. Some of the issues it 'discusses' with itself are proper issues indeed, the conclusions are... just one way of seeing things. It's somewhere between Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004) and Jud süss (1940).
